Thanks so much for the info!!

At this point I'm thinking my app didn't get reviewed at this month's committee meeting, as a letter from Indy should have reached my home by now.

Oh well, crossing my fingers for next month!

Regarding this email... it seems they're doing away with the "first" Indy lottery, so those who select Indy preference early in the cycle stand a good chance of getting Indy, right?

that's what I'm hoping!

did anyone else who is accepted get the email to rank your campuses, and if so how? I logged on like it said to but there were not any links for ranking that I saw

I got the email, but it still looks like they're doing the lottery draw for Indianapolis. There were two emails for me. One that requested I print out and send in a document with my preferences. This one had an Indianapolis lottery option separate from the regional campuses.

The other email said that it would be done through the applicant portal. I'm not so sure which is true.

Would those who have been accepted post when their online portal has been updated?? Thanks!

I got an email telling me to disregard the first email with the attachment which makes sense because the attachment said 2013 on it. Do you see anything on your portal?

mine changed today sometime.

Re: competencies for interviews - half of my interview session consisted of questions based around the competencies. By which I mean, not asking me WHAT they were, but more questions based on the topics of the competencies.

For example if one of them was professionalism, they could have asked me something about what I might do in a situation that involved ethnic clashes, or a patient asking me for advice on a controversial topic.

So in short, I didn't have to know them, the questions they asked were ones that I could have answered without knowing anything about the competencies whatsoever.

Rejected yesterday pre-interview. OOS with no Indiana ties. Complete 8/30 with a LizzyM of 72.

Yeah, I emailed and asked them about it. When did you list your campus preferences on the portal? Mine updated yesterday, but my account took until this morning to verify. Pretty stoked that this is all happening so fast!

I haven't yet because I don't see it on my portal anywhere. All my portal says is accepted with no links or anything. What do you mean by verify? And I know, I just got invited to the facebook group too!

Just got an email about my interest in the rural program asking if I would be interested in applying.....does this mean I'm in!?

So I interviewed here on October 2nd at Indy and it didn't go well at all...

I don't want to go into too much detail, but there was a difficult ethical question, and the interviewer didn't seem to like my answer. Also, they asked about VERY specific scenarios which kind of caught me off guard - many questions were like "Tell us about a time when you....", and some were just so obscure that I didn't know what to say.

As for the nine competencies, you don't need to have them memorized, but you should know that most of the questions they ask you will be related to those competencies.

😕 Wow, I feel so dumb; I don't know what the "nine competencies" are...can someone please clue me in?

Preparing for an interview I have with them in November. Never have done an interview with a medical school, and I want to make sure I am ready. Still really nervous even now, but hopefully that will subside the more I research and prepare.

I was surprised when I first got an interview offer from them. OOS and here I have been seeing a lot of pre-interview rejections to OOS applicants.

Also congrats to all of those people have been getting letters/emails of acceptance, and good luck to those that are waiting and/or have interviews soon!

did anyone else get an email about applying to the Rural Medicine Program?

Yes, I got one before I even interviewed. It's because you live in what they consider a "rural area." They screen applications for those addresses to invite applicants from rural areas to apply to the Rural Medicine program because, as I understand it, you have to have a rural background to be in the rural medicine program.

And another question: Under the "Department Information" section of the online graduate application, what is the "additional upload" used for? Is it for IUPUI's use or the applicant's use?

It says to disregard it in your "IU School of Medicine Supplemental Materials" email.

"The graduate application must be completed in order to prevent delays in application processing. Once you login or create a guest account, you will be able to complete the online application and pay your application fee. Do not upload any additional materials to this application."

Unless I completely misinterpreted that.

That's weird, because in the e-mail I got, that last sentence is not included! It's almost like they sent different versions of the e-mail...how long ago did you get this e-mail?

Did anyone get an acceptance in the mail after September 15? I feel like they did not send out acceptances this month.

Is anyone interviewing November 13? I got an interview at 930 AM. I am pretty excited, I am an URM, OOS, with ties to IU, I did a masters program there two years ago. Feeling pretty excited. I am coming from Miami! Any good tips?

A page or two ago people posted that they had received acceptance letters this month.

Did anyone else (specifically those that haven't heard about acceptances or rejections yet) get the email from IUSM about campus based webinars today?

Yup. Is this a new thing? I like the idea.

Me too! Much better than having to actually visit each one, for me at least since I'm in California (and would not know how to drive in snow...)

Best to practice early! Go to big bear some time if you live in So Cal, or go up to Tahoe if you live in Nor Cal

Haha, I should! Luckily my fiance is from Canada and is quite well accustomed to snow, so if I don't get the hang of it this winter he can take over. 🙂

I got it and no interview yet, trying to prevent myself from reading into it too much

I submitted my AMCAS in mid-august and was verified 10/4. Haven't heard a word from IU. IS student with 33 MCAT and 3.5 gpa. Has anyone else experienced similar delay with receiving secondary material?

The secondary info request is accompanied with an interview. Or at least that is what it was like for me.

I know. I'm curious though because it doesn't seem other people have had to wait a month or longer after AMCAS verification to hear any communication at all. Probably should contact them although they seemed very annoyed that I contacted them earlier in the process to verify that they received my contact information change.

Well mine took roughly a month, and you have applied later so expect a longer response because you are being compared to more applicants.

I would not contact them. They are likely working through far more applications now than they were a month or two ago, so they probably just haven't got to yours yet.

Anyone have a link where I can see recent IU residency match data? I tried a search but only found info from 2000-2002 which isn't very helpful.

I interviewed on 10/2 and am yet to hear anything back. Has anyone from around or after this time heard any news or should I expect a possible notification after the 15th of November?

Hey! I'm a reapplicant and interviewed here last cycle. I was complete last cycle by 11/15 (late, I know) and I didn't get invited for interview until the beginning of February for a February interview. It's all a waiting game!

I interviewed 9/4 and have heard absolutely nothing. I don't think they review apps by interview date--but I have no idea what their criteria is instead. They only meet once a month, too, which makes the waiting game worse.

Interview tomorrow at Terre Haute (requested Muncie). OOS, 3.87 GPA, 35 MCAT

AMCAS verified 8/15
II 10/15
Secondary submitted: 9/25

Good luck to all.

How my interviewer explained it to me was they give you a score based on your MCAT, GPA, and interview score, and perhaps even your AMCAS info. Then every month they meet and talk about a set number, perhaps 100 applicants. They will take the top 100 scores and talk about those people. They take these and either accept/reject/alternate and then stop. So it's not a true rolling admissions process. It's possible that you interview in late August, but are consistently not in the top 100 of the pile and so you don't get talked about until the new year or even later.

Interviewed at the Indianapolis campus yesterday if anyone has questions about the whole process.

Any details not outlined in the itinerary? How was the interview? ( general feel, were they out to get you or was it more like a friendly conversation) Was the interview room easy to find?

I'll join in, even though you weren't asking me. I interviewed back in September. We first met in a waiting area and conversed with each other for a while. I had a great group of easy to talk to interviewees, and we actually had a couple of med students stop by between classes to just talk to us. I thought that was neat, since they weren't ambassadors or scheduled to meet with us, they just did it on their own.

Next, we had the general presentation on the med school by the dean or some other big-name person. No biggie, just the usual stuff any school would say. Then, a panel of med students came in for a Q&A session. It was neat because they were all from different campuses (but not all of the campuses were represented).

After that was the financial aid presentation. That's when things turned a little crazy. IU did a poor job with timing, because nearly all of us had our scheduled interviews before the presentation was over. So while the guy was doing his presentation, people started to get up and leave. I felt bad and tried to stay as long as I could, but I didn't want to be late to my interview.

Most of us did not walk to the interview rooms previously, so we weren't too familiar with how far away it was. They do provide each interviewee with a map/directions to get to the rooms, and they worked fine. But if you get anxious about those kinds of things, then I suggest showing up early and doing a quick run through so you're not so stressed about getting lost. The rooms were spread out all over the med school campus, and even in the nearby hospitals.

The interview itself wasn't too stressful. I was asked some ethical questions, but they were VERY easy to answer. Nothing related to obamacare or health insurance, but that doesn't rule out your interviewer asking. Know your primary app like the back of your hand. They ask a lot of questions about it.

Also know the competencies, you can find them after some navigating on the school website. You don't have to recite them or anything, but knowing the general idea of them will help. They really stressed them during the general presentation.

There wasn't a tour, but the presentations were in different buildings, and most likely the interview will be also. Something to keep in mind for ladies wearing heels, especially if you end up rushing to find the interview location. Also, the only food provided was a small snack/cracker tray, fruit, and water. Although I've had better better interview day experiences, it wasn't terrible.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Now that I'm thinking about it, some people interviewed early in the morning, before the presentations, and some after. So if you're a morning interviewer, you probably won't have to deal with conflicting presentation times.

GJDM did a good job summarizing it for me but I'll throw in a few extra points.

1. During your information session you'll have a panel of a few med students to answer your questions. Prepare 2-3 questions you would want to ask the students. There were only 3-4 other people in my group of around 25 yesterday who actually asked anything, and the silence got a little awkward at times. Keep the discussion rolling. It last for nearly an hour.

2. Prepare for the weather. This goes for pretty much any interview. It was pouring yesterday, and there were only a couple people who brought umbrellas. You will be walking outside to different buildings throughout the day.

3. Be sociable at the beginning of the day. You're going to be in a room with other applicants and some current med students and it is noticeable when someone is reserved or unfriendly.

4. For the interview, know the competencies. Current med student told me they are required to ask you questions relating to them.

Thanks for all the information! It really helps. As for the nine competencies, what kind of questions were asked about them? I remember in previous posts a while back they said they would indirectly bring them up and ask the student to respond to situations. Obviously I don't think they will ask to recite the nine competencies... but I don't know how they will structure questions around them. If you are bound by an oath to secrecy I perfectly respect that.

Don't worry about it. The nine competencies are basically common sense in terms of educating physicians. You will be asked ethical questions/scenerios, and just answer them with a strong stance and reasoning to back up your answer. They're not looking for right/wrong, they're looking for your ability to understand a problem and give an appropriate reaction.

You were most likely not complete in time for the first meeting. It is possible you will hear back this month, but is it also just as likely that you will not be reviewed until the next meeting..or the one after that..

Were all Oct. 15th decisions acceptances? Just curious if they are holding out on rejections and such.
