2015-2016 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just interviewed here and wow really impressed with the school and the community. Let me know if anyone has any questions!!!
Hey that's awesome! I have my interview early January. I know that they have 3 one-on-one interviews. Were they all with a faculty member or were some of them with a med student? And did they ask any questions about current events (health reform etc)? Thanks!

Congrats on your ii! They were all faculty members that were on the admissions committee. They invite six interviewees at a time. While a group of three go on a tour the other group of three will interview. There are three interviews in fifteen minute intervals so everyone basically sees the same interviewers. Hope this helps.

Mine was also with three faculty but they said that sometimes there is a student interviewer.

Congratulations all! Did you find out via email?

I forgot to mention that they did not ask anything outside of what was on my application. They based their questions off of what was on my secondary. It seemed like they just wanted to know who I was as a person. Just study up on your application and try to formulate your answers with the underlying theme why you are a good fit for wake forest and I think you will be fine.

Wow they got back you really quickly. Nice that they give us the date for the COA meeting
The consensus of the students that we spoke with were that they are extremely prompt about getting the decision out to you on the day that they promised. From our group that interviewed on 12/16, they told us to expect an email on Jan 13th (Due to the holidays).

To those of you that received interview invites, what did your portals say?

I received the "You will be receiving notification of your application status." status several days ago, but never got an email. I'm wondering if it's worth my time to call admissions or just expect this to be a rejection.

I stopped checking my portal. I just kept waiting. I got my II last week but I was complete in August so unfortunately I think you just have to be patient

I just got an email, no portal updates or notifications

Oh okay. Thank you for that information. I was really curious because my portal change came around the same time that others said their portals changed and that they received rejection emails.

We interviewed together!! I was the odd one out! But I had the same reaction-impressive, especially the new medical school building! I'd also be happy to answer any questions about the process! Feel free to pm me!

Has anyone heard the number of acceptances they've given out to date, or how many seats are left?

Thank you for posting this!! It's really good to know, actually as all of us are waiting for our grades to update, haha
I just sent an update this morning. Apparently they don't accept grade updates. They told me they deleted the new grades from the update.
Whew still in the "continued to be reviewed" group. Just gotta hold out till this semester's grades are posted so I can send that update.

Called just to quadruple check, the woman I spoke with on the phone stated they do not accept fall grade updates. I specifically inquired about master's program grades. A friend last year sent her fall transcript and said Wake was really receptive to it- perhaps they were flooded with updates and changed the policy? Wondering if it would hurt my application to send the transcript anyways? My status is still the "continuously reviewed…" seems they would want our grades for the next review to help with the decision for a II. Any insight or even speculation appreciated!

If you called and they specifically said "we do not accept grade updates" ... then I would NOT send grade updates regardless of what they are.
Especially because you called and confirmed.

any word on when the new med education building in innovation quarter will be completed by?

Hey guys, I have an interview in January and I wanted to see if anyone could comment on what time their day ended and how long it takes to get to the airport? I'm trying to see if a 5:00 pm flight from GSO is too risky.

Interviewed 12/16, got out around 3:15 got to the airport by 4:05, and was in front of the gate by 4:50, i had a rental that i had to return and there was no line at the check in. If you uber or find a ride i think its doable at your own risk.

II just now! Submitted early September, complete October 12. All of you still waiting, THERE IS STILL HOPE!!!

I've got all ten of my fingers crossed as my dates are somewhat similar to those! Thanks for the encouraging update!!

"Your application is complete and will be reviewed continuously throughout the interview season. "

Ugh does this mean they looked at my application, decided its not worth an interview right now, and are putting me basically on hold? 🙁

I have this status as well and I don't think it means you're on hold. I think it means that the school has all the materials they need in order to review your application and therefore, are in the process of doing so. I could be wrong though, so if anyone is more knowledgeable about this, feel free to correct me.

II today! Complete 9/9, OOS.
I think my update letter last week made someone there happy!
Congrats man! I might draft one up this weekend, though I'm not exactly positive what I need to update, I just want to use it as a way to show continued interest I guess. Stats/Available Dates?

Same here, should this be a letter reiterating our interest in the school or just purely an update letter (where we update the school on new grades, classes, activities, etc.)?

Congrats!! Someone correct me if I'm wrong though... I thought they weren't receptive to pre-interview updates?

Here is the reply I got when I sent a pre-interview update of grades only:
"Thank you for submitting your grades however we do not accept grade or coursework updates. Feel free to submit an update letter not including grades or coursework."

tl;dr: yes to updates but no grades/coursework.

Just got an II here as well, but could only schedule for late Jan.

You all think they're close to filling their class? In other words, you guys think these interview slots are mostly for the waitlist? Thanks!

I don't think so. I know people who interviewed previous cycles in late Jan and Feb and were accepted so I think there are still plenty of spots left

+1

I would like to know this as well if we should send an update letter on why we are interested in the school - thanks!

Quick Question:

So I'm a bit on the fence about submitting a pre-interview update letter/letter of interest to Wake, just because my assumption has always been that letters of interest are best sent after you've been to an interview and have been waitlisted. Since the best-written letters of interest involve the applicant discussing rather specific aspects of the school that they like, would writing a less specific pre-interview letter of interest potentially hurt my chances? I do quite like the school from what I've read and heard about it and would defs be stoked if they gave me an II.

Congrats are you IS or OOS?

I'm a legal resident of Alabama, but I am currently an undergrad at Wake Forest which I think definitely helped my chances. I scored a 512 on the MCAT and my GPA at Wake is a 3.4 (science GPA around 3.5). I had strong extracurriculars / leadership positions on campus, lots of research, and good rec letters. I have very little clinical experience which I know has hurt me at a lot of other schools, but I think my letters of recommendation from Wake Forest Faculty (including a letter from a lead researcher at the medical school who I did research with) helped tremendously.

For those who've gone to interviews here, is there a room in which we can leave our purse/jacket/luggage while we interview? Don't want to bring these items into the interview room itself. Thanks in advance!
