2013-2014 Tulane University Application Thread

Did you get two e-mails? I just replied to the one inviting me for an interview, but did NOT receive any confirmation today. Oh Tulane...🙄

Well the email the ii was sent from is different than the contact info at the bottom of the message. I'll probably just reply to the one it came from

Has anyone gotten a confirmation email yet after they confirmed their interview date?

Has anyone gotten a confirmation email yet after they confirmed their interview date?

Last year I received a response to my confirmation about one week after I accepted the interview invite. If I remember correctly, the invitation e-mail itself says to not expect an immediate response due to the high volume of e-mails being sent right now-- have no fear!

I got a confirmation.

Completed: 7/11
II received: 8/13
II confirmed: 8/19
Interview: 9/16

34/3.6

Rejected today. It's ok though. I got an interview to my #1 today also. Good luck to everyone.

I was complete on 8/1 and still...nothing. This whole process is like a bad dating experience. Tulane, I like you, do you like me? Call me, please? lol

I did get a confirmation on monday, which was 5 days after I sent in my confirmation email. Also, this is the first school that has come through with a student host for the interview.

When you confirmed your interview, did you guys reply to the invitation email or create a separate email titled to Tulane SOM?

Hi folks. I received an II today for a date on which I have a conflict. Their email states that interviews cannot be rescheduled. Has anyone had any luck rescheduling Tulane interviews in the past? Any idea if they are at all flexible with this? Thanks!

When were you complete?

I had to reschedule another interview because of this. Their wording in the ii made it seem like it's a take it or leave it kind of deal.

KenThePreMed, I just got II for 10/28 today too! so exciting!

Did you guys send a separate email confirming your attendance or just click reply to the original invitation email?

If by "in the past" you mean the 2012 cycle, then yes I moved an interview from early January to late January 2012 by calling them. They wanted to know why, and the excuse that I already had two other interviews that week was good enough.

Tulane only interviews on Mondays and Fridays, so have a list of available dates ready, be extra sweet n polite to Susanna (if she still runs the phone lines) and let us know how it works out.

II for 10/18 yesterday! Very excited to get back to NOLA!

Does anyone have any idea what is entailed with the "role-play scenario" for Tulane's interview?

(Also, II on 8/29 for October 11, secondary complete 7/19)

I am an interviewer at Tulane and I barely know what is going on here. I believe it has something to do with interviewing a Standardized Patient. We aren't asking you to diagnose anything of course; it's more like seeing if you can encounter a vulnerable stranger and not be a sociopath.

This scenario will be among med students, not faculty, and we were in your shoes not so long ago. We're nice. It's all good.

I replied directly to the email, but changed the subject of it to "Confirm Interview". In the ii email they ask you to change the subject to something like this, probably to make their lives easier with so many emails!

I replied to the invitation email but I didn't change the subject line info because I didn't know we could do that.. Do you guys think this cause them to not notice my reply? It's been 5 days since I responded but Labor Day weekend took up 3 of those days so idk..

I confirmed in the subject line but I haven't received a response either so I'm guessing they're behind with the holiday. I think you will be fine.

Rejected. oos 33/3.8; submitted 8/3

Good luck to everyone else!

How do we check our status after the secondary is submitted?

Rejected. Submitted early August. Didn't really wanna go here but still.

When were you guys complete?

I received the II last Thursday and replied at that time but I still haven't received their confirmation email yet.. anyone else in similar situation? I'm thinking about calling them

I received my ii confirmation yesterday, September 6, which was 8 days after I accepted the interview but only 4 business days. The email states it may take all the way up to one week before your interview to get confirmation, so as long as you have a record that you actually sent it (that would be a nightmare if you hadn't!), I would say you're good.

I recieved my II on September 5th. For those who are interested I submitted my primary 2 minutes after AMCAS opened and was verified two weeks after by July. I submitted my Secondary to Tulane I believe 06/02.

I have a question for those who might know:
I am really interested in clinic/community healthcare. I know that Tulane emphasizes this, but even for non MD/MPH students, what specifically does Tulane SOM offer which provides opportunities to engage the New Orleans community and/or public health side of medicine?

Thanks for any help in advance.

As a follow up to my earlier question, I have read a lot about different teaching styles at Tulane, and a lot of these sources contradict eachother on the teaching methods at this school. Is problem based learning an emphasis? How about group focused problem solving?

And for any current student, what is something you've gained from Tulane school of medicine which you couldn't have gained at any other medical school?

Mardi Gras, Saints games, a thriving cocktail scene, a parade twice a week. You can study whatever new Bullshyt Learning style at the other 119 medical schools too. You go to Tulane for the opportunities outside the highly regulated LCME accredited classroom.

We're all gonna be doctors, no matter where we go. It's all good. Tulane people just have a lot more fun while we're doing it.

+1

In addition to everything mentioned above, a giant seller for me was the community that you get to learn to practice medicine within. The population is incredibly diverse, and you'll be given the chance to do and see things that you might not be able to in other parts of the country. The school also has a huge focus on working within the unique community of New Orleans and making yourself apart of this great city. As with most other med schools, I'm sure, the faculty truly does want each and every student to succeed in every way possible. It isn't competitive and the people in my class are not only helpful and hardworking, but a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with.

I interviewed and was accepted to other schools, but no where else stole my heart like Tulane and the city of New Orleans. This place is pretty great.

So US news rankings came out today and Tulane is still unranked... I'm disappointed. Can anyone explain why? I feel like they have fairly rigorous MCAT/GPA requirements that would be cause for a ranking...
