2014-2015 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I will contact you as soon as the committee has reached a final decision on your application. A final decision will be reached at any time between now and the end of May. I regret that I cannot be more specific in terms of predicting when our committee will reach a decision on your application.

I am not sure that we will definitely hear tomorrow.
Agreed. I've gotten the impression that deferred applicants won't necessarily hear back by the trafficking deadline (and Tufts isn't the only one I've heard that from/about). I don't know how/why they're allowed to break that "rule", but if you look at last year's forum a bunch of deferrees hadn't heard anything by/on the trafficking deadline (which was 5/15 last year) and a bunch posted they got their waitlist/rejection notification about a week after it. I'm under the impression that the schools need to see how trafficking shakes out in order to make their decisions on deferrees... which sucks. But hopefully it means we'll hear within the next week or so!

Gyngyn mentioned a deferred/hold status may be indeed a 'decision' and more than likely categorized as a 'waitlist' per AMCAS. therefore they are not breaking any rules...complete joke imo.

Rejection today after October deferral. That's the game for me ladies and gents, 0/2 now and I'd have to take the MCAT again to apply a third time :/ . Congrats and good luck to everyone on the waitlist.

I just got the boot, too. Good luck to everyone still holding out!

Waitlisted today as well. At least we heard before May 15??

@Kjbds1 Is the competitiveness of the Maine Track program greater/equal to/less than the competitiveness of getting into Tufts Med? I'm not from Maine but very interested and I'm not sure whether I should apply for Maine Track or not. Can students transfer into Maine Track after they get in? Can they transfer out of Maine Track after they get in? Thanks!

Guess I'll join you all...waitlisted today!

On interview day, one of the Maine Track deans told us the average GPA and MCAT of accepted students are virtually the same as the the regular Tufts program. They do give preference to applicants who have some connection to Maine/New England/rural locales. No, you cannot transfer into/out of the Maine Track once you matriculate. You can apply to both the Maine Track and traditional Tufts program simultaneously, though, so I don't think there's a reason not to apply to it. Just don't look at the Maine Track as a back door into Tufts.

Thanks! I appreciate it and will look into applying to both! 😀

I don't think anyone has come off the wait list but maine track people

I don't expect to see much movement from the WL for regular MD

Do you know of Maine track applicants who have been accepted off the waitlist? Or does Maine track usually have more movement (seems weird since it's such a small percentage of the class)?

A lifelong relationship with pessimism....

That and less than a dozen people came off the waitlist last year.
Ah, I see. If I were to guess I'd probably say the same in terms of movement. How do you know there were about a dozen that came off last year?

So theoretically you can't transfer between Maine Track and Regular Track once you start. However, if someone leaves the Maine track for whatever reason in the first year (maybe 2) they have allowed opened it up to switch from regular to Maine Track. That being said, this requires some pretty specific circumstances and I don't think you can count on it. I have never heard of anyone switching from Maine Track into regular track.

This thread has been so quiet. Anyone have any updates on waitlist movement or called the office to find out anything?

Has anyone heard of any movement on the waitlist for the regular track?

Any accepted students for class of 2015 have any suggestions on filling out the secondary's "Pre-Requisites and Competencies"?

The pre-reqs are obvious, but the competencies I am unsure how detailed they are looking for.
