It really depends. It could be even tomorrow or a couple of days later which could possibly mean acceptance. From my understanding, applicants who are informed a couple days later may get an acceptance or waitlisted (one person on here got waitlisted when informed to call them) However, in my case, you can possibly wait for a month and then some since they are considering me for the parp program. Regardless, good luck. Patience is the key....although at times I tend to forget the meaning at times. Lol

When did accepted students get interviewed? Trying to see where they are in applications

Thought I'd jump in the convo. April 27th probably won't be the last day (although don't hold me to it). They had technical problems early in the application cycle which delayed when they started handing out interviews for about a month or so. Because of this delay, they have been holding interviews more frequently (it may not seem like it but trust me when I say that the number of people you see posting on here is a small fraction of those who are applying to HU or any medical schools for that matter) and will most likely continue interviewing until May. I have people in my class who interviewed in May soooooo don't give up hope yet. Wishing you all the best. =)

Wow when did you get your out of committee email? so I interviewed mid March. I'm guessing i wont hear back till mid may.

@varens1 didn't you interview late March and u just got you out of committee email so your decision is coming soon??
I interviewed march 23 and got out of committee email yesterday so I'm hoping to get s decision soon cuz I need to start making plans as in where I'm going. It takes time to find appartments and all the paperwork. But yeah. I'm hoping to receive a decision soon.

Can you please tell us when did you submit your secondary application? I want to get an idea of how far the school is reviewing apps based on the date of secondary app submissions. They said that they will review my application again 🙁 I am trying to call the school and speak directly with someone from the Office of Admissions but nobody answers...

For those of you still awaiting the "out of committee" email, the committee meetings are usually held on Thursdays. Yesterday's committee meeting (4/7/2016) was cancelled by the Administrator, and an extended committee meeting will take place next Thursday (4/14/2016). They are currently "two months behind" - whatever that means - and have about 80 interviewee packets still to review at this point. However, there are "still plenty of seats". Typically what happens during the committee meetings: once an interviewee's packet has gone "out of committee", Sharmon starts "churning out decision letters" and will begin notifying prospective students once their "decision letter has been signed". The decision is not official until it has been signed by the Dean of Admissions, but students can contact Sharmon directly to learn of their "unofficial" decision. Sharmon's contact information can be found at the link below, but please be advised that "due to the crush of applications", they have very limited calling hours restricted to Monday, Thursday and Friday only.

Hi, when is the last day for interviews? I contacted the Office of Admissions by email and they say that they will review my application again. At this point, I do not know if I have any chances...

Yeah they are separate. The college of medicine's financial aid office number is 202-806-0699. The financial aid Director's name is Dr. Rozanna Aitcheson her email is [email protected]. She's pretty accessible and good at picking up the phone and answering emails.
Do you have a different number for them? It always goes to dialtone when I call.

Is Howard a type of school that would put more emphasis on post bacc grades? I have a bad undergrad gpa but my post bacc gpa is 4.0 with a decent MCAT score.

Yes it is 507, to be exact.

very nice!! you should be fine...just make sure your EC's/recs are good and align with the mission of serving the underserved. Also explain why u want to work with underserved in ur secondary and during the interview. your gpa needs to be above a 3.0 science and overall to be safe for their screen. and if you are in the area...it wouldn't hurt to attend one of their open houses.

I forgot to mention earlier that my cGPA is 3.1 but my sGPA is 2.98 with post bacc grades included. On MSAR I saw that they do accept students with below a 3.0 sGPA, but on their website, they said that they interview students with a sGPA 3.o or above. I would really like to go to Howard. I have extensive research experience as well as experience working with under served populations (Health Leads in Baltimore).

ok thats great! yea you should attend the open house then. do you have any science classes in progress that would bump your science gpa to a 3.0 by the time you send your app? I'm being picky about that bc *sometimes* they are....and it will prob help you get past screens at other schools too...

I can try, how receptive is Howard to online courses? I can enroll in one of the courses offered by Berkeley Extension or UNECOM. BTW, thank you so much for all the of replies and answering my questions, I really appreciate it! 🙂

for those that got into Howard and Morehouse, how are you going to decide between the two? Basically, what did you weigh when deciding between the two?

I decided on Morehouse, because although Howard is more prestigious, comfort is king. My house is 3 miles from the school, which ends up being a 4-5 minute commute. My whole support network, friends, and family are in Atlanta. Both programs have the same perks, being HBCU, and highly dedicated to getting their student's through. It came down to what would be better for comfort. I would have to sell/rent my home, find a new place to stay/dorm it, and move from Atlanta. Money is the same at both schools, but living in Atlanta is more affordable. That sums up why I choose Morehouse. Would have loved to go to Howard though...

Any one receive any "out of committee" and/or decision emails today??

Have you tried contacting sharmon or ms walk to get the unofficial decision?

No I haven't. Judging by the fact that a lot of people here have been saying it's hard to get a hold of them. Plus I'm not sure if they'll give me the decision over the phone ? I'm not sure how long it takes for a letter to be signed.
