2014-2015 Vanderbilt University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Of course, I put my home phone number down on the application and will be at work late tonight. :dead: Eh, what can you do?

But HUGE HUGE CONGRATS to this flood of acceptances! So glad you got in @Person0715... I kept seeing you mention how much you loved this school. And @ProbablyAPenguin... two scholarship offers already? You are a machine! Looks like a lot of people on here are in for some very hard decisions come April.

Hoping I'll be meeting you at second look! Hehe

can anyone copy the URL for the secondary portal? I accidentally deleted it and can't find my old e-mails that have it 😕

They said on the phone that the student portals would be updated tomorrow. So if you're like me and were refreshing it all day, don't bother haha

any ideas on this??

Remember that not everyone who got a 3/4 scholarship will end up matriculating. Those scholarships would then be given to someone else. Some other posters have mentioned that Vandy has a somewhat low yield rate (~200 acceptances to fill 88 seats), so I would definitely expect good news on the scholarship front in the future!

Just wanna say that if you haven't heard back by now, you might not have been WLed. You could have been postponed to Feb meeting so there are still hope for an outright acceptance. I am in that situation. Let's all have a good meal tonight and get ready for the not-so-long a wait.

All of us who for acceptances should matriculate at Vandy to ruin their approach of over-acceptance. I wonder what they would do?

It's not just Vandy. Every school does it. Umich had to financially incentivize people to defer for a year because they over accepted this year. But in general over-acceptance is very rare.

Did anyone's caller say anything about getting an official letter in the mail? Mine didn't, but past years' threads have.

Yes, mine told me the official acceptance confirmation is done through the portal, but Vandy will also be sending an acceptance letter via snail mail.

do you guys know what the qualifications for merit scholarship are, and if it based on having strong gpa and mcat? i'm below average for vanderbilt on both fronts

It was my understanding that the options for this round were Accepted, Rejected and deferred to the next round... no waitlists as yet. Do i have that wrong? All I know for sure is this phone didn't ring with any good news today, unless you want to count the text from my phone provider saying I could be due a rebate. Good news and all, but not exactly what I was hoping for. 🙁

I believe that is correct. However, there is the chance that you simply were not reviewed yet (a more passive deferral I suppose).

No voicemail on my home phone, so I'm assuming it's a rejection or deferral. Guess I just have to wait it out until my portal updates with the verdict.

My goodness, this was an exciting thread today! It's been said before, but congrats all around to the acceptances and scholarships! I'd hazard to say that no other thread on here has this much money being handed around. :greedy:

Noooooooooooooooooo. I'm sure it's a deferral! I need to meet youuuuuu.

yay accepted!!!
guess i just missed the call yesterday...stupid phone!!

btw...since i missed the phone call, i didn't hear about any scholarships...is there a way to find out??

I didn't see a mention of a scholarship on my portal. Maybe you could call the admissions office and be like "I didn't receive a phone call yesterday, which I recall you mentioning in the interview. I was accepted on the portal, and was wondering if there was any additional information that I missed because the portal doesn't say a lot"

Then it doesn't sound like you're asking about a scholarship specifically.

Also on the phone call they told us stuff like second look dates, etc

Though they are sending snail mail confirmations that probably include scholarship info.

They mentioned it to me over the phone but I don't see it in the portal, so don't give up just because you don't see it in the portal. You never know! I'd call.

The portal now says:

Under Active Review: Thank you for your continued interest in Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Your application is under active review by the Admissions Committee, which will reconvene at the end of February. You are welcome to send additional information that supports your candidacy to [email protected]. Thank you.

Does this seriously mean I will not hear until February?

This is my worst nightmare.

Send all the update letters!!!!

@ProbablyAPenguin Can you post those second look dates? 🙂
Ummm March 27th was mentioned. I believe. Well actually I heard something like March 24-27, which sounds like an excessively long second look and is probably incorrect. But I was too excited to process anything specific and only remember thinking "last weekend in March, ahhhhhh!"

I also just got the active review status (I'm just so relieved it wasn't a rejection!)...does anyone know what percentage of acceptances are offered in December vs. February?

Hehe I also forgot anything that was mentioned in the call after I heard "3/4 scholarship"!! Hmm... unless they have a Tuesday-Friday second look, it's probably on the order of March 27-29. Does anyone else have details on second look dates?

Deferral to February as well! Don't think I'll have Hattie B's hot chicken in my future, but stranger things have happened.

@mitman that is such an awesome surprise! Congratulations! 😀

Congrats to all who got accepted! I'm anxious for my 1/16 interview 😀 Best of luck to everyone else!

Under active review as well. Does everything think that it's either accept/deferred at this point?

That's a deferral per the admission office. We are still in the running. Keep your hopes up!
