So on interview day they said that all the financial aid is Need Based. Does Hopkins provide grants to help with the portion of the Cost Of Attendance that goes beyond Family Contribution or is it mostly loans?

Is Hopkins truly neutral to OOS people? I saw an MSAR from a few years ago that seems to indicate IS people are interviewed at a greater rate.

They have no reason to be non neutral. If anything, I'd say it's because they probably interview a lot of the Hopkins undergrad, I was told by someone who went there that it was pretty much a big premed college.

I was thinking in terms of favoritism because of yield concerns (like if you live in DC/VA/MD), you might be more inclined to go to Hopkins if you were to get in.

I think it varies year to year depending on who applies and what they're looking for. I don't believe they have a true in-state bias like the university of Maryland does. There's no reason for it.

The pattern seeking part of my brain wonders if there is any connection between this new post on Hopkins's awesome FB page and the recent posts here on SDN. Well, if there is connection, it wouldn't be the first time that adcom respond to questions and rumors on SDN. Last year Michigan had some updates directly towards clarifying issues talked about on SDN. Anyway, it always make me smile to read these posts. Would have loved to meet the person writing these posts. Hopkins! Please look at my file harder!

"Good Morning,

I recently read a statement by someone who believed that our admissions process was biased in favor of residents of Maryland and against non-Maryland residents. This is quite false: we are a private institution and we admit students from any state or country, as long as they meet our requirements. The number varies from year to year, but typically the number one or two state for enrolled students is Maryland. Many premed students want familial support throughout their time in medical school, so for some of the enrolled students, this is more a reflection of the desire to attend a medical school near their family. However, since California is often number two (and this year, number one), that isn't always the case.

Furthermore, just as we have no preference for which state a student is from, the same is true for colleges and universities: there are no preferences given to any institution in the selection process.

Have a good week."

Aaaaand never posting on sdn again haha. I guess this answers the question of whether they check the boards.

Eeek II here on 10/3! Complete 8/29. So excited to check out Hopkins! They gave a single interview date but were very accommodating about rescheduling.

Hey all! Question for previous interviewees: what time did you leave the admissions office? Trying to see if I can make a 6:30 or 7pm flight at BWI!

II for 10/31. Totally unbelievable. You never know until you try I guess!

how long after confirming you interview date did you guys get a confirmation email?

Pre-interview MD/PhD & MD rejection. Good luck to everyone still in the running!

So I got a hold of a student host who will let me crash his place during my stay in Baltimore. Is there anything else I have to do as far as setting this up. Do I have to inform the admissions office that I will be staying with a student?

The interview here is amazing. Mostly because Johns Hopkins is amazing (if you like Baltimore which is actually way nicer than people give it credit for). I have never been more impressed with anything in my whole life. The buildings are immaculate, the students are wonderful. My only complaint is the students interviewer and faculty interviewer asked me the exact same questions... redundant

MD II Today. Complete 10/1. They slapped a date on me, but I have a conflict :/. Will be trying to work around it..Date is in mid November btw, so it looks like it is still early!

Although it's true there is no "merit scholarship" here, I found the "need based aid" to be very generous, i.e. to compensate... In fact, Hopkins was my cheapest option! I've heard that unless you're very wealthy, the amount of aid doesn't really differ from other programs (unless you're super qualified and can get a big merit scholarship elsewhere, but this is uncommon). If you look at last year's thread, you can get an idea of our reaction to the financial aid offers (generally very positive).

Hope that helps y'all! And hit me up with any more question 🙂

So if we get put on the alternate list in December will we be reevaluated for acceptance thruout the cycle? Or would we directly go to the wait list

Question: how beneficial is it to have an early interview at a place like Hopkins? I know for some schools, if you are in their early interview pools, you are some of their strongest applicants and they really want you, and if you essentially don't mess up the interview you are in. I suspect for a place like Hopkins, this isn't the case. Anyone have insight on this?

My student host said that he interviewed on the first day last year, and 10 of the 12 people interviewing with him got accepted and ended up going to school here. So I was under the impression that this was sort of true, at least for those who interview at the very beginning of the cycle.

Cool. Thanks for this info. I'm not holding my breath; you just can't at a place as phenomenal as Hopkins, but here's to hoping. Fingers crossed.

Anyone know the date where acceptances/rejections come out? The first round I mean.

I realize this is a pretty general question, but does anyone have insight into the type of student Hopkins "looks for", and how this may differ from Harvard? I have interviewed at Harvard and other top schools but have heard nothing but silence from Hopkins.
