Looks like that year they had an interview waitlist start in late september/october...according to the thread

Seriously? Maybe there is a lot of movement on the wait list after October 15th?

interview tomorrow. Can anyone tell me how the order of the day went? 8 am start with breakfast. Is the interview / interviews before or after the tours?

Brief intro to curriculum, then interviews in early AM (around 9AM). Rest of the day to relax during tour, financial aid info, etc.

I'm OOS, LizzyM 72-73 (deadly combo of mediocre GPA/killer MCAT). I think those of us with lower GPAs might've been lower priority for review but that's pure speculation! Since it's still pretty early in the cycle and it looks like there aren't many interview slots left, so I wonder if they will add more either post-January or squeeze a few more interviews in late fall/early winter.
cool thanks. have opposite problem, killer GPA, crappy MCAT (28).

"We will be sending out interview invitations via email up until the end of January." This is what it says on their portal.
Do you think they're actually out of spots?

They are sending interview invites through the end of January. They are likely conducting interviews through march or so.

ahh, yeah that makes more sense. I know it's still early in the interview cycle, but there are several schools (e.g., tulane, hofstra, pittsburgh) that seem to have started sending II sooner than most other schools and thus seem to be booked through the end of the year already. Hopefully there are plenty more spots available. I don't believe I've seen anyone report a reject from Hofstra. Am I mistaken on that front?

A PSA to applicants from a current student. The school is being renamed to Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, as the health system is being rebranded Northwell Health. Don't freak out if people's signatures change or you get stuff from the new name. I'm not sure when it goes into effect though

Thanks for the update!

For anyone that has interviewed, did you end right at 2:00? I'm trying to make my travel plans back home - thank you!!!

How is it possible that interviewing later won't hurt your chances if it is rolling admission????? II today but Only 5 dates in Jan available. A little discouraged

Hello! I'm a current MS4 at Hofstra and wanted to clear up some of the interview questions, particularly since I know it's a stressful process all around. Interviews happen between September through January, and you can get an invitation to interview at any point during these months. While spots get full pretty quickly early in the cycle, as people start interview at multiple schools sometimes spots open up when students have to reschedule or cancel. This sort of shuffling happens at all medical schools. Anyone who is offered an interview can keep an eye on dates and reschedule to an earlier date if you'd like, but it really (honestly!) doesn't affect your admission chances because Hofstra uses a slightly hybrid system of rolling admissions. Bottom line - once you're scheduled you can move things earlier if a spot opens up and you'd like to, but it won't do anything to affect your chances of admission.

I hope this helps! As someone now in the process of applying for residency, I can say that I feel incredibly well-prepared and supported by my school. I can't imagine being as happy with my medical education anywhere else!

Not really. I got a reply saying it doesn't make a difference

What about a bribe? I can offer kittens and candy. No money though... I spent all that.

For some reason, opening my portal and seeing no change in my status is becoming less satisfying. I suppose I can just check less frequently...

Just received an II - OOS LizzyM 68 and complete 7/29 - so those of you who have not heard back yet, don't lose hope!
Congrats! Are you by any chance a high MCAT/lower GPA applicant? I just wanted to confirm/overrule the assumption that Hofstra likes that combo.

Thank you! I definitely overrule that assumption. 🙂 I have a below average MCAT and a decent GPA; however, I am a non-trad student with a lot of pretty interesting extracurricular activities/experiences so that may have helped a smidge.

yeah, i wonder what's going on. Maybe OP has a really awesome story and Hofstra is famous for choosing quirky/well-rounded applicants.

Lots of factors.. URM? Non-trad? This process seems to have no rhyme or reason so I have just been enjoying my freedom 🙂

I doubt it's urm. I am urm and I don't have any interviews yet. I applied to hofstra 8/30. however, my stats are only middling. 3.5, 29/29/515, so that could be it.

Who knows.. only speculation. Unfortunately med schools get to do pretty much whatever they want during the app process/reviewing process

Either way, congrats @systoleasystole !

I'm interviewing tomorrow. For those of you who already have (or current Hofstra students), is the med school pretty easy to find once you're on the main campus? Would you suggest getting a rental car or just getting a cab?

Thank you so much for clarifying! I cannot wait to interview here

Submitted July 2, complete July 7th, heard nothing. Should I be concerned/call them? Do they do silent rejections? Really in love with Hofstra so hoping for answers

Has anyone looked at the old threads to see when they stop interviewing?

Does anyone know how long interviews run? An hour or half an hour? 🙂

They run approximately half an hour each. I'm sure this is different for everyone, but my interviews weren't conversational at all. They were both very structured ethical/behavioural questions

Oh wow, I saw from a few other people that their interviews felt a bit more conversational and relaxed. Guess it's definitely just going to vary by interviewer!

Haha yes that's what I heard from previous interviews (that they would be more conversational). So I was kind of surprised about mine.. But my interviewer warned me beforehand that it was going to be a series of structured questions, she hoped that would give everyone a fair shot at representing themselves. I guess it wasn't so bad 🙂

Hey all! Is anyone interviewing here on Monday 11/9? Looking into booking a hotel room for Sunday evening and would love to split the cost with someone if you're interested. Also if anyone knows cheap places to stay in the area, I'd love to know. Thanks!

From last year's thread, it looks like Hofstra doesn't send out any rejections until late November.

Yup, that was very different from my experience. Interesting.

I absolutely loved this school.

Does anyone know what proportion of interviewees are accepted?

I would imagine that a mid-tier private MD school like Hofstra would probably accept many more people than it has matriculants. Low-tier private MD schools know that their ideal applicant may not get into many other med schools, and not accept a large excess over that which they can take. High-tier schools know they are people's top choices and not accept a large excess either. The student who gets into Hofstra, on the other hand, probably has acceptances at their state schools, or a low tier private MD, or the other mid tiers, or maybe even a high tier. Hofstra will have to compete with all of those acceptances, many of which it will be more expensive or newer than. They'll have to accept more students.

do you think people will cancel an interview here if they get accepted somewhere else on October 15th? I'm trying to move my interview up to mid november.

Wondering about this too... But I'm nervous about losing my spot and then ending up with a later interview :/

same...but mine's in January...so any later wouldn't make much of a difference at that point I feel.

I think someone earlier in the thread mentioned that last year they had an interview invitation wait-list, so it seems (to me at least) that they clearly expect a lot of interviews to be canceled later in the cycle.

Anyone have any interview tips?! I'm interviewing on Monday and am pretty nervous! :/

My student host told me to leave an hour early because it's not as easy to find as you might think and I think it's true. Once you get on the main campus, you can drive along the "main road" that runs through the campus and there will be a sign that says "school of medicine". I missed it, and then used the map on their website to find where to go. Go early and look at their website once you're there and it'll help a lot.

How did you go about finding a student host? I don't see an option for that on the website. Did you call the school? Thanks!
