2014-2015 Case Western Reserve University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't assume anything. Our admissions decisions and process is entirely separate. We are independent after submission of the secondaries until the final recommendations from the Dean at CCLCM are reviewed at Case proper.

Oh, okay. So it is common to have different interview dates for these two tracks?

Because I have to fly there, do you think an in the area email will help or something?

When I got my II for the college track they also sent a rejection for the university track so unless you got a rejection it's safe to say you're still in the running.

Anybody else interviewing here for UT tomorrow??

Simultaneous UT rejection and CT invite! Glad my first rejection could be offset with an II. 😉 Complete dates in MDapps.

FYI: Even though I was told that CCLCM is receptive to applicants from a wide variety of research backgrounds, I was doubtful about my competitiveness due to a lack of clinical/medically-related research. I guess that was all for naught!

Congratulations! In what I have read, "intellectually curious" seems to be the phrase most emphasized.

Is anyone trying to stay with a student host for their interview? I selected some student hosts, and it says to come back to the iApply page to see if anyone responded, but I don't see a place where they would respond.

You should get an email about it. I think it got it like 48 hours later.

I'm interviewing next week and I'll be staying with a host. It took a few days from when I put my preferences in but eventually I got an email from the admissions office saying I'd been matched with a host. The email included her email address and I emailed her after with my travel plans.

Alright thanks! I guess no one responded yet, even though it has been over 48 hours, so I'll just try to choose someone else.

Interviewed UT today and had a blast! Case is an amazing school and I would be honored to get accepted here!

Has anyone interviewed for College Track yet? Would love to get their impression. Also, does anyone know roughly how many students are interviewed for CT

+1 Wondering as well.

Pyrrion89 has a very thorough writeup on his MDapps regarding his experience at CCLCM. As per his MDapps, CCLCM is supposed to accept ~20% of their interviewees.

I think it is reasonable for you to ask, very politely, well in advance, if you are still being considered for the other track, for the reason you outlined.

Just read the MDapps. Seems pretty stressful :/. Thanks for your help.

Sounds great! Anything to share? (Not asking what they asked, just general advice. . .I would also be honored!)

I have to say, the interview was pretty standard, one faculty, one student, basically open file. Both interviews relaxed, plenty of opportunities to ask questions. I had no hard questions. In fact, my faculty interviewer had hardly any questions for me at all! We still talked for about an hour. Very low stress and super friendly students and admission staff. The clinical opportunities are crazy good (both UH and CC are of course ranked, but the other three hospitals there are great too) and there is only one medical school to use all those facilities. The classroom facilities will not win any prizes for being pretty or having natural light, but I feel the clinical awesomeness more than makes up for that! Plus, they're building a new building, although no one really knows when that will be done.

All in all, awesome interview day!

Just FYI, there is a new medical school starting up in Cleveland, and they'll begin accepting applications in the 2015-2016 cycle with their first class graduating in 2019. It's a DO school that's a satellite campus of Ohio University Heritage COM. It will be affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic, although it may be concentrated at South Pointe Hospital on the east side (at least for the first few years) because it has been a teaching hospital for DO students/residents for some time now.

Interesting! Thanks for the news!

Thank you. Helpful. (And I am willing to buy one of those sun lamp things. . . )

Rejected. Complete 7/30, OOS. Good luck everyone, seems like an awesome school!

Does anyone know if Case tells you ahead of time who you will be interviewing with?

Has anyone sent an update email post interview? Really enjoyed Case and thought it was a great place. Would like the chance to send them two paragraphs about what I have been learning in my clinically related job and why I really like case. @vc7777 . thoughts?

because you're totally uncompetitive with a 39 mcat. Oh please 🙄. I'll never understand your incessant need for validation, when the odds are already completely in your favor.

Rather than actually get irritated and write out some lengthy and annoyed response, I've come up with an appropriate list of emojis instead.

:wtf:
:eyebrow::nono::caution::boom::annoyed: :uhno: :bang::sendoff:

:troll:

And with that, I bid you adieu. :whoa:

Aint no reason for you to get mad about it when it doesn't relate to you. You're not seeking validation though when you already got mad interviews and your stats speak for themselves. You got interviews at John Hopkins and Columbia and you're not even flexing that in every thread. It's not like you or @hellanutella are dangling on a range of uncertainty and being borderline like many, so there's no reason to act like it, point being. It just screams attention and validation seeking behavior.

Speaking of "screaming attention and validation seeking behavior..." check this one out.

If there's one thing more annoying than a poster who makes personal attacks on an SDNer on multiple threads, it's a hypocritical poster who makes personal attacks on an SDNer on multiple threads.

Now, if we all don't mind, let's get back to talking about Case Western's MD Program.

lmao that's not attention seeking. it's called a fact, interviews are unnecessarily long as someone who has experience that you should be able to testify to that. yea, i got a lot of interviews and posted about, but I dont have a super high mcat score like either of you or even a 30. im someone who actually would have had a reason to worry about getting interviews, but the fact i've gotten so many is a testament to my work because i'm awesome and people who don't have your stats need someone like me to show that we can succeed in spite of the fact we don't have your stats. I don't need anyone's attention either way because the fact I've gotten those interviews is meaningful enough for me without having to obsessively seek validation in school threads after getting interviews from top schools. Plus I'm not popping in every thread and screaming for validation, and acting like I don't have a chance especially if my stats were way above average like nutella. It's just salt in the eyes to most applicants. It's insufferable obsession with validation, when you've already gotten interviews and shouldn't need the extra validation, and blatant humble-bragging.

@onceawolverine Oh wait you actually are another humble bragger in need of validation based off of your concerns about not getting in anywhere when you're interviewing at every top school. get real. I can't believe you're that insecure in your position. It's just utterly ridiculous and laughable in every way.

Why are we fighting? We are all finally hoping that someone sees us for who we want to be. Guys, please play nice!

:troll:

Just move along. If you ignore these outbursts, they won't spread and consume the thread. People from next year are going to want to find useful info and not pages of enraged bantering.

A successful troll is one who gets you to reply to them. (Clearly they are successful, as I have just posted and acknowledged their provocations 😉). Now back to strictly Case matters.

Obligatory GROAN. . . I believe that is the proper etiquette when one encounters puns? :vulcan:

Just had my interview today and it left me feeling a bit... confused. Case is obviously a great school, the director and dean of admissions were awesome and the hospitals you would do rotations in as a student there are so amazing and varied. Something about the curriculum was leaving me feeling uneasy though and I just wasn't getting the right vibe during my interview day. Again, it's a great school and the students there love it but I'm starting to see that you need to look closely at "fit" and just I don't know that Case is the right fit for me :/ Good luck to everyone who interviews here and hopefully you feel better about the school than I did!

Sorry to hear about the weird feeling- would you mind sharing your experience with the interview setting? Was it fairly laid back, or more stressful?

Did anyone else receive a "please complete your secondary asap" email or Case is showing me some love (really) ?

It seemed like everyone was saying that Case tries to have a low stress and relaxed interview day with interviewers that aren't intense or grilling. While both of the interviews that I had went pretty well and were pretty relaxed, most of the interviews that I had on my other interview days were a lot "smoother" and more conversational. It might just so happen that I ended up with two interviewers who weren't very conversational and wanted to stick to their question lists and most people's interviews might go a lot better than mine did.

Just some traveling advice..... While trying to book a flight from NYC, I came to the realization that there is an airport 50 miles south (1 hour drive) of Cleveland; Canton-Akron Regional Airport. Flights from NYC to Cleveland were running in the 330 range (the cheapest flights) but I got a deal from Priceline to fly to Canton with a rental car and hotel room included for 234.91. I just had to book a flight that left a little later in the afternoon on the way home to leave me time to get to the airport. It's a very big savings and very convenient. Thought this info might help some of you....

I know I have already asked this question, but would anyone who interviewed at CCLCM like to share their interview experience? I would really appreciate their input.

You're not the only one with that experience, I'm guessing that Case has some new interviewers who have yet to get smooth with the whole interviewing deal and ask all those canned questions which leaves the applicant little opportunity to talk about themselves. Hopefully such interviews don't affect the application.
