I think the paid US News edition has acceptances. Anybody have access to that data?
The numbers I got were:
4050-4100 Applied
760-770 Interviewed
255-260 Accepted
120 Matriculated

Good luck!

Does the US News data differentiate in state vs out of state vs international? Thanks!

For the "list academic honors or awards" question: I have several awards from research posters I've presented. Should I put those down, or do research awards not count as "academic"? Either way it's all listed on my primary so it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

reaearch = academic. do it

Got an email from them today marking my application complete.

I'm in the same boat.

Primary verified on 6/29.
Hopkins secondary submitted with letters on 7/14.
Complete email received today.

Their facebook says that they won't begin to review file until late Aug? So there is no advantages to apply early?

Their fb also says acceptances are not released until late Nov, early Dec. I guess the process is delayed this year?

FYI Hopkins takes forever to complete applications (people who submitted in September were not complete until, like, Dec or Jan) so at this particular school I can see a significant advantage to applying early....

They are still going to review applications in the order they come in, which is a very long process. They are also going to note that you were proactive and applied early. It definitely does matter.

Thanks for the replies.

Do most school review applications in the order they are received? Or in batches?

Usually in order, but I have understood that you are general competing against the current batch of applicants for the upcoming interview slots. If they just don't like you, you may be rejected. If they like you but don't offer an interview you will probably be reviewed again for the next interview cycle. All schools do things a bit differently but that seems to be the general system.

I'm a first year starting at Hopkins in a couple of weeks! I would say that applying early matters, but not just for getting an interview and being accepted. I applied very late and although I was interviewed (on the last day of interviews) and accepted, the cohort of students that were accepted on or after the second look weekend. it doesn't matter in the long run, i picked to go to hopkins without attending second look... but had i applied earlier it would have been nicer to have been able to attend second look and make a decision based on that as well.

Sorry, I could probably check this myself, but is there a way to check your application status/materials received?

This is very bizarre. I am completing the secondary, and many of the questions people are talking about are not there for me, including:

4. Briefly describe your single, most rewarding experience. Feel free to refer to an experience previously described in your AMCAS application.

This space is limited to 900 characters.

5. Are there any areas of medicine that are of particular interest to you? If so, please comment.

This space is limited to 1100 characters.

6. riefly describe a situation where you had to overcome adversity; include lessons learned and how you think it will affect your career as a future physician.

This space is limited to 900 characters.

7. If applicable, describe a situation where you were not in the majority. What did you learn from this experience?

This space is limited to 1100 characters.

What is going on?

The only questions I filled out were these 5:

.List any academic honors or awards you have received since entering college. (600 characters).

I am clicking all over the place and I cannot find those questions (besides the academic honors one). Losing my mind over here!

Edit: Now I see it...I wasn't scrolling down.

Hahaha are you using a Mac with Mountain Lion by chance? The lack of scroll bars is throwing me off...

You made a great choice even if it was sight unseen 😉 Our class is pretty awesome!! See you in a few weeks!

No, but you will receive a complete email when all of your materials have been received and processed.

Agreed! Bottom line, just apply early. It can only help.

What would count as applying early...if I submitted my secondary next week, would that still be considered early?

I'm asking since I have a mishap with my letters that's causing me to have to wait till next week.

Yes if you submit next week it is still early.

I submitted second week of August, interviewed mid January, and was accepted late February. You should be ok but be prepared for a long wait, especially to get marked as complete.

Congrats to those of you who've finished your application. Some of the first-years (myself included) are beginning to move into our new homes and apartments. I'm living in the brand-new apartment complex at 929 N. Wolfe Street, 2 blocks away from the med school. It's gorgeous, and I'm loving Baltimore so far! This neighborhood has really picked up and gotten much better to live in the last few years, and I'm happy to say that I feel very comfortable and safe (this coming from someone who had heard the usual rumors about Bmore and honestly had less-than-great expectations before coming to interview).

Can't wait to meet/host some of you if/when you visit in the coming months!

Great to hear!

I'll probably get rejected pre-interview but I'll check that place out if I get the chance!

Lol just completed this entire secondary somehow during the beach volleyball final, mainly trimming previous essays. Will add this school to my amcas

Complete email received. Submitted 7/18.

Anyone else almost have a heart attack when seeing an email from Johns Hopkins in their inbox?

for those who have the secondary, do the character counts include spaces or not?
thanks!

do they screen pre-secondary? I haven't gotten one yet.

interesting...then why haven't i gotten one? lol

Some schools send their secondaries out in batches. If your AMCAS was verified later than others, you will likely get a secondary later than them as well at these schools (JHU is one of these).

I was verified on 6-20 and I've had my recs/transcript in for a long time now. I guess I'll call them Monday morning.

Does JHU ask for your transcripts in order to be complete?

Nope. I can't think if any school that wants them before you've been accepted.
