2015-2016 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats! What dates were available?
They had late January and an early February date available. I am not familiar with the cycles but is it normal to call people in for interviews like two weeks in advance? All my other interviews have been scheduled with at least a month and half time.

Seems like it varies by school. Some of mine were scheduled 3 months out, while others would have allowed me to come the following week.

Yeah, that's crazy! But if Dartmouth interviews into late March, then still a good number of interview spots left 😀

So I just milled through last year's thread and it seems that anyone like myself and @CellPowerhouse who are still waiting pre-ii, they were still giving out II's and rejections for July/August applicants into mid-March.....
Thanks for doing that, @CyrilFiggis! Hopefully the same will happen this year and we get IIs.

Can anyone please share more on their interview experience here? 🙂

Got a notification to provide consent for a CBC from Certiphi yesterday morning. Saw last year this happened to somebody and BAM, two days later he was accepted here. Here's hoping, though it could be another school, but Geisel is my #1! Interviewed 10/13. Any of you that have already been accepted have this experience of receiving the criminal background check notification right before acceptance?

Sure thing. You're gonna walk into this beautiful room (the admissions office). You check in with a very nice lady at the front, who will give you your nametag and a folder with the day's schedule and the names of your interviewers. I suggest you arrive early and check out some of the awesome books that are on the tables in the waiting room, in addition to some of the historical artifacts around the room! Lots of cool stuff to see.

You will get some great talks from the Geisel team regarding financial aid, what it means to be a Geisel student and graduate, and some opportunity for questions directly with the Dean. Financial aid was extremely transparent, so have questions prepared if you feel the need to. Also, I recommend you get to know your fellow interviewees names. You will get to meet some pretty amazing people and potential future classmates!

You will take a shuttle to the main medical center (which is AMAZING). This was led by an MS4 for me, and he was very insightful and kinda sealed the deal for me. You'll have lunch at the hospital (buffet style). Afterwards, you might have some time to see more of the hospital. After the tour, you will go back to the admissions office and wait with your fellow interviewees for your interviews. The Geisel team was kind enough to provide documentation for what your interviewers' backgrounds are and how long they have been working with Geisel/Dartmouth. My interviews were conversational but had some specific points made about my application, so be 100% comfortable speaking about anything pertaining to your life experiences. My interviewers were very refreshing to speak to and really left me with an amazing impression of the school. They are not out to get you; the interview is all about fit. Be yourself.

After the interview, the entire admissions team votes on you. I believe they take an average of your scores from the committee meeting. If you meet a certain average score, you get accepted fairly quickly (if I remember correctly). Else, you wait a few months. I hear most decisions come out in Spring, but I'm not sure.

Hope that helps. Have fun on your interview day!!!

WOW @HybridEarth Thank you so much. This is super helpful. I'm so excited now! Hope we'll be classmates 😀

some of the admissions officers saw me in my normal clothes after the interview... thinking that's why they don't like me =P for serious though I'm actually worried about this

I don't think you have much reason to worry (assuming your normal clothes don't contain any profanities or something). They're really nice at Dartmouth and not very judgmental.

On my interview day it seems like the folks in admissions actually encouraged applicants to get comfortable after interviews, i.e. for the student led tour. I personally didn't bring my luggage with me but I was definitely one of only maybe two or three people who didn't change. Really, don't worry.

Also got an II today. Is there any general wisdom about their potential generosity with scholarships and/or aid?

I'm not certain, but I believe scholarships are need-based.

Also, obligatory: complete date?

got axed 2 days ago pre-II. Did not expect to get an interview (stats 33, 3.6), but still pretty miffed about it since I still haven't been accepted anywhere yet 🙁
GL to the rest still in the running and congrats to those who have been accepted already.
Officially hitting "unwatch thread" today

This is kind of a long shot... but I have an interview here on Thursday 2/4 (yayyy!) and an interview the next morning in New York (whooops!).

The one flight from Lebanon, NH that worked with the interview schedule seems to be full. Would anybody want to drive that Thursday to New York (Manhattan) and split the cost of a rental car? If someone is making that drive anyways, I would happily split the cost of gas.

Finally, if anybody has a better suggestion about how to handle this transportation dilemma, that would be much appreciated as well!

I did. It was at a busy time so it took a few tries, but everyone responded the same day I'd contacted them. If it's been a week I'd feel okay about trying someone else.

I cannot find an available student host for the night I am interviewing (end of January), and getting a hotel isn't really a good financial option right now. Does anyone have any advice?

Airbnb? Or maybe someone on here is willing to split a hotel on here if they have the same date?

Maybe email the admissions office? They might be able to reach out to more students not on the formal host list that would be willing to step in. Just a thought.

I am thinking that is my best option right now. Thanks!

If you'd like, you can PM me and Ill give you the contact info for the student host that I stayed with! He was awesome- super friendly, accommodating, helpful, and fantastic about replying/staying in touch prior to my interview day.

For the recent interview offers who were complete in July/August, would any of you mind sharing your stats? I've been waiting since August with no word and am unable to resist checking my email every 10 minutes… really, really hoping for an II.
