I have really good lab skills and I often helped my classmates and even my TA with the experiments and procedures. Is all about writing skills and how creative you are IMHO. If I were you, I would say that I had to mold my approach to each student, had to lead by example, develop new techniques to fit one specific need, came up with ideas-suggestions that made the program-classes better ....yada yada yada. The YMCA is a non-profit organization which I think is worth mentioning.

Thanks @B-wildered. I was impatient waiting for a reply so I submitted already haha, but I actually did pretty much what you suggested. I figured either way, its not like they are going to throw out an application complete just because one of my answers wasn't exactly what they were looking for, especially since I had good stuff to list for all the other answers. Besides, stuff like ours probably stands out more than answers like "Pre-Med Club President" (not that there is a single thing wrong with that, just that more than one person probably had leadership positions similar to that).

rachiie01 I think you should consider Vermont still, maybe you could pm a current student on the thread and see if your situation is salvageable. It's worth a try--they seem like a cool bunch over there

This school was definitely a reach for me, so I was really surprised when I got the email. First thing I did was double check the ID# to make sure it wasn't a mistake! I guess this is proof Tulane really values ec's/commitment to serving the underserved.

Guys. It's still extremely early. I know it feels like you're left hanging out to dry because we come on here and see others with IIs, but you have to realize the sheer number of applications that are being considered. It's a long cycle and IIs may not come for months! Be patient, responses will come.

Same here. So the red exclamation point means the reviewer hasn't gotten to the application yet?
 
Is it bad to say that you want to attend a school because it is closer to your support system?

Same, this school was a reach for me too. I guess it was the underserved stuff that made the app work
 
From all the threads I am following, the people applying here seem to be more chill and cruise. I think this school truly value your "weirdness- differentness ". Becoming a doctor is so much more than being academically "smart". Just talking and relating to people is an art in itself . I've been shadowing this primary physician over 3 months now. I truly enjoy spending the day with him. It is like a journey every-time. Ex-convicts, drug addicts, lawyers, food lovers (diabetics), skin implants due car accidents, shingles, illegal immigrants, a pool table builder, retiree doctor, a high school girl who is pregnant and does not want her parents to know , a Vietnam war veteran who spent 10 ****ing years on captive before he was released, and so many more. I came to realize that being book smart and scientifically competent is a must for a doctor, however if you have a 35 in your MCAT does not necessarily means that you will be a better doctor someone who had a 29-30. Book worms in general have a really difficult time relating to people. Medicine needs people from all backgrounds, and having good stats is just a small piece of the iceberg, I think that Tulane takes in consideration that. Maybe it's why they gave me an interview. From all the threads I am following people are so hung up on the stats. I want to see if your 35 MCAT and 3.9 GPA scores - Lizzy score or whatever, are going to help you dealing with an agitated drug addicted patient, or a crying mother who just lost her daughter to an overdose of heroin. My point: there is so much more than stats. I understand that a lot of us may follow a path that may have lil or no patient contact, but most likely if your a doctor you will have to interact with your patient, and being able to connect with your patient and have him/her open up to you and tell his story is worth way more than any stats, when treating and diagnosing him/her. Anyways, if your stats are not that good it's ok. You still can become great doctor and some schools (not all) will see that. For me personally, the hardest part of these apps is to put down on paper "coherently" my past experiences, creative writing IS NOT my forte, even though I feel I have plenty of life experiences. Anyways this is my humble opinion.

Just by Curiosity, does anyone know how many interview dates were offered for September? and approximately, how many students do they interview per day? Happy Sunday everyone !! 🙂
 
Verified Friday, 2ndary in today, last letter should come thru Monday. Finally seeing some progress! Now to get my first rejection and hopefully II out of the way at some point in the near future

They interview about 20ish per day, if I remember correctly

Congrats on your II!!

Primary application sent 7.13 with all my letters attached. Submitted my secondary app on 7.22. My portal still shows a red exclamation point by In Progress, indicating my application is not complete. Anyone else in my boat?

I submitted the secondary on July 10th and I still have a red exclamation point. It's starting to seriously annoy me.

We are in the same boat. I keep telling myself patience is a virtue, but as the number of available interview slots diminishes, it gets more and more frustrating.

Perhaps it's because we took the new MCAT? Has anyone with a new MCAT received an II or rejection?
 
Anyone else like me who's had a GREEN check mark for forever? I've had it since about the July 6-10 timeframe, so it's coming up on a month now.
 
Bleh I want an interview invite already... The funny thing about the application process is that it requires the most patience but at the same time makes us the most.....impatient haha
 
Good. Knowing others are in my same position definitely helps.

I took an early administration of the new MCAT, FWIW.

Yeah, I already asked, and apparently people have. Emory hasn't even RECEIVED my scores yet, so...
 
II today! Complete 7/23. Grabbed the first available date in mid-November. Can't wait to see Tulane and nola!

Mine also has a red exclamation mark saying in progress, but to my knowledge this meant that they were deciding whether or not to give me an interview. Because the email I received said my application was complete and that the next email I receive will be once a decision is made on my application.

Maybe I'm being optimistic, but let me know what you think.
 
Oh interesting. Mine has been an exclamation point ever since i submitted on the 23rd. When i submitted my secondary on that day, i got this email from them

"This is to acknowledge that we received your secondary application. You will receive another email once your application is complete and under review. We thank you for your continued patience."

I have not yet, however, received a note that my application is complete. It's a bit surprising because it seems like it should be an automatic process, assessing if all the application pieces are complete. Sounds like we may be at two different stages in the process. Good luck to you and your review!
 
That's funny. I submitted my secondary on the 14th (complete date), got the green check marks across the board on the 21st, and still haven't received a completion e-mail. I'll take the silence over a rejection anyday.

That is very weird. 12 seconds after I submitted I got the completed e-mail. Maybe you could call them? Good luck I hope you get completed soon!!

I have the same status. I submitted July 14. I took the MCAT in June so my score wasn't released until July 21. I have been assuming that they haven't updated my app with my score yet.

That's when i took my MCAT as well, so i'm assuming that's what the hold up is. Although it shouldn't take them this many days to synch the mcat scores up with our apps. Keep me posted on your progress.

I hate how the app specifically says to not call with questions about status of your application. But after reading all of these boards, it's clear that there are often a lot of technical problems...

I agree it seems like it takes way longer than it should. However, Tulane is not the only school that has not added my MCAT score to my app. I guess it is not as automatic as we would hope.
 
I took the MCAT in June too and submitted my secondary on July 20th. I received the email that my application is complete and under review on the 29th. They probably have uploaded your scores but your reviewer probably hasn't got to your application yet.

Super helpful, thanks for sharing. Hopefully I'll be getting a note in the next few days, then, saying my app is ready to review.

I bet it is. I also wrote about about 3 hobbies too, and I didn't go into that much details about them at all. I am very passion about all of them , especially the aquarium-keeping, the other two are sports. I have aquariums with exotic frogs, pet turtles and a bunch of exotic plants. While doing research I had to sacrifice and perform surgery in many; but many mice. I don't like to kill living things. I keep a couple of mice as pets, where I provide a very "nice life to them," to regulate my "karma". I just love all animals in general. However, I refrain myself to write about my passion for animals because people often ask me why I did not want to go to veterinarian school.

I wrote a paragraph about my three unusual hobbies with brief descriptions and got a II. So that might be a good way to go, not that the other way is necessarily bad.
 
Is there anyone else with an interview scheduled 9/17? Thinking of staying a couple days on Canal that week and I have a significant hotel discount I'd share.
