USPS doesn't deliver today; President's Day is one of their official holidays. I interviewed after 1/9/13 and am waiting for an official decision, as well, but I received an email this afternoon inviting me to IU's Second Look on April 5. We should be getting decision letters tomorrow. 🙂

Has every accepted applicant been invited to the Second Look? The email mentioned only a few dozen spots available.

I was accepted in October and haven't gotten an email about second look. Maybe its for recently accepted applicants? Comments from anyone else accepted?

Has anyone who interviewed in January had a status update on the applicant portal?

Do we really know whether the committee met on the 15th? On the email it says they meet around the 15th of every month, it doesn't have to be on that exact date. I haven't heard anything/portal hasn't changed.... waiting sucks!

Haha people with January interviews need to relax. There are still a lot of people waiting to hear from Sept and Oct. Just because the committee meets is no guarantee you will hear back. I've been waiting for months and still nothing.

From older posts it seems like this school really gives a lot of weight to MCAT and gpa. Is this true? Has anyone with high stats but below average EC's been accepted here?

Yes, that's right, they weight the MCAT most heavily.

I got the same email. I just assumed it was sent out accidentally...

I copy and pasted this off of their website about "second look."

In order to learn more about the School of Medicine and Indianapolis, the Graduate Division and Office of Multicultural Affairs host the Annual IBMG Second Look Program each April. Underrepresented minority IBMG applicants, who are accepted into the IBMG Program, return to learn more about the IUSM, IBMG program, student community, and Indianapolis.

The Graduate Division collaborates with Med School Admissions Office, to offer this program in conjunction with the Med School Second Look Program.

So despite this "Second Look" e-mail, has anyone received an actual acceptance letter in the mail?? Three different people in my graduate program received this e-mail and are under the assumption that this represents an IUSM acceptance, yet none of them had received acceptance letters via USPS. I am aware that there was no mail delivery yesterday in honor of President's Day.

The Admissions Office told me that the applicant portals have been updated since the latest round of acceptances that went out on the 15th. Has anyone had his status change to "Accepted?"

Arrrrg.... no nothing... impatient :-/

Now I have to wait a whole other month 👎

They finally marked in my portal that my academic records were received. Though I still don't have a checkmark next to my background check, even though I got a clean record back 6 weeks ago.

FYI everybody- I just found out today that they don't start selecting alternates until April, so sit tight and be patient (I know that piece of advice is hogwash...).

Seriously, I mean it with all my heart- Good luck!

Thats weird, I called them up a fews days ago and they said statuses wont change till the 22nd. Considering that no one has reported an acceptance yet I think it safe to say that you were misinformed

I don't understand why this school is so slow in updating statuses. Why can't they just email us instead of using snail mail? I'm sure it would save them money and it would stop calls from annoying premeds.

Did anyone receive the 3 emails that indicate acceptance for this round??

Not all the letters have arrived yet. I just called in to the admissions office 10 minutes ago to find out about the status of my application, and I found out I was accepted 🙂 and the letter has been sent out. My portal has not yet been updated, so you still have a chance!

Can any current students comment on whether the new dean of the SOM will have any impact on changes to the school in the future? Not sure anyone can really answer this, just curious if anyone heard anything at all regarding what if any effect a new dean will have.

I received my acceptance letter today. It was postmarked February 18 - so most people should be getting the letters within the next day or two.

My portal hasn't yet been updated, and I've only received the Second Look email so far. My Second Look invitation didn't mention anything about the IBMG program, and I'm not a URM applicant, so it must be separate from the one described above.

Good luck everyone!!

But feb 18 was pres day.. That's impossible to have it post marked then.. Well not impossible but wierd.. When did u interview?

People accepted this feb can u post when u interviewed and when u received ur letter. And whether or not ur portal status changed

Most of my Michigan friends with average numbers got rejected pre-secondary. Save your money.

I agree with this, if your are OOS for this school it seems like you really need high stats to get accepted to IU.

This is my second time interviewing here. Got rejected last year. Interviewed again in jan. any second time applicants who interviewed for a second time got accepted??? Caz I don't believe they would interview me for a second time only to reject me..

Have they announced the new dean?

I was interviewed with average numbers (below average MCAT), OOS from FL. If you like the school, I say go for it.

I was waitlisted last year, did not get in. This year I interviewed on the very first day for non EDP back in September, and I have not received a decision yet..very frustrating

I was waitlisted last year and interviewed again this year in November, accepted in the December round. I think it all depends on your particular application - for me, I really improved my MCAT, which was by far the weakest aspect of my application. I think if you had particular areas of your application which were really weak and you took steps to make improvements, that really seems to weigh heavily with them. If you are applying with virtually the same application this cycle, then I think it's much more of a toss up.

Just called the admissions office. Still under review 😡

Interviewed back in November. I'm IS, 32P MCAT, cGPA 3.4, sGPA 3.4, 6 months of clinical experience as an EMT, and excellent ecs. I can't help but think my lower GPA is hindering my application. Oh well, time to wait some more.

Anyone else applying to graduate programs as a back up? Since I didn't get an acceptance this month I'm planning on applying to one of IUSMs graduate program this week.

Just checked my portal and still under review as an OOSer. Interviewed in November. If I want to send in my transcript does anyone know the address of where to send it? Just to the general admission dept. at IU in indianapolis? Also has there been an answer as to whether or not the lottery will happen before the May 15 deadline?

Just called in as well. Still under consideration. OOS 3.75 GPA 36 MCAT. Interviewed mid Jan.

OOS
