2014-2015 Duke University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
In all honesty, I think it would be safe to assume that, at this point, a majority of initial acceptances have been made.

The more realistic fate is waitlist/rejection from now onwards for most of the rest (but wasn't that the most realistic fate when we all thought about applying here anyway?).

If we assume they initially accept class size, at this point I'm going to agree. I guess best to hope for at this point is WL and lots of movement on the WL come May.

I got a call from an unknown number on Monday, but it was a woman with a heavy Indian accent telling me I owed the government back taxes from 2004. I'm pretty sure middle school students don't have to file taxes.

Although this week has sucked so far, I actually laughed reading this. :joyful:

Speaking of chocolate stouts, I really want to drink a Left Hand milk stout nitro right now. Great hard pour.
I just had that for the first time a few days ago on nitro tap. So smooth.

If you're from NC, I also recommend Highland's Black Mocha Stout or Oatmeal Porter.

Alas, all I have in my refrigerator right now are hefeweizens. Not exactly cold weather fare.

Why would the physically mail out waitlist or rejections? I feel like they are probably mailing the people they accepted already information, right?

Got the call!! They're still going out. I can't believe it.
Congrats!!!! Just now? On their snow day. Geez, there goes another afternoon & evening of staring at my phone.

Yes just now. And interviewed in the last week of interviews in feb
Do you know who called you? If you'd rather not identify a person--just adcom member, admissions staff, mmi person? And congratulations!!

With every reported call, I cling to the faintest glimmer of hope. This is cruel and unusual.
For me, it's the opposite. Every reported call represents at least one fewer acceptance to be made. Still, sincere congratulations to the accepted!

All these reports of Dr. Yi calling people....the paranoia has gone beyond my application. During the meet-and-greet he laughed at my jokes, appeared to have a good time...maybe he was just being polite. Maybe I'm not actually funny. Nothing can be trusted anymore. Everything is a lie.

Just logged onto to sdn for the first time in a couple hours....really wish I hadn't. Now I am freaking out again when 5 minutes ago I was calm.

My feelings this week so far: get my hopes up, be disappointed. Rinse and repeat.
How long before I just feel dead inside lol?

Agreed. Very rough to be waiting in the dark. Also hard getting two No Caller ID calls this week that were not Duke. I looked so crazy before answering the phone... Hahaha.

It definitely won't be showing up on the portal without a prior email or call:

Nice observation. Guess it won't do us any good to constantly refresh the portal.

Well, they also stated on the portal that decisions won't be released via phone call this year and guess what happened... I feel like they could have handled this much better.

Rejected. Come on guys, it's been like 4 days since the phone call. Doesn't take four days to send an email for God's sake - and they already sent snail mail. I'm going with rejection or waitlist at best guys. Just trying to be realistic and I'm gonna move on. :hello:

Have you been following this thread? Two people got accepted today. Think what you like, but I'll keep hoping for the best until proven otherwise.

I have. Checking like every hour lol. Regardless, it still doesn't take four days to send an email if they've already made decisions.

I have little hope but I don't understand what you are trying to say. The accepted people haven't received emails either. No one has received emails.

I deferred last year so I know I'll be getting an acceptance, but I haven't heard anything so far. I'm abroad and my cell phone is disconnected, but my parents haven't gotten any mail and I haven't gotten an email either. So don't give up yet, I'm sure there's still time to hear good news!

Right, I understand. It just seems less and less likely to get a phone call as time goes on. If ALL decisions have been made since the first day calls have gone out, then it's really not that hard to send out a mass email relatively quickly rather than a trickle of phone calls. So, maybe they're tying up all loose strings and still making decisions for a last dozen. That's why they haven't sent out a mass email. Maybe they want to do the email method of delivery in one swoop. Anyways, I predict rejected! I'll bet on it haha (drinks on me if I'm wrong lolz), considering the way this cycle has gone for me 🙂

So negative. I predict waitlisted. Seeing how last years thread there was no sign of rejections. About half the class comes of the waitlist. I'm hoping for waitlist and then acceptance......seems reasonable to me. But still holding on to the possibility of a phone call until I hear otherwise! And I hope the same for you!

I respect that 🙂 Good luck!

So does Duke reject, or just waitlist?

People do definitely get rejected, and the waitlisters/rejected heard the same time of their fate.

Also, someone wanna volunteer to call tomorrow and find out what's up? haha

Maybe we find out differently? **clinging on to any hope
Yes. they are saying
  • Applicants who are not admitted to PCLT remain eligible for admission to the School of Medicine.
  • PCLT admission decisions are announced simultaneously with School of Medicine Admission decisions.
