2014-2015 Dartmouth University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Two questions for those who have interviewed:

1. Is it an open or closed app interview?

2. Roughly what percentage of those who interview are accepted?

Thanks very much.

Don't know about 2, but the interview is open file. My interviewer kept looking at mine to ask me things about my app.

747 interviewed, 266 accepted last year according to US News.

1. it depends on your interviewer
I had one who looked at my app and another who didn't (he made it clear it was a personal choice not to)

2. ~30% sounds right

Both of mine had read my applciation for sure.
One of mine definitely had (had notes and everything), the other let me know up front that he preferred to conduct blind interviews.

I was just going to field that question myself. Anyone have any ideas/info? Maybe another cycle of II's and such after the new year they are holding off for?
@HorseshoeLex I was complete in early July and got an II last week, so maybe they're going back and reviewing in order but who honestly knows? In general though, no news I'd say is good news on here since there have been several rounds of rejections.

What interview dates are they scheduling for now?

From last year's thread: supposedly, Geisel has reviewers who specialize for different undergrads. So it is possible that they have different queues/order of interviews, depending on when exactly the person handling your undergraduate institution reviews your application. For what it is worth, they seem to make an effort to separate their decision making from the time when you interviewed.

So for small LACs or schools most people haven't heard of probably all fall under one category ?

Does anyone know what days of the week Geisel conducts interviews, or if there is a master schedule for the whole season? Thanks and good luck to all!

long shot, but did anyone get a post-interview decision today?

I am sure this has been 'answered' before. Sorry for any repeat on this thread. Is Dartmouth's focus solely on 'Numbers'? or are they more 'wholesome'? My stats are low, but I am pinning my hope on solid research and publications. Thoughts anyone? Thanks much

Is this a pre- or post-interview question? I can't speak to post-interview (still waiting to hear back a month after interview), but I have lower stats + solid research and publications and did get an II, though I'm not optimistic about getting accepted. Good luck!

Same boat, as well. Complete 8/20. Would you mind sharing stats? I am at LizzyM 70. Thanks

(Also, stats request from HorseshoeLex and JS20145 - if ok with y'all - thanks)
My LizzyM is around yours. Hold on if you have not been rejected!

Has anyone been rejected with complete dates in late Aug/early September? Sorry if this was already asked!

Haven't really gotten a straight answer on how to calculate my LizzyM, so that is what I will say for stats.

Lower stats here, lizzym 65... But from top 10 undergrad, quasi-nontraditional, very strong ecs, letters and essays. Still a longshot but holding out!

It's not a long shot at all. I have lizzym of 61, MPH degree from same top 5 institution and I still received an offer in November a month after I interviewed. There is is still a shot with low stats I think.

does anyone have an idea when the bulk of acceptance decisions come out? Interviewed back in september...

You give me hope! Congrats, that is awesome 🙂

I think they should release more decisions around the end of their interview season. We could theoretically hear back anytime between now and April, depending on how our application was scored by the committee.

EDIT: someone posted this earlier, however, I'm not sure if this is currently the process they are using to decide on candidates. http://geiselmed.dartmouth.edu/faculty/pdf/admissions_committee_charge.pdf

II just now. Thought I was done with interviews after the one today. Available dates 1/6 1/8 and 1/20.

Yeah same. Does anyone know how generous Dartmouth is with their financial aid (need-based/merit-based)?

No merit. Very generous with need based. From the financial aid presentation during interview day:

Aid = COA - Unit Loan - Estimated Family Contribution

Whatever is left over is your need based aid. I believe their unit loan is 36k-ish. EFC is determined via the fafsa.

Congrats guys! Were these II extended via portal or e-mail?

Thanks! That sounds good to me because it might even rival Texas med school tuition.
