I'm also wondering what happens if we don't meet the letter requirements. The employer letter has to be from someone who has not taught you in a course. But my employer taught me in a course.

:lame:

I emailed them and they said as long as you have two people that have taught you and one that hasn't then you are fine

Can someone talk about Indiana's (the main campus) grading system, and the amount of in-class hours for years one and two? Also, does anyone have a match list for the past one or two years?

Hey guys, I just got home from my interview day. Let me know if you have any questions about the interview! This site was really helpful to me as I was preparing, so I wanted to make sure I help others who are interviewing in the future! I posted my interview feedback, so you can check that out. If you have any specific questions, just post in this thread! The interview was extremely conversational and my interviewer was awesome! Definitely a great interview day.

Were you able to stay with a student host?

For those of us with afternoon interviews (we don't have to get there until 12:15) what time would our interview day end?

What are some of the perks/highlight of the school?

Thanks!!!!!!

I was not able to stay with a host. It seems that IUSM doesn't really do that, so I just booked a hotel. I was in the afternoon and my session ended sometime around 4:00.

As for perks/highlights, the most interesting thing to me is the multi-site preclinical training, which means you can do your first two years at a variety of places in the state. That seemed to be the most unique thing about Indiana, and they'll talk about it more during your pre-interview information session.

Anybody????

I interviewed 9/5 but still have not received the eligible email, either. I know I still have my dean's evaluation outstanding though. Have you checked the applicant portal online to make sure you are complete? They lost my first dean's evaluation, so it would be worth checking.

I interviewed in Muncie and am EDP, but that should make no difference.

I had a question about the admissions portal that I wasn't sure if anyone else had. Since I am at IUB for undergrad, I have an IU account, which I used to fill out the application on the IUPUI site, but I am unable to use that info to log into the admissions portal. My AMCAS info works fine to log in there though, but I was just wondering if anyone was actually able to use their IU account (if you have one) to log in. I know it's not a big deal, but I just thought this might mean my account wasn't linked properly to my application or something like that.

Yes, I have been complete on the portal for weeks now, but still no "eligible for review" email yet.

you interviewed 8 days ago my friend. give them a break.

i have the same questions as unhistoried. i interviewed last week and didn't get a lot of information from the session. can someone talk about the grading system, lecture hours, and patient contact?

also, where do most of the students live?

The M1 and M2 students I talked to said at the lecture-based campuses lecture time is around 25 hours per week, 19 hours per week at the block-based campuses. I believe patient contact is very limited until M3, but the M1/2 students at the Muncie campus where I interviewed said there were ample opportunities to shadow with physicians at Ball Memorial during M1/2. Grading system is honors, high pass, pass, and fail.

Mine didn't work for me either. I don't think it's a big deal. As long as your application works with your amcas stuff I think it's fine.

I didn't stay with a student host, but one of the med students I talked to told me he usually hosts students. Not sure how you'd go about getting a student host, but you could probably call the admissions office and ask.

Depends what time your interview is--everyone I talked to who was in the afternoon group had an interview at either 3 or 3:45. Mine was at 3:45 so my day ended around 4:15ish.

Perks/highlights--it's cool that you can do your first two years at a regional campus if you want to (like Neurologic said, they'll emphasize that on your interview day). They have a lot of different hospitals affiliated with IUSM, which is awesome. Also, apparently if you spend your last two years (or all 4 years) at Indy, you have some great opportunities to network with renown researchers/physicians who can help you in the future to match at residencies and stuff. I was impressed with how friendly everyone was--I think I assumed that the interview day would be uptight, but it wasn't at all. People were super cool and easy to talk to--they answered questions super candidly. I loved the whole experience!

Side note--if you can, eat a good breakfast or bring a granola bar or something to snack on because they don't provide lunch. They have snack stuff around noon, but if your interview is in the afternoon you may be too nervous to eat at that point!

I'm at another IU campus and couldn't get in with my passphrase and username, so I had to use the AMCAS portal. I don't think it matters though.

Does the medical school give preference to their undergrads? It seems from what people has posted that they give preference to people from the state.

If by "their" you mean in state students, yes. In 2011-12, 83% of the incoming class was in state and that's been a consistent trend. They don't however give preference to IU undergrads as compared to other in state undergrads.

If you know that all your stuff is in, I wouldn't worry about it. I interviewed in Muncie on 9/5 and there were only 7 of us, so our paperwork may have been processed more quickly. I'm sure Indy had a lot more apps to go through.

Can anyone still log onto the secondary application website after interview?

No, I can't either. Since I got the email that everything was ready for review, that site just gives me a "Call the admissions office for status" message when I try to log in.

Just received my official email with my interview date and time. I am 10/10 at 11:00am. Very happy that it is in the morning. Soo excited for this opportunity.

Good luck! Just received my email with the secondary link, so I am really excited as well 🙂

How long did it take them to give you your interview date after you told them your interview location preference?

I got the secondary/location email and submitted it on 8/31; got the confirmation of interview date/time this morning. More than two weeks.

I got my ii on 8/31 and so about a little over two weeks. Last week my date was posted on my status page though.

My status in the app portal changed to "under consideration." Anyone else have this?

Yeah, mine says that. I wasn't able to log in a few days ago. I'm not even sure, what did it say previously?

I know last year 47 applied for EDP and 25 were accepted according to the admissions office.

Ugh. A 50/50 shot isn't necessarily what I was hoping for! I guess we'll see in a week 😱

Under consideration here as well, and I am EDP. I feel a little better having access to that site again, hopefully it will update in advance of when we actually get the letters.

"In Process" was the previous status.

I am EDP and received an email Friday saying if my app was not complete by Monday 9/17 my decision would be delayed (my dean's eval was not in). I'm guessing this means the adcom will make decisions this week?

I think that would make sense. In order to make sure that the letters arrive by October 1st, they would have to send them out early next week, so the decision would have to be made before then.

I assumed the Oct 1 deadline meant the adcom had to have a decision made by then, not that applicants knew of the decision. I like the idea of knowing before Oct 1.

I'm not sure what the "official" rule is by the AAMC regarding that, but looking at previous year's IU application threads, it looks like EDP applicants have been consistently notified sometime in the week leading up to Oct. 1.

Last year EDP applicants knew as soon as September 26th (though I think they just called to find out). They actually started receiving letters via snail mail on the 27th.

Good god that is soon! Good luck everyone.

Would anyone mind telling me how long it took for them to send the secondary app invitation or a rejection after receiving the application receipt notification email? It's been a bit over a month, and I'm wondering if it's normal. Thanks in advance!

My application receipt email was received July 13, and I got the secondary August 3. That was early on though, and I am EDP, so it seems reasonable that it would take longer to process now that they are probably dealing with many more applications. I wouldn't worry yet.

Just called and scheduled a tour of the campus I am interested in. Excited to go check it out in a few weeks!

There were a lot of OOS candidates at the interview on 9/12. I hope this doesn't mean their OOS acceptance rate will decline substantially this year.

At the interview, I got the feeling most people wanted to stay in Indy for M1/M2. Is there a reason for this? I wen in thinking it would be better to study at the other campuses, with the smaller class sizes and greater faculty attention. Can anyone comment?

I noticed the same thing. Indy is my top choice for a bunch of reasons (I want to be involved at Riley Hospital, my brother lives in Indy, I've been at a regional campus for undergrad, etc), but I'm going to tour some of the other campuses as well. I'm guessing most people want to go to Indy because it's the main campus?

However, the med students I talked to while we were waiting seemed to suggest that we're better off going to a regional campus for M1/M2 for the reasons you listed (small class size, faculty to student ratio, etc). I guess it depends on your personal preference!

I am having my interview on 10/10. I am flying there from NYC to the Indianapolis campus. Any recommendation on hotels and ways to get to interview sites?
Also, my interview is scheduled for 3:00 pm, when can i be expected to be done? Is there a place where I can store my luggage because I am leaving on the same day...

There's a bunch of hotels right by the airport--I'd recommend the Residence Inn 🙂 Your day will probably end around 3:30-4, depending on how long the interview lasts. My interview was at 3:45 and I finished by 4:15. I don't know that there's anywhere to store your luggage, but you could probably call the admissions office and find out. I didn't see people bringing luggage, but the office can probably help you figure out what to do. The interview is pretty laid back, so have fun!

Stay at the university place hotel, 2 min walk to interview. Take carey limo from the airport to the hotel, 18$ each way, by far cheapest route. They have an agent in the ground transportation center at the airport.
