2014-2015 Boston University Application Thread

Well, I guess I am in good company! I underestimated how hard it would be to wait to hear ANYTHING from ANY school after getting all my secondaries in by late July!

Had a bad feeling once I saw all the earlier rejections... I've come to a similar fate! Too bad, I would've loved Boston. Guess there's still some hope with Tufts! Good luck everyone else still in the running!

would you mind sharing when you were complete?
all the best!

Rejected... I thought BU would be my best shot. Now what

Rejected... 🙁 oh well hope I get to visit boston sometime this cycle!

I would assume that those are the things they are looking for

Rejected just now. Sad, but not too disappointed.

Rejected just now. Complete 7/21, LizzyM ~75. So much for my "we would have been rejected by now" theory... At least the email was nice.

Just got the axe as well, although I will admit this is one of the nicest rejection emails I've seen. Definitely one of my reach schools, so I'm not suprised

Good luck to everyone else!

Yes, they do send very nice rejection emails. I was wait-listed last cycle and when they finally sent me a message in August to let me know that I wouldn't be coming off the list, they expressed so much regret I thought I should perhaps send them a sympathy card.

Rejection too.
LizzyM of 79
I guess my essays didn't convey something they were looking for, but it's not like BU asked a "why BU" type question that would let me express interest.

I obviously know nothing about the rest of your application, but with those stats, BU may be thinking that you are likely to ultimately matriculate at a highly elite institution. If so, it's really unfortunate (for both you and BU) if you have genuine interest in attending BU.

Rejected this morning. OOS ~3.9 gpa, 30+ mcat, great ec. At least there is still tufts!

You're absolutely right, but this early in the game where we all hold 0 acceptances, rejections still hurt. I wonder how many high-stats applicants schools like BU "lose" because they think they're "not good enough" even though BU is a great and desirable institution.

As a reapplicant, I completely understand the sting of rejections. I wonder though, if at the end of the day you are sitting on a Stanford or Yale acceptance, would you really pick BU?

Well, neither Stanford nor Yale have decided to interview me. But since you can see my MDApps, yes I'm fortunate to have interviews at schools that i may choose over BU. But I know of people who have had miserable post interview luck and I am not convinced I'm an above average interviewer.

I'm not bitter or even that upset. I've just had too much time to sit and think about this process and many facets still perplex me.

Just got that email from Boston apologizing for the delay in reviewing my secondary. The title of the email actually made it really clear that it wasn't an II or a rejection yet, but I still had a heart attack lol

Yes, I got this one too - complete 7/30.

Rejected on friday :whoa:. The email had a tone of an "its not you, its me" breakup

I am kinda curious about what the rejection letter said... Does someone mind copy and pasting it?

The Committee on Admissions of Boston University School of Medicine has completed its review of your application. It is with great regret that I inform you that we will be unable to offer an interview this year. This is a disappointment, as much for those who are responsible for the decision as it may be for you, the candidate who is turned away.

Most of the candidates we are considering this year are qualified to attend medical school and are likely to make important contributions to our profession and to society. Sadly, with more than 100 applicants for every seat in the class, we are forced to deny many exceptional people.

We acknowledge and respect your accomplishments and recognize that our inability to offer you an opportunity to complete the admissions process is a loss for Boston University. Please accept our best wishes for all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Witzburg, M.D.
Associate Dean and Director of Admissions
Boston University School of Medicine

did anyone get that 'sorry we are taking so long' email and then get rejected?

Rejected today. Complete 7/22 Lizzie M ~69-70

Rejected. Complete 7/28.

So NOT very sad.

Rejected today, complete 7/24. Oh well, it was a long shot anyway.

Rejected today as well. Was kind of hoping I had a shot here but best of luck to everyone else!

Rejected today (complete 7/22). LizzyM 65-70.

I guess that's why I applied to 34 other schools. 🙂

Rejection earlier today. Definitely a stretch school but I was hoping...

did other interviewees get the e-mail about diversity? Curious if they sent it out to everyone.
