Accepted EDP: IS, c3.7, s3.9, 39. Letter came yesterday, so excited! And the best part is, they're giving us campus assignments in October! Two huge weights lifted in one letter! :soexcited:

I will let you know what went down during my application cycle:
1) Yes, I had to turn in my transcript to both AMCAS for the primary application and to the school directly.
2) I don't remember this one.
3) No, I had to have the Dean of Students send the evaluation form directly to them. This is a common request for other programs and such so they should have it ready pretty quick. My school apparently had a prewritten from that the dean would just sign if there were no issues. You just have to let them know how important it is and call back to follow up.

I know that there are a lot of redundancies in the application process (the double submission of transcripts/additional paperwork), but IU is the only medical school that did not require me to submit payment for the secondary before actually getting an interview = awesome.

As someone who recently interviewed with IU, I can try to answer some of your questions too.

1) IU only wants transcripts after fall/summer grades have come in (and also before matriculation)--they told us [at the interview] that they use transcripts when making their decision post-interview (especially with borderline applicants).

Don't worry about submitting a transcript now if you've already graduated (this was my situation) or have no new grades to report since you submitted your AMCAS app.

2) I don't think you need to send them to IU. My interviewers commented on my MCAT scores (I retook the exam and did much better the second time)--scores which they had on hand via my AMCAS app (they brought the whole 15 some page printout and had it in front of them during my interview).

If you're worried, contact the admissions office.

3) I don't know if this matters? Again, maybe contact IU's office & ask. I sent mine directly to my undergrad & they mailed it on, but if you're worried about your dean's office mailing it on time perhaps mailing it yourself after they've filled it out would be better.


I interviewed at the Indianapolis campus on 9-4, so feel free to ask me any questions about the interview itself if you're interviewing there. 🙂

Anyone else interviewing on October 2nd? Starting to feel a little nervous.
 
I want to change out one of the letters that I submitted on AMCAS to IUSM. I know there is a limit of three letters to be submitted, so does anybody know if I can just add a fourth letter on AMCAS and then choose the particular three letters I want to submit on the secondary form? I am still waiting for my AMCAS verification and haven't received the II **confused**

If you get a secondary from Indiana, it's because you're going to be interviewed, if that makes sense. You will probably get an email about Indiana receiving your app, but they'll only get back to you for a secondary if you've been invited for an interview. (The secondary is basically a letter from your school's dean, plus some other forms to fill out - no essays from what I remember.)

As to your LOR question, I'm not sure. If you get a secondary, I would call Indiana and ask. One of the secondary forms is writing what letters you want to be considered though, so you might be able to just write down the three letters you want submitted and they might ignore the other one you sent.

Anyone interviewing the 9th? I am starting to freak out a bit! I feel so unprepared.
 
Rejected on Thursday. 3.65 c/sGPA, 37 MCAT, average EC, non-URM. 🙁 OOS though so I'm not overly shocked.

Rejection always sucks but just know that it is probably ONLY because you are OOS.
 
first acceptances come out 10/15 don't they? i think that was the day the committee meets.

It is just one interview, but it is two-on-one.

It's really not that bad (at least in my experience). I had two very friendly doctors for my interview, and out of the 3 interviews I've done so far I definitely felt the most comfortable during this one & thought it went the best.

It was much more of a conversation than a q & a session, and one of my interviewers asked the majority of the questions so I didn't feel like my head was on a swivel (other than trying to talk to both of them at once when answering).

I interviewed at the Indy campus, for reference. (It's likely a different experience at the regional campuses.)
 
So I interviewed here on October 2nd at Indy and it didn't go well at all...

I don't want to go into too much detail, but there was a difficult ethical question, and the interviewer didn't seem to like my answer. Also, they asked about VERY specific scenarios which kind of caught me off guard - many questions were like "Tell us about a time when you....", and some were just so obscure that I didn't know what to say.

As for the nine competencies, you don't need to have them memorized, but you should know that most of the questions they ask you will be related to those competencies.
 
Hello everyone, I received an interview invitation today. The email requested that I indicate the location where I would prefer to have the interview. Does the location of the interview seem to make any difference in the admissions process? Does anyone have any insight about preferred locations? I am an out-of-state student from California.

It says right in the email that the location you choose for an interview does not impact which campus you attend should you be admitted.

Hey I am really sorry about this. It could have gone much better than you think. It seems like whenever interviewees feel they were drilled, things turn out better than expected.

I am surprised though because it seems like many have not reported interviews like this.

Were the scenario questions directly related to the competencies and/or your app or were they completely random?

I am worried, my interview is tomorrow.

I also interviewed on oct 2 but in front of a panel of three (very friendly)

I also did get asked very specific situational questions ("tell me about a time when...") which were tough. My advice is to tell them you need time to think and don't panic during that time but come up with something substantial. Try to figure out what they are trying to assess from you in those questions and really stress that in your answer. Just think about some times when you faced some dilemmas and keep those in the back of your mind before you go in.
 
Also got an II yesterday evening, I'm pretty pumped about it. I'm OOS 34, 3.95, 3.89, completed 9/12. I picked Gurnee being that it's closest to Chicago but I'm hoping I won't regret not seeing the Indy campus. And thanks to all previous interviewees for the advice, it should help me prepare
 
Do you mean Gary? Gurnee is in Illinois.
 
does anyone know how long it takes for you to receive an interview date after you submitted your preference? I submitted my preference on 9/11 and still haven't received an email back for an interview date. and I called to ask for an estimate for which month it could be but they told me it could happen anytime and they will just let you know 2 weeks in advance

It is strange how variable the number of interviewers there are. I also had the very specific scenario questions and it was definitely not easy to come up with a good answer on the spot. That being said, the interview overall was very stress free, besides the moments where I was trying to come up with a good story to tell.

I hope to gain some insight from the experiences of other students who have interviewed at various regional campuses versus the main campus. Does anyone think it would be faster to get an interview at a regional campus rather than the main campus? Does anyone think it would be strange for an out-of-state student to interview at a regional campus? How would the interviews be different on the various campuses? I do not know if anyone has any helpful information, but this is the type of information I am hoping to learn. with thanks and best wishes...

I'm OOS and interviewed at the Gary campus simply because it was a quicker commute from where I live in Illinois. I think the interview day is probably the same as anywhere: info session, financial aid session, and tour. I had one interview with 2 people, 45 minutes.

I interviewed at Fort Wayne. It was great. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, they fed us lunch and gave us a tour. And, there were only six interviewees present throughout the day. It's a good choice if you'd prefer to avoid the bigger crowd at Indy. I was accepted, so regional versus main campus interview location is not a major detriment. I really doubt it is a factor at all in the admissions decision.

I interviewed at Indy and it seems like they are able to give you more attention at the regional campus. For example, we were not fed lunch or given a tour like some report having happened at the regional campuses.

It would definitely not be strange for an OOSer to interview there. Some people that request Indy will be interviewing at a different campus.

It seemed like the interviews were quite similar across the board.

Haha yep that's my bad, I definitely am not going to Gurnee for my IU interview, actually had to double check that I sent them a request for the right location

About 12:45 pm-1:00 pm. Information session is optional. Congrats on the interview!
 
So I'm guessing since the Hoosiers mail, we won't be hearing for a week or so (and might not even here anyways unless we are at the top of the pile, correct?)

How long does it take to get an interview scheduled? I sent out the email with my indianapolis campus request 20 days ago and still haven't gotten a response...

i think they don't email you until two weeks before your date. that's how it was for me

I got an email scheduling my interview date (11/6) on Oct. 9. I sent out my campus request on Sep. 25, so there was a little over a 2 week delay.
