2013-2014 Texas A&M Application Thread

Alright!!! I'm finally under review 🙂

How is the grading system here? Also how is the schedule? I can't find it on their website.

Grading system is letter grades. Not sure about the schedule

That's what I figured. Woohoo! Now I don't feel as crappy about not preparing that much for my Thursday interview.

Everyone has their own list of things they prioritize. As dumb as it may sound, Pass/Fail is on the top of my list, no questions. I'm sick of the competitive environment, damn it!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you are still ranked at a pass fail school.

Yup, only few p/f schools don't rank. Pre clinical grades don't really matter that much though so it's not a big deal

I clearly don't know anything about anything 👍

This is true, but there are some true P/F schools that dont rank internally either... which makes your clerkship grades even more important.

Personally I want to go to a school that has multiple choice tests.

Hmmm this should be interesting

I saw someone post about a dinner for 7/31 before the 8/1 interview... Was this for the College Station interviewers or the Temple people? I never got this e-mail, but I'm bummed if I'm missing a mixer/dinner!

Just drove by the new school. It is basically three giant buildings out in the middle of nowhere, but it's only a few miles to the main A&M campus. Looks nice! 😀

I am interviewing in college station tomorrow and never got anything about a dinner. I also just passed by the school and it is very impressive. Hope to meet some of you tomorrow. Good luck guys!

Let us know how it goes!

And maybe some of the questions they ask 😀

Good luck today! Relax, take a deep breath, you got this!

See you at the student panel....

(PS. It is a graded school 😎 - no changes to pass/fail in the future and we rank but don't know our rank till second year)

I didn't run the 100 miles from DFW to Temple fast enough and missed the interview...

Actually, I was very impressed by the faculty and administration. This was a very low-stress interview and the Temple campus was great!

chillbo baggins and hook em were legit. it was great meeting you guys!

interview was super chill. no stress

A&M was super organized. They put a lot of time, effort, and staff resources into the interview day, and both of my interviewers had thoroughly reviewed my file. My interview was mostly conversational, and I didn't have any hardball questions. The questions were very specific to my personal experiences and not generic.

There was breakfast and lunch (provided by the Army recruiter), and a charter bus took us to tour the gross anatomy lab and St. Joseph, which is beautiful. Definitely bring flats to change into. There is a lot of walking, and almost all the girls brought comfy shoes for the tours. It was a very long interview day, but they gave us a lot of information, and I walked away feeling like I knew what the school was all about.

Hope this helps! It was fun!

Glad you guys enjoyed it! We loved having you!

Anyone got a student host for 8/15 interview yet?
For those that have already gone to the interview, did yall have a social night before?

Yes, we had a social at the Temple campus. I found the social to be very worth my time being able to talk to the students about A&M and Scott and White hospital. 1st, 2nd and 4th years were all at our social.

Anyone have a social invite for college station campus for tomorrow's interview?

There's no social event in C/S...I'll ask Filo about it for future interviews if you think it would be worth while?

I think so. I'm literally walking around outside of the medical professions building because I have nothing else to do lol

For those of you interviewing on the Temple campus, when were you notified about the social?

My interview is in a week and I still haven't gotten any notification about student host or a social night. 🙁

Anyone else having trouble accessing BAMF? I've been trying to submit my secondaries all weekend but have yet to be able to load the page.

Yeah dawg!

Something I learned: apparently I'm the only person to say TMDSAS as TMD-sass and USMLE as you-simile.

You are incorrect, sir.
I say TMD-sass (although I have never heard anybody else say it yet).
You-simile is a new one though. I think I will call is U-smile, make it sound less threatening.
I will worry about that if and when I get into med school 😛

This is a little off topic but I'm an OSS with strong ties to the state of Texas (lived in Texas for a few years, did one year of undergrad at Texas A&M, and have a lot of family and friends in the state), but didn't find a good place to put all this info on TMDSAS. I found out later that some people included this type of information in one of the optional essays, but since I already submitted it's too late for me to do that. Would it be a bad idea to send a letter of strong ties directly to the school?

There are several essays on the A&M secondary. You could probably work them in there, assuming you haven't sent that in yet. It's definitely worth noting, especially being OOS.

Thank you, folks.

Pescado, :highfive:

Y'all are probably next!

Sass, Yeah I checked BAMF and its under the outstanding assignments. It still says I am under review though and I didnt receive an e-mail.

Cool cool. Awesome, Gandalf, you're gonna crush it.
