2014-2015 Indiana University Application Thread

Does anyone know if IUSM has an initial seat deposit, and if so, when is it due?

No deposit, just mail in a hard copy of your acceptance letter within 14 business days. 🙂

For those who have interviewed at the Indianapolis campus: are there tunnels/skywalks connecting the different buildings, and will it be necessary to go outside during the interview day? I looked at the map--are the dark red marks tunnels? I'm from an area without snow, so I'm worried about the type of footwear that will be required. Thank you!

I did not interview there, but I went to IUPUI so I know the campus. There are skywalks in a lot of places everywhere. It can get kind of confusing on the medical school campus though. But if you can figure it out there is a good chance you won't have to go outside 🙂

Thank you! That helps a lot.

Anyone have an idea about when/how to select campus preferences? My login credentials seem to be working but can't find anything that looks like a campus preference selection.

Anyone interview on 11/5 and remember when they said they might get back to us?

Hi everyone. As far as how we are notified about acceptances: Is there a change in status on the application portal before a letter is sent? Or no status change and we just wait for a letter?

Status change doesn't come for a while. Most likely you'll receive snail mail first

I'm curious...how soon are acceptance decisions typically made post-interview? I had an interview on 10/8 and have not received a response yet. Are these typically emailed or is snail mail the way these work?

Apparently they score your application and review accordingly. I interviewed in early October as well and have yet to hear anything. The responses are mailed and apparently they're set to send rejections via mail this month too? The next round should go out on the 15th

They only send out decisions once a month. They go out by snail mail the 15th of each month all the way through April so just sit tight. I am in the same boat (interviewed 10/8) and I know the wait sucks.

Rejected today pre-II, complete 10/9/14. In state, attending Indiana University South Bend. Good luck, everyone!

This school is not supportive of minority students. There is no diversity in the faculty and residents. If you are a minority applicant, run from this school, it brings in a lot of residents from Kentucky schools and Missouri schools. Medicine is an apprenticeship you need faculty and residents to train you, if you are a minority you will not get that at IU. Run as fast as you can from this school!

My interviewer was an African American physician and she did her education and residency through IUSM. Also, there were definitely some minorities interviewing alongside me. Where are you getting this from?

Did anyone else receive an email about attending a mixer with faculty and students after their interview? If so, can you tell me more about it?

They have snacks and everyone just stands around and talks, lol. I accidentally ended up at it after the interview. Very pleasant and casual.

does anyone know if they actually sent decisions out on the 15th this month? December is weird for some schools, and I know they sometimes shut down and start again in January, so I'm wondering if IU was like that.

I looked at last year's thread, and they sent out decisions in December. Hopefully, that means good news for us. 🙂

Any current Indiana medical students here that I can message? I have a specific question

At my interview in November, they definitely said that the first chance of us hearing anything would be December 15th. So they are supposed to be rolling out some decisions this week!

Got an acceptance letter in the mail today!
OOS and Lizzy ~71. Interviewed 11/05.
This is my first acceptance, and I am so excited/relieved! :soexcited:
Good luck to everyone else still waiting!
Congrats! How far do you live from the campus?

Frankly I think the diversity issue is just an issue in medicine in general in the state of Indiana. IU is definitely working to overcome it. And if you are a minority and feel like you don't see other minorities around you at this school take that as an opportunity to bring about a change of atmosphere. You bring a diversity to the table that is desirable and have the chance to make a statement about diversity in medicine at this school and in the state. So don't shy away from that because you are afraid you won't be supported. Embrace it as an opportunity to be the change you want to see.

congratss!!!! what day is your letter dated?
From the 12th, so it took almost a week for it to get out here.

I'm curious if you or anyone else knows in regards to campus assignment, how long it took to get an email update about campus assignment information.

Dang. Interviewed in early September, and not a word. When are they going to reject us post-interview?

I checked one day maybe a month and a half ago, and saw that not all of my documents were marked as received, and I had to resubmit before the committee could review the application...so it's probably worth checking the status page

Thanks. All documents are green checkmarks, although it understandably claims I haven't taken the biochem I just finished.

So it looks like early October folks were evaluated this time around..hopefully us from November hear something next month.
