2015-2016 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
"If you are a re-applicant, please describe if you have made any significant changes or improvements from your previous application (200 words or less)."

This is more directed to the dean on here. It says not to disclose grades or MCAT scores above the essay, but can part of my answer to this question say that I significantly improved my MCAT scores without listing any numbers?

Is anyone else unable to access the portal once they have submitted their secondary? Most schools have a status page where you can see what the school has received and what remains, but I can't seem to find anything like that on WFSM's portal.

There are two separate links, the very first one sent via email is for status check, the other link is just to complete the secondary.

Oh thank you! I forgot about the first email they sent.

Got the "application received" email just now at 9:15PM central time...either it is automated or they have some dedicated staff over at Wake Forest haha

Just got notified that my application was received today, with the accompanying link to check status. Verified July 13th, so it took about two weeks. Hopefully a secondary is to follow, but the status said that could take another 1-2 weeks :S

I just received the same email and I was thinking the same thing! Hopefully a secondary application is soon to follow, I'm extremely excited to hear back from Wake. Best of luck to everybody!

+1! Can't wait!

My application was marked received July 15, and I got the link to the secondary this morning although the link did not work. My AMCAS was complete early June... Good luck everyone 😀

I was beginning to think that I was screened out. Got the application received email yesterday.

Just got secondary! Got the application received email last night. As my only school that screens intensely I'm considering this a mini victory lol

Just got mine too. A little positive reinforcement goes a long way. I kinda like the fact that they give you a due date.

+1

Just got my secondary as well, was told they received my application last night.

I just got this and Mayo LOR request (their screen) within 30 minutes of each other! Both of the schools are a bit of a reach, so I'm ecstatic about it!

received secondary just now-- also got 'primary received' yesterday.. hoping to crank this one out fast!

When was your primary verified? I also received that email last night and I'm wondering if I should be expecting a secondary soon. I wasn't verified until July 21st though

If you submitted more than 2 LOR, did you just pick any 2 of the evaluators for the Evaluation Section? @Pathdocmd

Hey y'all,

I was wondering how long it took y'all to get a secondary from here? I was verified on the 23rd of July and am still waiting... =(

Took me about 3 weeks. I wrote them an email and got a reply that it usually takes them 2-3 weeks after they receive your primary to send you the secondary.

Got mine today, was verified 7/16.

What is the screen based on? How flattered should I feel? 😛

For the optional question about ties to North Carolina, can I talk about close uncle/aunt in Chapel Hill, and expand a little bit on how close I am with them? Or would this be a stretch and I shouldn't include this?

Family in North Carolina doesn't sound like a stretch to me.

I agree with Yolanda. Definitely mention it.

About 25% of applicants get secondaries so I it definitely is something good! And I don't think it is based on something discrete. I think they look at a good amount of the application as a whole.

Really? That's awesome if that's true. Where did you get that number?

This is from the second post on this thread. I swore someone came on more recently and gave exact numbers (I think pathdocmd did but I cannot find the post)

Q: Does Wake screen applications pre-secondary? How many students make it to each stage of the application process?

A: I don’t have the exact numbers in front of me, so please don’t quote me on these numbers – I’m going to estimate. Wake receives over 8,000 applications each year, and roughly 2000-2500 students receive secondary applications. From these group of applicants that complete secondaries, we interview around 500-600 applicants. From the 500-600 who interview here, roughly 250 will go on to be accepted.

Ugh I just reviewed my already submitted secondary and realized that all apostrophes and quotes have been marked as '?' instead. I can't remember if it was this thread or another school but do you think Wake is aware of the formatting issue? It showed up fine when I copied and pasted prior to submitting and I just noticed it on my app now 🙁

This was in the e-mail for the secondary invite:

There is a formatting issue with copying and pasting essays from other programs. If you see upside down question marks in your essays after you have saved or submitted your application, we are aware of the issue and it will not go against your application in any way.

The number of secondaries sent is higher than 25%.

Just got an e-mail saying I was complete. I believe I submitted my secondary 7/23.

After submitting the secondary, we shouldn't expect a 'secondary recieved' email, right? I hate not getting any confirmations :/

I don't think I got anything after I submitted my secondary but I did get an email telling me that I was complete.

DREAM SCHOOL. Received the secondary this morning, better believe it will be submitted by tonight! Anyone else just LOVE the idea of Wake Forest SOM?

Submitted today, really hoping to check out the hospital and school. Never been to NC but I heard it's beautiful!

Looking at other threads, you seem to have a lot of 'dream schools'...lol
Do people usually mean their top choice when they say dream or is it just a school they're really excited about?

@HybridEarth NC is amazing. I moved from the north about 10 years ago and I absolutely love it. Winston-Salem is an awesome town to be a young adult or to raise a family in - the arts community is fantastic and there's plenty of culture/diversity. I feel like the area has a lot of personality, if that makes any sense at all 🙂 plus, couple hours to the mountains, couple hours to the beach.... 🙂

So the prompt for the competency essay states that you shouldn't duplicate information from the secondary or your PS. So does this mean we can duplicate information from our primary application? Any thoughts?

You could repeat your primary, but remember that med schools get 1000's of applications each year. Would you want to waste their time by repeating yourself? There are 15 competencies in that list, I'm sure that you can come up with something new . And the fact that they give you 400 words means you could describe a specific scenario from an activity on your AMCAS that's not previously stated 🙂

True, I guess I just meant that the only examples I can come up with are from activities on my primary. I wouldn't write the same thing in the secondary but it would just come from the same work or volunteer experience I have on my primary. Just expanded upon.

in case you haven't submitted your secondary, just fyi that copy/pasting the essays into the box causes your apostrophes to turn into question marks >.< glad i checked.
