Ok so i have this on my portal -- What does this mean? Am I on alternate status? Does anyone else have this?

University of Washington School of Medicine alternate status for the entering class of 2015
An alternate list has been established for each WWAMI state with Washington and Out of region alternates on the same list. Alternates are accepted in ranked numerical order. The most recent alternate ranks accepted are listed below.

Idaho: Alternate -- has been accepted

Montana: Alternate -- has been accepted

Alaska: Alternate -- has been accepted

Wyoming: Alternate -- has been accepted

Washington/Out of region: Alternate -- has been accepted
Like all of that is on your main page when you first log in??

ummm last year I was on alternate status and they sent me an email specifying what number I am at. My portal looked similar like what you posted, but didnt tell me the # position, which was only communicated to me via email. So I am guessing you may be on alternate status but you should have received an email about ur rank?

I haven't gotten an email, I guess I can expect one soon. What type of number should I hope for to actually get in? One below 40?

Does anyone have any info about what the portal looked like before acceptance/rejection?

@rratsa I have the same thing but I also have an icon for Washington Site Preference - do you have that as well (assuming you're WA resident)?

This is some legit reconnaissance network we have going here
That is what I am saying. Plus folks be freaking out about portal changes and such. Medical schools admissions takes normally confident and successful people and reduces them to psychologically deranged versions of Dwight Schrute!

If I had to wait 5 months for a decision like some people I would go nuts! I would absolutely have spies figuring out EXCOM meeting times :ninja:

My post got lost in the sea of comments today.

Can somebody put up the Waitlist Movement for 2014 if it's available?

@annabelle17 and @lilypond147, what do you see when you click on the icon?

It's basically asking us to submit a 250 word essay on which site we prefer within one week of being accepted.

At first it was a little misleading because it says "Required materials are due within one week of receiving this acceptance letter. We would appreciate it if you would submit this statement as soon as possible" but I don't think it means an actual acceptance (I hope I'm wrong about this!)

Is this what you guys see too?

What do accepted peeps' portals look like?
Mine has these links: secondary application, out of town, interview information, and acceptance information. All are functional. Next to the links it has a congratulations on acceptance message, a message to keep them up to date about being out of town, and the date action was taken on my application.

Thank you for posting this!!! I really appreciate it!

Rejected. So sad.... We'll see how next year goes! Best of luck to all of you!!

Rejected, second time applicant. SUC x4, interviewed January. Clueless.

Waitlisted... #7 The wait continues :/ Does anybody have a clue how many alternates tend to get accepted?

It pays to take some time to improve yourself as a professional, a person and an applicant... I speak from experience. Good luck in all that you do!

I'll be heading elsewhere but would've been nice to have this an option. Ah well!

#35, do you guys think i have a chance to make it off? 🙁
I think 40 students were taken off the waitlist year before last. Actually you have to go back before 2009 to find a year when less than 40 were taken.

alternate list low 20's...I have no clue how to feel. very happy to still be in the running, but the extended wait is gonna be killer. UGH.
And to those rejected, I'm seriously sorry 🙁 I was rejected last year and it was a horrible feeling, but keep your heads up. Hopefully you have other acceptances, but if not, set up a meeting with Dr. Teitz ASAP to see what went wrong, make the necessary fixes, and kill it next year!

Low 20's means accepted, you are good to go! Just look at the google doc.

Out of the last 13 years the lowest they have ever taken is 29.

Well, it's been real. Just got the rejection email. Maybe that'll give those of you who haven't heard some hope for at least the wait list. Would have been awesome to attend UW, but at the end of the day I'll still be going to medical school in the fall. See you all again around residency 🙂

Keep trying and seek counsel on what you could change on your app. At the end of the day, a lot of it is a numbers game and reapplying is absolutely worth it. Don't get idle, but also don't think that you have to overturn everything. You've made it this far for a reason. Best of luck! And ask others for help anywhere you can. I can't even begin to count how many people I went to after getting rejected everywhere last year.

Number of accepted off the waitlist by year.

Rejected. Walking proof that UW values a lot more than stats (3.7/42 MCAT). I'll be heading to the Northeast-everyone accepted, congrats and enjoy the best city in the country! If you're new to the area and want advice on things to do feel free to message me. Best of luck to everyone.

Interviewed mid-December, 4 SUC emails total. Alternate list today in low 30s.... not sure what to feel... (mostly just hungry... appetite returned once the cloud of mystery was lifted?) Congratulations to all those accepted, and good luck to all those still waiting or headed in other directions!

Also just to make sure one more time... there's no data on how far down the alternate list they got in 2014? Or maybe not even actual data... is there any hearsay? Just looking for a thread of hope to cling to....

Whoa! Well you obviously don't need a UW acceptance to feel good about yourself!

Well it seems like a statistical rarity if they go far from accepting less than 40 from the waitlist, so don't be too hung up on it. If it's your only option left, stay busy just in case. Good luck!

I checked the thread last year and it got up to #37 (that I know of). Based on the numbers I say low 30s is a good chance, since i am at #35.
