Don't lose hope! I got an II this morning (complete Nov 15).

Also, question: now that I have to choose a date to interview out of the few that are available, does it matter with respect to admissions chances what date I choose? Does choosing an earlier date give me a better chance post-interview? Tough situation because for me the latest available date is the one that works the best.. (although the difference between the first and last available date is only 10 days).

They told us during my interview that some applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, but a large amount are accepted on a non-rolling basis. I know on sdn it appears like more people are accepted outright than deferred until march but I think that's just selection bias. Or they lied to us during our interview D:

One of the questions I got was "what superpower would you want to have?". Also, the director of admissions acted like their curriculum was soooo unique and special and that only certain students would be able to succeed under it. On top of that, the current med students were bashing other medical schools, something that I hadn't seen during other interview days at other schools. Too much pretentiousness over there. I'm really sorry you had this experience. I would hope that most of our student body is not that way and in my experience I've never felt any pretentiousness or heard school bashing from our class--but clearly there are those out there. If the tour guides were acting inappropriately in any way I would honestly email the admissions office and inform them of how poor the day was (they will take it very seriously).

I also think the director of admissions is more trying to emphasize that the new curriculum isn't for everybody. Some people succeed much better under a more lecture based curriculum and vise versa. He really just wants you to decide if the teaching style is personally suited to your learning style.

And yes, the panel interview was dumb.

The tour guides were really nice as well those who ate lunch with us. It was just some students who would stop by the admissions office while applicants had downtime in between interviews.

Not sure, but last year, they sent pre-interview rejections in mid-January and a few people reported getting IIs about a week or two before that.

I received an II this morning (yay!) after being marked complete in late November. It also sounds like some people received invites last week, so it seems that they are continuing to send them. Considering that my application came very close to their deadline, I wouldn't be surprised if their next "phase" of invites is to review some applications a second time. There were 5 dates in January, and the last one I could see was for February 3rd. Hope this helps clarify!

Probably a dumb question, but when you wrote the update letter, was there a specific format you used? As in was it just a word document addressed to the admissions committee?

I actualyy just included the update in the body of the email! nothing fancy at a... short sweet and to the point 🙂
 
I absolutely loved this school. I've never felt such a connection to a school before. If I get in, I'm going no questions. The area, the students, the curriculum and all the public health-ness of it all was just so appealing. The torturous wait begins... 😵
 
does anyone have any insight as to when northwestern's last interview date is?

Has anyone received any further contact from Feinberg (apart from those Feinberg 411 newsletters)? Specifically, has anyone heard anything about financial aid?
 
Thanks. I have looked at this page in the past but it's not very good about providing a timeline of when we'll hear about packages. (For instance, would merit awards be given out before or after they look at FAFSA?)

yeah I don't think they've sent out any info regarding scholarships; my guess is that they'll wait until March when they accept a lot more people and have a better view of the potential class. All we can do now is complete the FAFSA and hope for the best.
 
What % of those deferred tend to get accepted? I'm trying to see if my chances here are over

They said that most students are deferred and will be accepted/rejected later. I believe their overall acceptance rate of interviewees is higher than other schools. Apparently its 70% (that's the number floating around SDN). They told us 50% at the interview. That's higher than the 15-30% you get at most schools.
 
I submitted my secondary on 9/9/13 and I have not heard back yet 🙁 Is there still any hope in getting an interview?
 
Hi guys, been lurking around for some time and had a burning question -- i recently had an interview and was wondering when to submit a letter of interest as it was my top choice. Should it be after I hear back from them, or can I submit one like next week?

Also, can I dedicate some space in the LOI to a lump thankyou-like note for 4 interviewers? Would it reflect badly?

They give you your interviewer's emails on the interview page for thank you letters.
 
Hi guys, was anyone who interviewed here recently given a date for second look? I interviewed a while ago and they just told me it would be around the third week of April. I'm just wondering if they have a date yet. thanks!

I really think their curriculum is quite unique. First of all, it's the only fully integrated curriculum I've seen. It's systems based but you also learn pathological function within the same block rather learning it in year two. Also, you have clinical education integrated within that curriculum - you see a mock patient and then a patient with either your preceptor or in the ECMH that is related to whatever organ system you're learning about. That's extremely unique. I heard one of my hosts talking about his ECMH experience that day on the phone with his mom and he really enjoyed it. Finally, the integration of public health and a possible MPH into the curriculum is another really unique aspect. This is the only school I've seen that requires their students to profile a community's public health. That's excellent, and coming from a PH perspective, being able to understand the public health needs of the community you serve as a physician is quite useful. They also require each student to complete a research project, which is another unique aspect of the curriculum. All in all, I would say that their curriculum really isn't for everyone; to me, it's geared to those students who learn well by placing things into experiential context, who need to see the "big picture" to understand/remember the details, and who see public health as essential to their medical education.

The director of admissions was awesome; he was a really nice and down-to-earth guy, IMO. The panel interview was kind of weird though. I feel like it should have been more collaborative/the interviewees should have been given more of an opportunity to interact with each other, but most of the time, it seemed like indiv. interviews but with three of us together.
 
Anyone heard back yet? Waiting for this one is killing me. And it's only been two weeks.

I'd love to send an LOI, but I don't really have any updates. :\

I interviewed first week of Dec and still haven't heard back... what happened to 4-6 weeks?
 
Just as an update for those who are curious, I was at Northwestern this week and here's what I can say. They try to make decisions about applicants by ~6 weeks after their interviews. However, they are a bit behind right now (might explain why Dec. interviewees have yet to hear). They are continuing to interview until sometime between Feb. 10-20th, but I can't remember when exactly, and all decisions should be released by March 1st. Of course, this may all change.

Thanks! It's nice to at least have some idea of the wait time. Basically, I'll know in march lol.

If I remember from last year's thread it was the first Thursday in March. Might be different this year though, who knows.
