2014-2015 Johns Hopkins University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
+1 rejected today, no II. But you win some you lose some. In other news, congrats to everyone who got accepted here last Friday!! I love watching the torrent of posts come in.

Edit: Omg that clip is so good and so sad.

Thankfully I've survived these two waves of rejections, but was complete back in August. Does this mean I'm still in the running for an II?

Complete first week of October (Actually finished my secondary back in August), not rejected yet. Not holding my breath, but I was kind of expecting to get shot down a little faster. Come on JHU, break my heart!

Is anyone looking into applying to the 929 Apartments? I know they said a large number of first-years live there, but I'm curious as to the pros/cons of living at 929 versus other off-campus options.

I read somewhere that parking at 929 costs $120 per month, which essentially bumps rent up to ~1K/month... while my hosts had a positively palatial row house (with personal garage) for $700 a month.

I'm personally looking at Mount Vernon. It looked like an AMAZING neighborhood when I visited. But it'll be more expensive. I didn't like the Wolfe St. building much.

Does anyone know when the next batch of decisions will go out?

Anyone know how the wait list at Hopkins works? Is it ranked or what?

Interviewed in November and if I remember correctly they said January 30th

I'm not sure if you would know but would people who interview early January be eligible to hear back at this date?

Has anyone who was waitlisted received a letter about how to keep your spot on the alternate list?

Sooo i read on this thread that for people who interviewed in the second batch (after 10/31) their decisions can come out as early at the end of january (I was also told this my the admissions officer who spoke with us) but on the JHU website application timeline- it says the decision will come out in feb/march. Are decisions given out on a rolling basis after the end of Jan for the second batch?

I was told on my interview day that we'd hear back on or before Jan. 30. So hopefully that means they're moving away from the 2 batch method and are switching to rolling, but I'm not sure.

Has any of the accepted people received their physical copies of the accepted letter yet?? Also, will we get information on how to log into the Net Partner student portal to fill out the JHU Institutional Aid Information Sheet for fin aid, or did I just miss that information? :/

Nothing on my end. Don't know if they send hard copies.

Oh gosh, I hadn't heard anything about this... hmmm... I don't see any new info on their website yet.

Nope but the online version of the letter did say January 1 for me so I thought we'd get it at the start of the year.

For anyone accepted who sent in an update post interview did you ever receive confirmation that it was added to your file?

Si. Got an e-mail literally five minutes later from Ms. Mazza, but I presume I was just lucky with the timing.

Good luck! Hope your wait isn't too long till decision time!

I haven't been accepted, but I did recently send an update and got confirmation 2 days later.

Yup, post-interview. Although I emailed with a question a while back (also post-interview) and never got a response...

For those that have sent updates, did you include an update or grades received in classes since submitting your primary? I want to include new grades in my update but am unsure if I need to like add a PDF of an official transcript for credibility's sake or simply include the classes and grades in my letter. Any thoughts?

idk specifics about JHU, but for other schools that I've been updating (other schools being waitlist updates) I've just been using unofficial transcripts. Especially because my school is a quarter system, my premed advisor said that no school is going to recalculate anything GPA-wise or bother with an official AMCAS verified update so just send the unofficial ones. They'll see that your most recent 1-2 terms have more A's then B's (hopefully).

Do you send them the entire unofficial transcript or just the part showing the grades that weren't sent with your primary AMCAS?

I recently sent an update and also attached my full unofficial transcript. It's only 3 pages--no big deal. They likely won't even look at it or care, but it is there for their reference.

+1, but at least it forces someone to look at your name and find your file again.

Can someone PM me to email address to send post interview updates? I seem to have misplaced my interview packet!

Would somebody mind PMing this to me as well? 🙂

Post-interview updates may be sent to Ms. Valerie Mazza at vmazz[email protected]. 🙂

Shameless plug here: I've got a GoogleDoc running (the brainchild of @breakintheroof) with all the update letter policies, acceptance trends, ITA email receptiveness, etc. for each school. Anyone is free to throw some new info up, expand upon previous entries, or correct/edit existing info!
