If you guys are reserving hotel rooms, don't forget to ask for discounts for students interviewing at BU. I was able to get about $40 knocked off my hotel price that way.

Of course, if more info on their student hosting program comes out.....I'm canceling my reservation. :xf:

Can you cancel a hotel reservation? I got a room at the Roundhouse, but I'd like to stay with a student of possible.

You can usually cancel hotel reservations with no penalties within 24 or 48 hours of stay.

You can always call and check.....most places just need something like 72 hours notice.

Best Western Roundhouse is within walking distance and took over $50 off my price because I was interviewing at the school. There is a Hampton inn also within walking distance.

The Best Western Roundhouse...it's a ten minute walk from the schoool, has a BU medical interview discount, and free shuttle service to/from the airport (and the school, if you want it).
 
Also, for what it's worth....I inquired about the student hosting program, and received this in reply:

" We usually do have a student host list, however the students are on summer break right now and we have not had a chance to compile it. We have taken your name down as interested in the host list and will send that out as soon as possible. We do not have any time line as to when it will be available, so please plan accordingly. Please let us know if you have any questions by sending a message through the Message Center in your secondary application."

How do you get the discount? Do you have to call them up or is there a promotional code to enter online?
 
just got the rejection via email- was complete 7/6

stats: 3.75, 32Q

Having been complete 7/5 but still not hearing back anything, I finally mustered up the courage to call admissions yesterday and ask what's up. The lady on the phone said they still haven't made a decision about my app. Do you guys (especially the current students there if they're reading this) think it would be a good idea to send an update/interest letter to get me over the edge at this point? I know it's still really early, but I'm genuinely interested in this school and don't want to regret not giving it my all in the end...I'm just scared a letter this early will backfire, especially with the sheer amount of applications they're processing..

Any thoughts?

So here's my two cents (and I'm not an expert in any manner of speaking so feel free to disregard what I say) -- to me it makes sense to send an update every month that you don't hear anything. So if you submitted on the 5th, I think now would be a fine time to send something. And then again on sept 5. I don't know if any good will come from this approach but to me it makes intuitive sense.

every month?? I think if you dont have anything spectacularly new, that may not be the best idea...

complete since 7/4 nothing... over here. but ii at u pitt, umdnj-rwj and cooper medical. also no invite at jefferson or albert einstein. kinda dumb. have no idea what these schools are up to?!?

To some extent, the medical school application process is very random. Just keep at it...it looks like you already have a good crop of interview invites!

Just call them, tell them you are interviewing at the medical school, and ask if there are any applicable discounts.

Thanks for your help! Just booked a room here. For anyone curious - the rate is about $130 with the discount (obviously will depend on when you are interviewing, etc. and when you call). Hoping I can stay with a student though and cancel with notice.

send an update every month and they'll just see you as an overly attached girlfriend. send updates only if you have done something significant
 
anyone have thoughts on an update letter after 30 days? I was complete 7/10, and I recently got a paid research position in a leukemia research lab. I just started, so I know I shouldnt mention it, but I'm starting to get worried!
 
Does BUSM have a hold system or is it pretty much "rejected" or "II" after you are completed?
 
Well in past years they had two cuts the first from 10-12k applications to 7500 (probably the 19 day mark after complete) and then to 1000 interviews (after the 30 day mark) so I don't think there were any holds. But this year it looks like their doing it differently so maybe?

I was just wondering because I have been complete since 7/11 and haven't heard anything so I am not sure what to expect since many people have been getting interviews past my date.

Hope for the best, expect the worst I guess. Motto of the process!

People have been getting rejections too, so look on the bright side! Thats what I'm trying to do at least, complete 7/06 :scared:
