Hey! Can anyone comment on the weather in Boston for November? I've never lived anywhere outside of Cali and am terrified of the cold. 55 degree weather = boots + peacoat + scarf ??

thanks!

Yeah that is about what I wear in November in Mass. 🙂 I love layers. Always bring a raincoat or umbrella because sometimes it rains unexpectedly.

See you in November maybe! I am interviewing at the beginning of the month.

It's not that bad in November, but if you're not used to it, the Peacoat is fine. Probably don't need a scarf, and unless you're a girl, you won't need boots. If you're a girl, I don't have any personal experience for you, but I usually see girls wearing heels in November. The worst part about boston is the wind.

January - March is a different story though 🙂

It starts at 730? 🙁

Holy crap. Kind of glad I withdrew now...

Yeah....it's a little early. The first order of business is a light breakfast. I actually really liked the school, but the COL is a little scary. They do have the new medical student residence, which is a sure thing for incoming students and currently significantly cheaper than market rates. I actually wrote up a little "review"of my experience here for myself to reference later....maybe I'll post it later.

I need to learn how to layer lol! I am interviewing the beginning of the month too! Good luck!! 🙂

i've seen u post so much man, where have u gotten in? where have u gotten IIs?

Ugh I know, I post more than I should. I just can't stay away from SDN.

I've gotten into two DO schools and have three more DO invites. No MD acceptances, but I've interviewed at Loyola and Drexel. I have invites to Boston, Wright State, and Cincinnati.

It was about that temperature today and I was fine in a peacoat. Boston is windy.

But were you wearing a suit underneath?

MedPR SDN challenge: try NOT to post for the rest of the weekend. Opening odds at 50:1. Takers?

i know this process can be cruel...but congrats on the many acceptances and IIs!

Got an II today, OOS, complete 7/25. Only open interview date was this friday 10/19! Guess I'll be calling out sick from work.

Anyone have any feedback about their interview experiences? I interviewed at Tufts last week--how does BU compare?

Nice, that date wasn't available when I got the invite a few weeks ago. Earliest open was Oct 29.

Anyway, the BU interview does not start at 0730. It starts at 0800. Just re-read the email.

II, yesterday (10-15-12)

Submitted ~9/24

Sent after submitting an "in the area" letter

Good luck all

Is it possible to make it to the airport in time for a 5pm flight? Admissions said the interview day ends around 3pm.

My flight was at 6:50PM and I barely made it 🙁 . Perhaps it was because I took a cab and traffic was absolutely insane. So you may be better off taking the subway. Also, the line at the airport was very long, it took me an hour to pass security. Hopefully you will not run into as much trouble as I did.I was definitely more stressed out about transportation as opposed to the interview day (it was extremely laid back). Good luck!

Oh wow... Ok thanks for letting me know. There aren't a lot of flights out after 5pm.. Most of them have incredibly long layovers and end up being ~15 hour trips.

My flight out of Boston is at 7:00pm after my interview and now I'm scared! Do you know how long it takes the subway to get to the airport and if it's reliable? EEK

thanks!

google maps says it's a little under an hour by train.. I might not be able to get a flight later than 5 so idk what I'm going to do.

By sharing my experience I did not mean to scare you guys! But keep in mind that a cab is definitely not the best option! And hopefully the line at the airport will not be so horrible 🙂

Just keep in mind - Boston traffic during rush-hour is absolutely unreal, and Boston cabs are more expensive than, say, New York cabs.

Are the trains usually on time?

I took the T from Andrews to the airport (about 1.5 mile walk from SOM)...

once on board, took about 40 minutes total to get to airport door and a whooping $2.50

If you walk up one block to Washington St from the medical school (like a 2 minute walk), you can take the SL4 bus to south station (20 minutes), and then get off at south station and take the SL1 bus from there directly to the airport (another 20-25 minutes). Thats what I usually do when taking a flight out. Total the trip should be around 40 min-55 max if theres a lot of traffic/if its rush hour or friday. Cost would be $1.75 now I think, maybe $2.

Or you can take a taxi directly to the airport from the medical school $20-25, and takes 20 minutes at most.

Hope that helps.

Thank you. Im likely just going to take a cab. No point In saving money and grtting lost on public transit if it means missing my flight. Gonna use the train to get to my student host though

in Boston for MD/PhD interview today and tomorrow! 🙂

How was the MD/PhD interview at BU? I am interviewing this Friday and still haven't received a schedule or any information for the MD/PhD part, so I would be curious to hear your experience if you are willing to share! 🙂

I'll PM you! I have some notes written out on MDapps too

My flight is at 550PM. Will I be able to make it on time after the interview?

Call the airline to see if you can change to a later flight. That'll be pretty close.

Complete 8/7
MA resident
4.0/ 37L

2 years research
1 year paid clinical

There aren't any later flights on any airline... Well, there are, but they all have a 9hour+ layover.

Maybe you could let the office of admissions know that you have a flight then and they could accommodate your interviews --maybe let you go early?

Rejected 10/23 complete 10/3

First rejection, this one hurts a bit.

3.43GPA (significant gpa justifications) 31P

USMC combat vet + other good EC's

the small/late list grows smaller.

I called and they said everything up till 3pm is mandatory. My student host said the day usually ends around 230pm though. I think I'll be ok.I really hope it doesn't take more than 3 hours to get from BUSM to my gate.

You'll be fine. Just check in online. Don't check any bags, and take a cab to Logan. Good luck!

Ok thanks. I've been hearing that traffic is terrible. Do you think the cab will be faster than train? I don't mind paying the cab fare especially because I don't have to worry about getting lost/missing a transfer. I just don't want to get stuck in traffic and miss my flight.

Been in Boston for almost 5 years now. Traffic is typically terrible 4-6, a trip to the airport shouldnt be more than 20-25min if its not bad. The T is faster if traffic is bad and isnt complicated to get to the airport. Id go T if I were you.
