Just received first rejection of cycle. Complete 8/23, 3.75 and 29 MCAT. Hurts but hopefully someone else will give me an interview.

Still haven't heard yet, but hearing all these rejections and interview invites is really sending me on an emotional rollarcoaster of anticipation 😱

Does BU do holds or are they straight interview or reject?

on hold at suny upstate
rejected from bu
things are starting poorly.😕

Rejected 3.8/33 complete 8/24 : ( First rejection... Hopefully will get some good news soon from another school!

Do you happen to know how many non-canadian internationals there are in your class? Thanks

I'm sorry, but I do not know exact numbers. I never really sat down and thought about it! I have classmates who are from all over the US and from Canada, Brazil, Columbia, Korea, etc. Perhaps this link can be helpful?

"One of the most important aspects of the BUSM experience is the diversity of students, faculty, institutions, patients, and communities we serve. Our students are all exceptionally well qualified academically, and they all bring important nonacademic contributions to the school community. Many of our students have majored outside the biological sciences and have pursued a variety of personal and professional activities. The current first year class was drawn from a pool of almost 11,000 applicants, coming by way of six pathways to the MD degree. The group includes graduates of 80 undergraduate institutions, and represents more than half the states in the US and 22 countries of origin. In aggregate the class speaks more than 30 languages and 107 students speak more than 1 language. Our current student body ranges in age from 19 to 43 years of age."

Just got the e-mail about student hosting. I'm probably going to cancel that $140 hotel reservation now.

Good idea... I'm staying an extra two days to visit Boston, so I still have to book two nights... 🙁🙄

I got an interview invite on sept 5th...3.75 GPA and 31 MCAT. lots of international non-clinical and clinical work. CA resident. Does anyone have an opinion about what other types of schools I should expect to hear from that are in the range of BUSM? I submitted all of my secondaries within a week of 8/15 and the only school I have heard from is BUSM and a few other state schools that give instate preference. Im on hold for SUNY Upstate. Im nervous! Thoughts?

TBH, its a crap shoot. There is no way to say why you got an II here, and where else you get interviews is the same crap shoot. The best thing you can do is focus on the IIs you get, and keep in communication with the schools that are on your short list.

Completed 8/24/12; Rejected 9/18/12 at 1:40am Boston Time (😵?); 3.93 Sci and A.O. GPA / 36O

I'm interviewing on 10/29 and haven't booked (or even looked) at anything yet. $140 for a hotel? Was it a nice hotel at least?

Does anyone know if BU responds to in-the-area emails? I submitted my secondary in late July, got that 30day email, and nothing since. I think my stats are pretty competitive: 40O, 4.00. I got an interview at Tufts and was hoping to save a trip across country. The problem is, I would prefer to go interview at Tufts pretty soon, like in two weeks. So if I wait for BU that means I can't book plane tickets until they potentially respond. Any advice?

Also for people who recently got an interview, what were the available days of the week/the earliest calendar day for interview?

Thanks.

Well, after looking at the hotel options I'm going to be trying out the whole student hosting thing. I honestly hate inconveniencing people, but I can't afford to pay $200+ for a hotel.

That was my exact thought until I found out one of the hotels nearby (3.6mi) costs around $89. They provide you with transportation to the medical school and the airport. You can take a look at the hotel suggestions on this link, look for Comfort Inn.

I was going to go for the student hosts but I rather be really comfortable and well rested for the interview!

That hotel is $159 online. I guess I could call for the discount, but I doubt it's going to drop down to $89.

The Best Western Roundhouse offered me like $139... I still have yet to book for the following two nights... Whoops.

When I looked online they were ~$260. Maybe I'll just make phone calls tomorrow and see what the discount is really like.

Yeah, they told me when I called. I'm planning on calling tomorrow morning to book now that I've set up a hosting night.

I already emailed one of the hosts from that googledoc. Gonna call hotels tomorrow, but wait a few days before booking it.

I booked my room this morning for Oct 4th and told them I was interviewing at the school, and the price dropped to $89 plus taxes but all the transportation is provided! You should definitely call if you feel more comfortable at a hotel 🙂

Wow! Yea I'm going to call around tomorrow. I was hoping to stay at the Hampton Inn (that's where I always stay when I travel) but they're all booked 🙁.

Looks like all the MS2 hosts that live near campus are already taken and the MS1s have an anatomy exam the day of my interview so none of them are going to be able to host.

Damn.

Hey guys! M2 here. So, for the hosting, just ask your host if they are willing to host for two nights. Explain your situation, and you may be surprised by the response. Doesn't hurt to ask!

Also, keep checking the hosting document because someone new may pop up.

Finally, just because there is an anatomy exam, it does NOT mean that every M1 is taking it. Some people may be splitting their first year so won't be taking anatomy. Some ppl may feel comfortable enough with the material that they would still host.

You never know unless you ask! Good luck!

Ok cool thanks for the advice! What does splitting first year mean?

And to add to that...is it common for students to "split" years?

I'm not a BU med student, but if you buy me dinner, you can stay with me fo free! I live very close to BUSM

I might take you up on this if I can't find a host. I'm planning on buying lunch and/or dinner for my host anyway.. if they have time.

Absolutely, if you take me up on it, just send me a PM and we can exchange contact info. Same goes for others if interested....(just don't forget the dinner 🙂)

Maybe I asked this before, but when are you interviewing?

Some people decide to/are forced to take the first year's courses over two years rather than one. Of course the reasons have to be approved by the administration, but it usually includes:
1) You're pregnant. You can't do anatomy dissections if you are pregnant. (Have to protect the baby from the fumes.) You will have to take anatomy the following year.
2) You have a really good reason. It may be academically related, financially related, personally related or professionally related. They look at each case on an individual basis.
- Perhaps a student has to work to pay for school so they need to take two years to pay for a year.
- If you fail enough classes, you may have to retake those courses the following year. If you are struggling academically, they may give you that option.
- If you have a personal crisis come up and need to take time off, you can finish your courses the following year.
- If you get some amazing professional opportunity which requires you to take a lower course-load, that could possibly be a reason. (I don't know a student with this reason, but I could see it happening.)

As for the number, I could not say definitely. If I had to throw out a number, maybe less than 10? The school will work with you to ensure you succeed. As people say, the hardest thing is to get into medical school. Once you are in, they don't want you to fail/drop-out and affect their drop-out rates

the Comfort Inn has been reported to have bedbugs- definitely not going there!

I received an email from the office of diversity saying that they "would like to have the opportunity," or something like that, to meet with me at 3:00 pm. According to the actual interview offer, the official day ends at that time. My flight out of Boston leaves at 5:45 pm, and I think if I went to this thing I would be cutting it too close.

The email makes it sound like this is an optional thing and that it might even be a group event, but I don't want to just skip out on it if it's not. Does anyone know anything about this or received this email? If I'm not going to attend, 1) is it a bad thing and 2) do I need to send an email saying so, or is this just something that everyone and their dog gets and is totally optional?

Still waiting for some love for BU!! Got a 30 day email in late August. I guess no news is better than bad news! Has anyone who has gotten a 30 day email heard back about a rejection or interview invite yet?

Hm well I got that as well and took it as an optional thing.
