2014-2015 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry to hear about the rejections guys. I think anything <31 just gets an auto reject here unfortunately 🙁

I hope this means interviews are coming out soon though...

Excited when I saw all the alerts. Bummed to find out about all the rejections. Good luck to you guys in the rest of the app cycle!

does tulane send out complete emails? i didn't get anything, but i have a green check mark next to my "application complete", but a red exclamation mark next to "application in progress". is this normal?

They send complete emails.

But they don't necessarily have to send one either.
I never received one, but was also rejected in that first wave.

I got an email titled "Tulane University School of Medicine: Application Complete" right after I submitted my secondary, and then received the same email again 5 days later. I didn't check the red/green checkmarks, but it probably just takes some time to process through their systems

Sorry about the rejections, guys. Best of luck elsewhere.

Still no word for me, but I'm getting nervous with all of this!

With all these early rejections, now I'm hesitant to submit my secondary app (and $125 fee) until I get my MCAT score back next week...

So my red exclamation mark next to "in progress" has turned into a green checkmark. Anyone else have this?

Yes. I had all green check marks but never got a complete email. After a month I called (I submitted the secondary 7/4) and they were really nice about it. They said they made a clerical error. If you don't get a complete email for a super long time, it might be worth checking in with them.

Also, replied to the wrong post. whoops. the post I meant to reply to is quoted in yours!

I wonder if Tulane has a preference for their undergrads

Is anyone here applying ED? I'm curious about if any ED applicants have heard anything yet. I was complete about a week ago

I wonder if Tulane has a preference for their undergrads

I'm not sure, but I have a friend who graduated from Tulane with a 3.9c/3.8s and MCAT 31 or 32, and he was wait listed. He did have weak ECs though.

Mine went straight to the green checkmark. Maybe they were waiting on LORs or something.

I wonder if Tulane has a preference for their undergrads
I don't know if Tulane Med has an overt preference for their undergrads, but Tulane undergrads would certainly would have an advantage: Tulane Med emphasizes "why new orleans" and knowledge of the city and community service. A Tulane undergrad would have those three in large quantity.

Anybody have any insight into the "in progress" status? Is everyone in progress or is there a complete status?

Just out of curiosity from the people that got rejected when were you complete? It would be helpful to know how far down the list they are date wise.

Hey, I also have a 28. What other schools did you apply to?
Lots,

rejected from Quinnipiac already, Temple, Drexel, EVMS, VCU, Wake, all 4 SUNY schools, Cooper Rowan, Howard, Meharry, Morehouse, Maryland, Albany, NYMC, VTC, GW, Georgetown, Hofstra, Rush

Tulane is sort of a reach.

Same. I've got my "Why Tulane" answer ready, but my stats are really keeping me from submitting now. $125 is really on the steep side of these secondary fees

Finally submitted my secondary...one of my referees took over 2 months to upload his letter. My latest MCAT score was received on July 21st. So frustrating...let's hope for the best!

So... kinda a minor question here.

When I look at my admissions portal I see two messages that both say "application complete", one on July 15th, another on July 22nd. Is it typical to have two messages like this, or was my app not really complete until the 22nd, despite the earlier confirmation I got?

It looks like Aug. 13 (coincidentally tomorrow) first IIs went out. However lots of rejections prior to II last year, but it's been complete radio silence this year.

Waaah, but today's Tuesday, so that means we might have to wait a whole week longer! 🙁

Or maybe they'll switch to Wednesdays this year? 😉

Hang tight, everybody! This is testing my patience right along with you. Good luck!

It's honestly a waste of time to try and predict the exact day/pattern of anything like secondary releases.

You can get an idea of the general time frame, but things change so often (application numbers surges, reviewers have to call in sick, computer system problems) that it's pointless to get too worked up about it.

Just know it is likely soon (but we will only know when it happens)

You have a point, there were about 15 posted rejections last year (by this time) compared to the 5 or so we have now.

But this is hardly a solid indicator (self reported, non-representative sample) so I don't know.

Are there other schools who send rejections before extending any interview invitations? (Aside from schools that pre-screen before secondaries, that is.) What's the logic behind that?

Yeah, I've seen it before in other schools.

What's the logic in holding off? I mean, clearly they know they aren't going to invite some people as they narrow down their pool of invites. They don't know for sure if they are going to invite someone to the very end (even if you are qualified, they can only invite so many people) but they do know if they are going to reject people pretty early on.

So why wait? If I am going to be rejected I would rather know sooner than later.
