2015-2016 University of Iowa (Carver) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nada.... Oh man, January it is.
Wish this process was shorter but alas, will probably be in suspense until March. Goodbye for now, CCOM thread! May you all have a very happy holiday season. :hardy:

Does anyone happen to have those USNWR numbers for Iowa? As far as Interviewed -- Accepted -- Matriculated for OOS ...

OK, so here are the numbers. They only interview 12.75% of the OOS applicants. They accept 1/3 of the people that they interview.
That's pretty low in general, but higher than I expected tbh

If anybody is interviewing on 1/4 and is going back to the Cedar Rapids airport after the interview, let me know. Thanks!

Does anyone know if OOS students can pay in-state tuition here following their first year? I know some other schools let you do that

Does anyone know when/if they begin rejecting interviewees? I interviewed 10/12 (OOS) but still haven't heard back. I was wondering if they move everyone into final pool mid January or if they begin rejecting people at some point. It would be comforting to know my application is still being considered rather than being thrown into final pool just because 🙁

Based on previous years there are a few more acceptances around January 15th. Then the next decision is made in March. After that they fill from the waitlists that are separated by IS and OOS.

Thanks I appreciate the response!

FWIW when I interviewed in mid November, I was told "not to think about hearing back" until January. Most of us were out of staters as well, which could have had some significance. but they told us that we would absolutely not hear back until January/mid-January.

Got an II today! Any idea how full the class is? I think I'm an in-state applicant....but I'm not totally sure

If I recall correctly, Carver College is done with interviews by the end of January. It looks like several people received II's today. For those of us who have not heard anything yet, does that mean we'll very likely be rejected? Have they already sent out rejections pre-II?

@medicinavida may I ask if you're IS or OOS? Thanks

How long has it taken people to hear back? I realize some people interviewed months ago and still haven't heard back, but typically, how many weeks?

It seems like 4 - 6, but if you are final pooled, however long until the middle of this month.

Final pooled is basically a final review. They pick 2/3 of the class from the final pool. Your result is either rejected, accepted or waitlisted in March. They separate IS and OOS and rank the waitlist so you know exactly where you are at all times. Basically they take all that are left that they interviewed and review them for a final decision.

I got an II the other day and applied as in state but I'm not sure if I'll be considered an in state applicant. When are you interviewing?

I signed up for 1/13. The only other date available was 1/8.

If I am interviewing in January, am I pretty much interviewing for a spot on the waitlist?

No, a spot in final pool. You will be compared to al candidates that haven't already received acceptance yet, broken into IS and OOS. I say good luck now but I may want to hate you in March.

OK just now OOS II Sunday night, after 6 months of silence. Will sleep on it and decide if I want to attend it. No IS option after one year, like Ohio State, and not sure if I am eligible for merit aid. I will think about it tomorrow.

Ah I see. Haha thank you and best of luck to you 🙂
This late in the game though, are there still OOS spots left?

Did everyone receive their II via email or the portal? I've also heard nothing but silence since July. :bored:

So if you have your interview in January, there is no chance that you will hear back until the final pool decision?

I just rec'd an II Sunday evening after silence since July via email. Directs you to the portal, which now has an interview tab.

Are any accepted students able to access the pre-M1 course on ICON? It seems I have not been automatically enrolled, and I don't know if this is because they haven't made the course yet or because there has been an error.

I haven't been able to see anything on ICON either. I'm also not able to set up HawkMail yet, has anyone else?

Well, after completing my file on July 23rd and hearing nothing but silence since then, I received a rejection letter today.

anyone know when final pool notifications go out?
To echo midwestisbest, I predict next Thursday after a final batch of rolling acceptances on Tuesday. Almost done rolling and into the pool we go...
