2015-2016 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've been "under review" for 3 weeks lol
Yeah, pretty sure you and I have the same reviewer. And our reviewer is so thorough that only one word is read per day. This is a quality assurance measure to make certain that each application is truly appreciated and allowed to sink in. Or maybe....nope, that's the only scenario I can come up with.

So just to be clear the red exclamation point means the committee is literally looking at your app as we speak?
Thats what i thought at first, based off what the admissions office told me. But then three weeks after i submitted my secondary i got an app complete email and that last red mark turned green. So i think it means they have not yet marked your app as complete. Im not sure why bc some people get the complete message right away after submitting. ..

@rachiie01 Your last post perfectly matches your avatar.

My boyfriend knows how excited I am about the possibility of Tulane so this morning he was speaking to me in a southern accent about crawfish and beignets. Nothing like some humor and silliness to get you through such an arduous process!

When were you complete mattman? Mid July? I feel the hammer coming...

I was complete 7/22. I hope its good news coming your way

Just got a rejection from Tulane. 3.99 cGPA and 518 MCAT. Should I be worried about something in my file non-academic related? A LOR or my personal statement?

Do you have any IIs yet? Or any other rejections?

No other rejections, only 1 II at Georgetown. A lot of schools I've applied to have been sending out IIs for several weeks.

I wouldn't be too worried about red flags if you have an II and no other rejections yet. Unfortunately schools can't offer IIs to everyone who is qualified and it seems like a lot end up looking for fit more than anything. You can always try and call to see if there was anything that stuck out.

I know Georgetown is as selective as Tulane, congrats of getting II. Don't worry about this "decline". It's all about fitting in with a specific school's mission and values...

You and I are in a very similar position. I have 1 II, 0 rejections, and a whole lot of silence. But, it's only August, and I'll take silence over rejections!

Rejections suck, guys. Thanks for the support. I've been looking at this figure and feel much better now.

I'm just worried that my one II is a fluke... aaah applications are driving me crazy

I got rejected here with a 3.92 and a 522 MCAT. I have 2 IIs and 2 rejections so far though, so I'm hoping the IIs mean there isn't anything *very* wrong with my application.

You absolutely shouldn't worry about the two rejections. I currently have 5 IIs, but I also have a rejection. I just assume the rejection means that my application was good, but I'm just not exactly the type of student that school is looking for.

I just wish they would tell me why I got rejected! It would help with the pre-med paranoia.

Is it ok to call schools and ask them why they aren't considering me? In a "What can I do to strengthen my application for next year?" kind of way?

So I have a quick question...

I submitted my secondary on 7/12 (letters received the next day) and have a green check mark next to the "in progress" line. I never received an application complete e-mail. Is this something I should worry about especially now that it has been a month since I submitted the secondary? Should I call the school?

Same here. I called the school a few weeks ago, they simply said don't worry and that your app is under review. Just play the waiting game

Yes, it's totally fine to ask. Keep in mind, though, that some schools will only provide feedback to applicants who were rejected post interview.

I totally understand the pre-med paranoia, but you have some IIs already and impeccable stats, so you can probably let go of some of that paranoia. Your MCAT score is the equivalent of 38 and their 90th percentile is a 36. You're just overqualified for this school. That's gotta suck if you feel like this school's mission was really aligned with your own. But then again, being over qualified for good schools isn't too bad of a position to be in. Now excuse me as i go back to my paranoia over not having heard from any of the 20 schools i've applied to! Good luck with your cycle.

You're right, I'm sorry if what I said came off as arrogant; my first two responses were rejections, so I panicked and assumed either one of my letters was negative or I messed up something on my primary. The IIs must prove otherwise. If I've been rejected due to my high stats, I don't have anything to complain about.

Anyway, I shouldn't be on this thread anymore. Good luck with your cycle as well!

Any TFA, americorp or peace corp members receive IIs this cycle? If so, could you please share your statistics?

PM me if you'd like more privacy.

Thank you!

I totally understand. And selfishly, i'm somewhat happy to hear that you suffer from the same baseless neuroses that i do. 🙂

I'm just waiting for my first II so i can also get affirmation that i don't have an unexpectedly negative letter or major mess up in my primary (although i did just yesterday discover a small error in my personal statement. ugh)

Incoming AmeriCorps! Complete 7/29, II on 8/10. LM~68

Browsing last year's thread it seems those service activities are pretty highly valued

Complete 8/3 and still silence + green check mark. No TFA/Americorp but app is focused on underserved

Hopefully you don't get any silent rejections...those are the worst. They make you really think about how you literally just gave them money and got nothing in return, not even a courteous "not gonna happen" email.

It's funny how rejection
Makes me curl into a baaaaaaall
And the fears that once controlled me
Came true after aaaaaall

Hahaha okay, I'm finished.
This is awesome! I figured you'd enjoy one that I found on an old thread:

My hair grows white as I'm waiting tonight
No acceptance to be seen
A letter of consolation,
And it's written... by the dean.

The waitlist's moving as it's whirling towards July
Off to SDN, let them know I tried

They'll let me in, they said to me
Act like this school was always meant to be
Intent, just sent, it's what I'll show
So now they'll know...

My portal just changed to that little green check on the last one this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed! I want to go back to the city where I grew up!

But what does the green checkmark mean....

Mine changed from red to green over the weekend. I really hope I get some news soon! Was complete on 8/5.

Just submitted my secondary- Hope I'm not coming to the party too late!

Check on the first pages of this forum. It might be that you are still under-review, and haven't voted on a decision. Good Luck !

I've gotten three emails the past ten minutes... On the bright side, I've finally found the motivation to unsubscribe to all the spam email lists I've accumulated over 4 years

I have done this religiously over the last few weeks. I feel a lot less loved now though because I never get emails

So glad I am not the only one who did this. I also turned off notifications for email on my phone. Limiting myself to one email check midmorning, one in the evening, and same with SDN..still silence all around for me.
