2014-2015 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just learned about this term while trolling earlier today...seems to mean being grouped into a more seriously considered pile; however, from what others have stated, interviews were also granted to those that were not "small pooled"

Not sure what to make of this. Just another bit of medical school application craziness

I can confirm as I never got a small pool

I can also confirm this. The only emails I received were the "complete" email (1 Oct) and interview invitation (16 Dec).

ya'll are super kind for the responses..thank you.

I am interviewing on March 6 and flying in from NY. I will definitely have to rent a car and hotel so I was wondering if any one else interviewing was looking to split any of those car or hotel.

Any 2/13 interviewees interesting in splitting a hotel and/or cab fare? Am arriving at/departing from O'Hare. Feel free to PM.

Does anyone know the number of acceptances given out by RF. Not as in matriculating, but total acceptances? They interview about 620, So I would assume 200-400 accepted

Do you think it was because of the interview?
Potentially...I think I bombed the first MMI question (but felt ok about the rest of them). My MCAT is on the lower end too. It's so hard to know how the process works!

Has anyone who has been accepted received a background check email yet? Or do you know when we complete that and the immunization form?

I'm going to withdraw my II. I don't think I would go here over albany even if they gave me a ton of money. Speaking to an attending that went to CMS kind of solidified my decision.

Hopefully someone here gets it!

I'm not a fan of the condescending tone of this post. Perhaps it was unintended, but lets not rain the parade of people who are ecstatic to go here for medical school.

What? You don't like the extra soft ones?

If you're going to go to that length to look for insult, I'll make your life a little easier.

Or, you could realize that what's right for me and my goals isn't necessarily right for you and you should move on. But given your incredible decision making skills, i.e. turning down a II at PSU as you wouldn't pick that over Quinnipiac, you've kinda rendered your opinion as invalid.

To all the other applicants waiting on a II, I really hope one of you gets it! Good luck and congrats to everyone with recent acceptances here.

Is anyone flying in for an interview on Feb 13th? If so, please PM me if you would like to split cab/hotel for 12th.

Dude grow up. Seriously. Your post said nothing about what was right for you. I was just respectfully telling you how it came across. But apparently you can't take criticism without making disrespectful remarks. As for my decision making skills, many factors come into play when you are relocating with your wife and 2 kids across the country, so I really don't care what you think.

I'm glad clinical experiences don't fit your criteria of things of high importance for med school given that quinn doesn't even have their 3rd and 4th year set up yet. But I'm glad you'd be willing to relocate your family for a nice little experiment.

Maybe you should re-read the original post that you seemed to get butthurt over. There was nothing in my post that was untrue. Given that I have a resource that is doing amazing things and went there, I thought I'd get an honest opinion. He told me to go anywhere else if I had the option, which he didn't have at the time.

Some of us work in hospitals/medically related things and have the luxury of working with people that give us a candid opinion of what the longer term reality of attending certain institutions can be. I didn't join this forum to be popular, so frankly I don't really care how you perceive my comments, but to me it's pretty damning when an attending refers to their medical school as 'an anchor' and says that they'd have gone anywhere else if they had a choice in the matter.

If you didn't really care about what I think, you wouldn't have taken offense to my post earlier. If that honest comment is considered raining on your parade, I suggest learning to throw yourself a parade that doesn't suck so much that the letters contained in two sentences becomes the monsoon.

I can tell you that we have research opportunities all over the Chicagoland area. About half of the class does research (paid!) between the first and second year (with the other roughly half the class getting international medical experience). I myself participated in clinical research between M1 and M2, and just kept going with it for the next 3 years. Furthermore, the school has already paid for me to present at a national conference (flight, hotel, etc) and will be doing so again when I present in April. Trust me, if you want research, basic science or clinical, you can get involved in something at CMS.

Can you tell me more about the paid research? I'm interested in a specific lab at Pritzker SoM that would take me on at least a voluntary basis. Assuming it's voluntary, would CMS then give me a stipend?

Also, as a CMS student would I be able to take time off to complete an MPH at Pritzker, Northwestern, UIC etc? If so, does CMS provide any kind of stipend or other support for that?

Sorry if these are dumb questions.

Maybe you got rejected from Quinnipiac because you're a poor listener. They do in fact have their clinical sites set up. They have a full clinical partnership with St. Vincent's in Bridgeport and have affiliations with another 8 hospitals in the area. You can call it an experiment all you want. It's just more supporting evidence of your condescending attitude.

I never accused you of telling untruths, even if your truths are anecdotal. You just came off as a jerk, and you continue to do so.

You are not raining on my parade, I don't plan to go to CMS (for many reasons that have little to do with the quality of education). But yes I was "buthurt" because I understand how difficult it is to get into medical school and took offense to you coming onto CMS's thread and implying that it's a crap school that you wouldn't even go to "if they payed you a ton of money". Is this lost on you?

Why does this attending consider CMS an anchor? Please elaborate.

The paid research over the summer must be with CMS faculty; the grant is intended to reward students who contribute to scholarly work at CMS.

Also, as a CMS student would I be able to take time off to complete an MPH at Pritzker, Northwestern, UIC etc? If so, does CMS provide any kind of stipend or other support for that?

As thrilled as the school would be that you might decide to pursue such a degree, I don't think the school would offer funding for you to receive a degree at an institution that has no relationship to CMS. I'm sure you would be given the time off, but they're not going to go out of their way to encourage you to go somewhere else for another degree.

Sorry if these are dumb questions.

Answering all questions, dumb or not, is my specialty! ;-)

As someone who goes to this school, I'm going to encourage you to allow people to criticize our school; the poster you replied to is allowed to criticize our school and call it crap one hundred ways until Sunday; it doesn't make him right, and it doesn't mean that the critiques are 100% valid, but that poster has every right to make them. This thread is a safe place for people who want to laud, criticize, or be neutral about our school, so if you're going to contest someone's critiques, please contest the critiques themselves and not the mere fact that someone is complaining.

Are there any issues with rotations 3rd and 4th year since the school doesn't have its own hospitals? Issues finding research mentors and such? I'd love to hear more about the school since I've heard only negative things, but the match lists are good and students seem happy so I'm willing to take the leap and interview.

You definitely have to work for research, but it's available. During the first two years, the VA is a great place to do research as it's right next door. During the third and fourth years, the sky is the limit as you'll likely be living in the city, but even if you choose to stay up north, you can continue to do research in that area.

Ah yes the old attack the spelling mistake from a cell phone post trick. Bueno. And I got called a jerk on the internet. Nooooo! Such sad. Oh how will I sleep at night.

Maybe one of the considerations when deciding to go to an interview post acceptance is whether you'd attend it given certain considerations. I wrote my thought process out. Did you really get that upset from that?

The telling thing about quinnipiac is one of my interviewers had negative things to say about their clinical sites. Take his word over mine. He's the one that works there. I'm not sure what your interests are but I'm open to working in the field that I've published in and it's pretty damn competitive so this stuff matters.

I didn't get in there because I lost interest when they didn't have 3rd and 4th year rotations planned and went to the interview for practice and because it was cheap. They don't have any of the things that are important to me like a home hospital and a reputation and now we're right back to one of the reasons why RFU isn't for me.

If in your misguided worldview that counts as being a jerk then that's good for you.

If I hadn't gotten in anywhere yet, I'd go to the interview at RFU and happily attend if it was the only place I got in. That's not the case though so I'm being picky. If that really hurts your feelings so much then I suggest you grow thicker skin.

Peace out. Good luck with your cycle!

Good luck to those waiting for IIs.

That's not why I quoted buthurt (I'm not sure what webster's official spelling is anyway). It's actually one of my biggest pet peeves when people correct others' grammar/spelling as if we all want to grow up to English teachers.

Anyway, we are obviously not getting anywhere with this little chat. See you around.

C'mon kids - we all know that a MD is a MD. When patients go to a physician - they do not focus on where that MD went to school, just how he takes care of them! Can't we embrace that we're in it together and little do you know, the people that argue with on here may your partner in the future.

Hi Rosy fans, just got lucky with another UIC ii and feel really blessed. I was just checking the interview schedule when 2/25 popped and I moved it back from March 6. My UIC interview is also on 2/26 which works out nicely. Hopefully it all goes well and wishing u all the best!

I feel like this thread needs a group hug. Let's just drop the disagreements, agree to disagree, and move on.
:hello:

Hey guys,

So I'm really interested in this school but I don't know what to do. I received an email on Nov. 5 saying that I am still being reviewed, and to allow 8-10 weeks for an update. I'm assuming that was a "you're on hold" email. It's been 13 weeks since...(let's say they took 2 weeks off for the holidays, so it'll be 11 weeks).

They also mentioned in the email "Please note, we cannot accept any additional information or materials for your file beyond our application requirements, unless it concerns Institutional Action, Felony, Misdemeanor or Military Discharge. Please note that admissions counselors are unable to provide you any further updates by phone or email regarding your status other than that you are currently in primary screening."

So what do I do? Just sit and wait?

Submitted my secondary on Sept 11.

Yup! Just sit and wait. It's out of your hands.

Does anyone have any idea if CMS admissions would be receptive to an 'in the area' email? I will be in Chicago in March and would love to interview here!

Does anyone have the accepted/matriculants data. Like how much in total are accepted

I am flying in on Feb. 19 at 8 pm and interviewing on Feb. 20 a.m.
Does anyone want to split a cab from O'Hare on the 19th, or from the school back to O'Hare on the 20th? Pm me.

No response to my request but got lucky with the dates though. It seems like their system is self-regulating!

Anybody still interested in splitting cab fare from O'Hare?

Could anyone give me info on how long it would take to go from Center City Chicago to North Chicago if I were to leave early in the morning, ~6 oclock? Google says about 50 minutes but I am unsure of how bad the traffic in the area is at that time.

At 6 am, you're pretty safe, but once 7 hits, hell breaks loose, so make sure you stick to that time frame pretty religiously.
