Either of you care to share some specifics about your unexpected questions?

To address some questions based on my experiences, it was so very hard to read the interviewer. Such a great poker face. I got no positive feedback throughout the interview - during or after. Most of my ethical questions revolved around competencies and how I would handle situations.

Wow. I was looking at the interview feedback from yesterday, and apparently, one of the questions was why not dentistry? I can answer for why not nursing, or PA, or social work, but that is a new one. How do you go about answering that?

Yeah, that was me. I was only asked that as a follow up to me telling them that my mother was a dentist after they asked me what my parents do for a living. So if one or both of your parents are in a healthcare profession, be prepared to answer "why not that profession?" To be honest, the question kind of threw me, and I'm not sure I did a real good job of answering it. I was definitely not expecting that.

Wow, I am so glad to hear I wasn't the only one who had that experience. Your description is literally exactly the same that I had. Maybe they are told not to give any feedback, positive or negative, to the applicants? Wishful thinking? 🙁

I had decent feedback from my interviewer if they liked my answer or not but I feel like my interviewer was pretty unconventional in how he interviewed. That or he could have been being nice because he didn't like me at all either or hahah

For those of you who received interview invite or already gone to interviews, does the school send us a set interview date or do we get to choose our own? From the wordings of the email, it seems to me that we have to go to whatever date they give us.

Unfortunately they do not let you pick a date, they will assign you a date.

Just checked my application status online and my interview date is 10/10! Anyone else interviewing that day as well??

^^^ btw I'm interviewing at the Indy campus, just in case people care to know.

I just called admissions because I was assigned Oct. 10th but cannot make it that day as I have a different interview then (of all the days available they choose a day I have another interview - of course!).

Anyway, she said to wait for the "official email" with the interview date and then follow the directions in the email in order to request rescheduling.

Called today and spoke to an admissions officer. My feeling from the conversation is if you're OOS this school REALLY emphasizes strong gpa, seems to weigh strong MCATs less heavily. Ties to the state aren't enough to make up for deficiencies in academic profile, and your extracurricular stuff are not super important. FYI

This makes sense. I'm OOS (OH) with 3.4/38, and I just got my first rejection. Ah well, these things happen.

Anyone know how strict they are with the LOR writers. With my prehealth committee letter/packet I have 1 non-teacher and 2 science faculty. They ask for 1 science and 1 non though... I haven't taken a non-science class in like 1.5 years so it would tough for me to get this letter. Did everyone else have the exact letters they asked for?

Does anyone know how IU notifies applicants they've accepted? I know they will send a letter, but I wondered if they also would send an email and/or update the status on that admissions portal.

The admissions portal is new this year, so I don't know what else they'll do differently. In past years, acceptances came in thick envelopes, alternate lists came in thinner envelopes, and rejections came via email.

Just got my interview invite today, excited to go back home for a few days in the fall

Well, mine were almost all ethically based. What I didn't expect was that, with most questions, my interview didn't want me to tie my personal life to the ethical question (ie. don't talk about my family or husband in the conversation).

Specifically, I was asked about drunk physicians, DNR's, etc. Basically all the standard ethical questions.

Sounds like a problem I would like to have

Good luck!

Is the interview open file or closed file? Can someone give me some more examples of the ethical questions that they will ask? My interview is Wed and im so nervous!!

It's open but it didn't appear that my interviewers had read mine beforehand at all (maybe just the basic biographic info).

Ok thanks. & what were some of the hard questions that they asked you? Were there any that were unexpected? Also, I know there is somewhere on this website where I can find a bunch of questions that have been asked in interviews there.. I've looked at it before but now I can't find it. Do you know what I'm talking about?

I would second this, the interviewers had the application with them, but besides my MCAT/GPA and some basic info like that my parent's jobs, they didn't really talk about anything in it besides what I brought up myself in discussion. As for the SDN questions page, I went through most of them, but I didn't really get asked about a lot of the "common" ones (e.g. professionalism, some of the ethical scenarios, etc.), but I know others did, so it seems to depend a lot on your interviewer. However, I still felt that those were really good prep, even though I didn't specifically get asked a lot of them.

Sorry for thinking with my stomach here, but will lunch be provided at check-in?

There were like little snacks and stuff. Nothing substantial though so I'd eat before.

Did anybody else who intereviewed last week get an email today saying your application is eligible for review? I thought it was a little odd.

That just means that everything is in your file (app, LORs, etc.) along with your interview score, so it's ready to go before the Adcom.

What??? I didn't get one! I interviewed on 9/5!

I saw on the questions page that some people had group interviews?? Will this possibly happen to me tomorrow?

I think what happened is that people who took the survey assumed that group meant more than 2 people (e.g. 2 interviewers and 1 applicant), and since the other option is one-on-one, I can see how they might have thought this, but no, there aren't any interviews with more than one applicant at a time, although it is possible that you will have 2 interviewers (I did, but others I talked to just had one.).

ok! and is there anything that I need to bring tomorrow?

Just your confidence and maybe an umbrella if it is supposed to rain. Also, a lot of people had those black folders to keep the papers they give you in.

Got my "eligible for review" email today. I'm EDP, so only a few more weeks for me, but the wait is killer.

+1 ! A friend of mine talked to the Admissions representative on our interview day, and she said that they'd be "cutting it close" to the Oct 1st deadline. I'm guessing it's going to come pretty late during the week before the 1st.

I wanted to check again and see if anyone had heard anything about student hosting. Trying to finalize plans and it would be sweet if I didn't have to book another hotel!

+1 I am also wondering about this

Is anyone else having trouble rescheduling their interview date? They scheduled mine on the same day as another interview and then told me my rescheduled date wouldn't be until January...really?? 🙁

Regarding the letter of evaluation sheet, what if I do not have a non-science academic letter? The only non-science letter that I have is from my college coach. Does anybody know if this is acceptable?

Did anyone else who interviewed on 9/5 not receive the "eligible for review" email?
