2015-2016 Quinnipiac University (Netter) Application Thread

Quick question for those of you that have interviewed already. I have noticed on the interview feedback page that this question has been brought up fairly often, and I don't know how to approach it. The question goes along the lines of "What is one thing, not on your application, you want me to tell the admissions committee?" I have been doing a lot of clinical volunteering that is not on my application, but I would assume this would come up at some point during the interview. Should I go with a more of a personal motivation response? Or stick with the big hole in my application that I have recently fixed?

Just talk about things that are important to you that aren't on your application. I don't think it has to be about volunteering/research/medicine related. Do you dance? Do you love running? I talked about a sport I do regularly that keeps me healthy and fit both mentally and physically. Their goal is to know who you are as a person. This means anything that is important to you is important to them.

You can also talk about what you value the most (religion, diversity, etc) and what you actually do to demonstrate that value (go to church, for example).

Thank you for the advice, so would something like this work? I've been cooking ever since I was a little kid with my grandparents, and it's something that I still enjoy doing today. It serves as my main artistic outlet; some people paint, some people sing, I cook. One thing I like to do is go up and down every aisle of the store and put whatever looks good in my basket. The random assortment of ingredients forces me to be flexible in creative when coming up with new recipes.

I would relate it to medicine or the school somehow. Like say that's a good way for you to take a break from all the stress of school and share your food with your classmates or something.

I think that's fine! @laud said to relate it to medicine, which you can do if you want. But if you think about it the rest of your application and interview is already about medicine. They know that you did all that volunteering and clinical work and did well in your premed classes and MCAT. Tell them about YOU. Quinnipiac seems to like applicants who are unique. If you had to add something, maybe talk about what cooking taught you that may be relevant to medicine, kind of like the creative thing you were talking about. Maybe working with ingredients taught you how to be careful and precise with your decisions. This, obviously, is an essential skill in medicine, as is creativity!
 
They asked me what I like to do for fun, too. So I would come up with a backup answer for what's the one thing that you want them to tell admissions.

Well my nickname in my fraternity is Dad because I'm always trying to take care of my brothers, I could always relate how having a paternal instinct is related to having a drive to pursue medicine 🙂
 
So those of you with II, when are you interviewing?!
 
So any advice on hotels from those you who have interviewed? I was hoping for a student host but that hasn't worked out. I'm interviewing this friday! thanks
 
has anyone who has interviewed sent post-interview updates? pretty sure they're receptive, but not sure if they've already met about me at this point...i interviewed the 21st.

Just to piggy back, what is the best way to do this (asking from a pre-interview pov here)? Through the portal or in an email?

I've been complete since july and havent gotten anything besides that email
 
Just interviewed here today. This is probably the most laid back interview I've ever had. They truly care about the students and have state of the art technology that I think rivals many other medical schools. Everyone really seemed to bond together and it was a fun experience for me. Shoutout to @B-wildered for taking me to my hotel and grabbing dinner afterwards!

Agreed! I'm really scared about hearing back now. I keep second guessing my interview, even though it was almost two months ago! Make sure to post here when you get your decision. Hoping the best for the both of us!

Yeah brah, it was my pleasure meeting you 😉.
I also had a good experience there and agree with @coldcase331 statement. The dean was super cool and genuine, and I appreciated that.

Will do! Yea I felt the same. I'm not too sure how my interview went because everyone else did well during the interview day as well. This is my top school so I'm hoping for some good news.

Did you (or anyone) by any chance call and ask admissions when exactly they post the first decisions? I believe last year it was the 16th of Oct.

I didn't call, but I remember one of the deans saying that my group would be informed "a few days within October 15." Since you interviewed before me, it's likely this applies to you too! I'm hoping it's the 15th, but possibly we may hear a bit after!

Haha but AAMC traffic rules! Seriously, though. They most likely already decided on our admissions at this point, since we interviewed in August! Just have to be patient now. 🙂

They talked about it on my interview day. They essentially pay for all your expenses 6 weeks prior to the start of classes to review essential back ground info like biochem. There's a limited number of available spots and it's meant for people that have been out of school at least a few years that need a refresher.

In my countdown to October 15, I went through the old Quinnipiac application threads to see when we could expect to hear back about post-interview decisions.

2014-2015 Cycle
First acceptance: 10/16
Latest interview that people heard back: 9/22

2013-2014 Cycle
First acceptance: 11/6

2015-2016 Cycle
First acceptance: 10/15 (hopefully!)

I guess we can expect to hear back on 10/16 if last year was any indication. 2013-2014 was only Quinnipiac's second application cycle, I believe, so the 11/6 decision date is not so surprising.

This is probably just wishful thinking, but October 16th was a Thursday last year, so maybe if they go by day of the week, it will be October 15th this year...
