Haven't you interviewed here? They do interviews in two rounds, and those interviewed in the first round who are not accepted or rejected are deferred until March.

I recognize the chances of my financial aid package (if accepted, of course) being substantial in any way are very, very small, but there's a chance--and I've come a long way to get here, so I don't want to leave behind any opportunities. My background also helps, given that some schools have support for public health students/professionals as well.

(I should note that I'm not trying to make it sound like I'm any more special or qualified than anyone else--everyone I interviewed with and everyone here seems INCREDIBLY qualified with really impressive experiences, stories, and skills, so I would guess any merit-based aid would go to many others first. I just want to keep my options as open as possible in the small chance that someone feels like I should be given some sort of grant or scholarship 😀 )

yea i got in yesterday...but im not counting on busm offering amazing FA; even the dean made it seem like it was unaffordable for most. that's the feel i got from him...and for that amount of money, the school seems subpar.

The more I think about COA, the less BU attractive gets even though it's highly respected and is in an awesome city. As badly as I want to attend, financially it would be an awful decision (barring a large aid package) and in a way I'm grateful to be deferred for now.

Deferred as well. Kind of surprised considering I've above average stats and thought the interview went pretty well, but like some of you have said I probably wouldn't matriculate to BU anyway if I got in given their poor financial aid reputation.

I was actually really impressed with the way the curriculum, experiences, and opportunities were set up, enough so that it stuck out from the other schools I've interviewed at over the years. Although I will say none of them are/were "top-ranked" schools that everyone knocks on the door to get into, my overall impression of schools in general is that the curricula from one school to the other aren't all that different despite schools attempts to convince applicants otherwise... I loved the idea of just getting students into the hospital and clinic and having them talk to patients, even if they don't have any idea what to say.

But I'm generally with you--despite the seemingly fantastic opportunities (e.g. what sounds like essentially an open door policy for research and clinical/curricular opportunities at the nearby hospitals and other medical institutions), it doesn't seem different ENOUGH to justify another $100,000-150,000 to skip out on my state school where I've built my networks of physicians, in addition to friends, family, familiar area, etc.

Looks like I might be the first one to report this, but rejected this morning via email. First rejection of the season for me.

Congrats to everyone who got in tho!!!

Accepted this morning via status email.

Congrats!

AMCAS submitted 7/2, completed secondaries around 8/15. Most of my interviews were done by the end of October. Only applied to 16 schools, tho

Question for accepted folks: after I went on the applicant status site to reserve my spot and agree to the technical standards, my status changed to something like "spot reserved; tuition deposit pending." What does that mean? Do they still have my credit card info from when I paid for the secondary and they just automatically billed me for the deposit? I don't even know how much the deposit is.

No, the deposit is due by May 15th.

Assuming you didn't miss any fine print (😉), I'm going to guess that you will get an email with further instructions.

Thanks so much! The other couple of schools that accepted me don't require deposits so I panicked for a second thinking that I did something wrong, ha.

That, in and of itself, is enough to warrant a congrats haha.

While I applied to 2x the amount of schools you did, I have something like ~10x your number of rejections. 😀

+1. Thought it was a rejection until I scrolled down. First good news on a Saturday for me!

Same, but mine turned out to be a deferral.

Yet you want to use BU to leverage financial aid. I don't get your logic. Sorry, can't resist commenting. :eyebrow:

exactly what i meant...i did nnot mean the school was unimpressive, but rather not worth the price.

A school that matches several of its students with some of the best hospitals in the US is subpar? 😕

I think hebjust meant that it's very expensive especially since it isn't a "top" school.

Most private medical schools are expensive. Plus Boston is an expensive city. All depends on financial aid, and BU usually doesnt have the best financial aid, meaning that they don't give out many scholarships or grants, and its mostly loans.

Deferred via email today :'( These next 2.5 months of waiting are going to suuuuck.

+1 the COA worried me most of BU....cost of living alone places Boston schools close to $25k over 4 years above a more affordable city.

It's an interesting dilemma for BU that seems like something they really need to address if they're interested in attracting the top candidates... I'm not a top candidate, but my state school is about $150,000 less, and we're one of the most expensive schools for residents in the nation (last I heard).

Maybe I'm wrong...

I know most private schools are expensive. I was moreso talking about the COL, which is higher in Boston that most of the other cities (at least the ones that come to mind) where the "top" schools are located.

Easily. The school I've been accepted to has very nice one bedroom apartments/townhouses within 2 miles of campus for ~$700/month. They are gated communities with pools, tennis courts, washer/dryer in each unit etc. Amazingly cheap. In Boston you can probably get a 1 bd cramped apartment for $1200.

BU just happens to be the highest ranked, and probably most prestigious/best matching school I interviewed at (maybe WF can compete, but I doubt it) and if I were to be accepted it would be hard to turn down all the opportunities BU has to offer.

I haven't been accepted to my state school, but the tuition is ~$27k and COL is low. I could live very well on $45k in loans/year.

It does make me feel better knowing that others have a big problem with COA at BU. If I am fortunate enough to get in, it will make my decision easier if they don't give me aid.

Anyone with experience know how their financial aid is, especially for people who are low-income and have economically disadvantaged status? My EFC was 0 when I filled out my FAFSA today, so I am really hoping for some help from BU!!

I filled out both FAFSA and need access today and sent it to them, so I'm sure I'll hear back soon. I am just wondering if I can get one of your opinions on financial aid in the meantime.

Thank you!

For those who have multiple acceptances and BU is the second choice...are you planning on applying for the BU financial aid? I'm not really sure what is necessary as its a long shot that ill end up going to BU but want to make sure I have a definite back up in place.

I would like to know this as well. 👍

Anyone else as excited as I am. My first acceptance to one of my top choices. Life is beautiful ain't it lol

Indeed it is! I've always wanted to live in Boston and I'm pretty sure I will matriculate. 😍

Accepted a few days ago but I will be withdrawing next week. Pricetag is not worth it IMO, and at this point I can't see myself choosing BU over my simialrly ranked state school. Hope one of you who legitimitelty likes this school gets my spot.

Same here. I would like to see if I can get accepted and potentially get some aid at BU though.

Could those accepted state stats? Thanks! Also, anyone recall how many acceptances were given out in the first round? Seems almost everyone who wasn't accepted got deferred.

I think they said about half the class gets filled in the first round.

That sux. Guess my chance of an acceptance has gone down. A lot.🙁

Not really. The majority of interviews occur in the first batch. Then some more interview and everyone deferred plus the second batch are considered for the rest of the class. So essentially you are in the same size pool of interviewees competing for the same (half of accrptances) number of spots. At least that's how I remember it being explained at the interview day.

As per Dr. Witzburg, 1/3 of total acceptances are offered in the first round. 2/3 in the second round. There is a larger applicant pool in the second round so early applicants have an equal chance as late applicants.

I wanna wish all my fellow SDN deferrees great luck! Just withdrew my acceptance...it's a good school, but the price tag doesn't beat another school I already made it to.

So hope one of u gets my spot! 👍

I thought you were going to wait for aid?

I thought you were going to wait for aid?

i figured it wasn't gonna be worth it...i mean, i did some research and it's unlikely they will give me more than 75% tuition, which another school has offered to already. so, hope u get my spot MedPR.
