2015-2016 Johns Hopkins University Application Thread

So I have a question: how did everyone go about picking a student host? I know none of these people, and it seems like only a handful of undergraduate schools are represented (which of course does not include mine).

I pretty much just picked randomly amongst the male first year students. All students on the list have volunteered to be hosts so I'm sure they're all great.

I picked someone who was from my home state, although she didn't go to my undergrad. I would recommend staying with someone who has something similar to you because that way it's easier to connect with them but also shows you how your interests can be aligned with the school.

But long story short everyone is super great at Hopkins! You can't go wrong 😉

Everyone who hosts volunteers for it, so they are happy to have applicants staying with them. As asquared mentioned, it's helpful to pick someone you have something in common with. There should be a column listing people's interests? If you have specific questions feel free to PM.

And a point of clarification, all of the official hosts are MS2s and above. First years cannot host through the admissions office, but applicants are of course welcome to directly contact MS1s (friends, mutual contacts, etc.) for hosting 🙂

Did it take anyone else a month for their application fee to be processed? I just got the update that my application is complete even though I submitted at the beginning of October :/

Is there a separate complete email they send out other than the "Thank you for submitting your on-line application to The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine" email?

II just now! Complete late august, assigned interview date next week. Do they always schedule so close to the invite?

The date they first give you is always really close. But you should call and reschedule if its inconvenient/prohibitively expensive for you to travel that day. The email sounds scary but it will be fine.

Thanks! I can make it, actually, I was just a little surprised given how far out some schools schedule. Really excited!

So just to recap: The submission date is different than the complete date, and the average application is marked complete ~3 or so weeks after submission (of secondary and all materials). And II time after officially being marked complete by the office occurs about 3-6 weeks... Correct?

I ask because I'd rather not hassle the admissions office with "why am I not marked complete because it's been a while" but am also acutely aware of the fact we are midway through November...

Correct. Although interview invite time could vary

521 MCAT (99th % if you don't know the weird-ass new scaling system), 3.90 sGPA, 3.75 cGPA, from a top 25 undergrad, decent amount of clinical and research experience but nothing too earthshattering (no publications, etc)

complete date?

Can you send any update to JHU? I emailed admission office and they said they don't accept any update after AMCAS submission.

Then why are you asking? You already got an answer straight from the admissions office.

Does anyone recall which day in December we hear back? If you interviewed in the first wave?

Remember them saying just mid December, not to expect it on any specific date. It has ranged from Dec 12 to Dec 18th or so in the past. Either way, coming up soon!

Okay. So this may seem ridiculous but I would like to submit my secondary today. I assume the deadline is midnight EST? Or was it last night? Thx all

Just got the complete email today from JHSOM. How long after that complete e-mail do people usually hear back for interviews?
