2016-2017 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You and me both lol Congrats though; I wasn't expecting any feedback so soon 🙂
Thanks man you too! But yeah it was really nice to get such a quick response. I just hope they don't keep us hanging forever

does anyone know if "hold" means waitlisted? I read that there was an "alternate list" from previous cycles but I haven't seen anything from this cycle regarding the "alternate list".

Saw a thread notification and new you'd get an ii.

This is my response:

Also, go for it! Never know.

And if not, I'll take the II 🙂

If I could, I would transfer it to you!

Hey all-

I'm a non-trad who applied late in the cycle. Completed my secondary application in early November. LizzyM is approximately 64, but GPA is probably a bit higher given that I received a 4.0 through my M.A. and Ph.D. programs. Is there still a shot? I'd love to get an II and get in this year.

Med schools don't usually care about graduate gpa. This schools median lizzyM is close to 65 and IIs are still going out.

This may be a dumb question but why does this school get so many applicants? They said it is 5th in the nation for applications received

For starters: Perceived proximity to a major metro, lower GPA/MCAT for matriculants
Rosalind is a charmer, though. My friend with a 34 MCAT was denied almost immediately. Always a mixed bag.

Going on week 13 after "complete" email. Is reaching out to admissions to say what's up frowned upon? I mean obviously they get a lot of applicants, but interview season is also rapidly coming to a close... thoughts?

I'm on week 18 of being complete, I called on Friday and they said they interview through April and I will be notified upon a status change... so just hang tight is my advice!

Has anyone been offered a scholarship at this school so far? If so, how much of the roughly 70K per year will it cover?

Do you know if you need to fill out all of the financial forms in order to be considered for the scholarship?

I have no idea. Their website didn't talk about that. I'd didnt specify merit scholarships either.

I have not (not really expecting one either).
But I have gotten the checklist of Fin Aid forms to fill out and in the email was this bit:
Financial Aid Award Notifications
Student Financial Services will be processing financial aid requests in the order they are received. Financial aid award notifications will be sent out after April 22, 2017 to the e-mail address on file.
They also gave general advice about checking your credit, applying for outside scholarships, and budgeting. So....I'm thinking that nobody will likely have heard back about scholarships yet. (Unless maybe they're super-duper amazing rock stars and haven't been posting here.)

Damn is it true that Rosalind Franklin got nearly 16,000 applications this year? MSAR says around 12,000 but I've seen other posts saying 16,000. Nonetheless, it's still an insane number!

As someone with a small dog and a desire to live within walking distance of RFU (in an area that hopefully will be around other students) what are my options? Should I go for woodlands? Can I get on a waitlist even if I'm not sure I will be going here yet?

Also in case anyone is wondering, I looked and the rates are quite good for those woodlands apartments. $775 each for a 2 bedroom 2 bath is awesome. Hopefully a FB page gets put up soon so people can start finding roommates. I'm not 100% that I'll end up here but I like to plan ahead.

I know the Woodlands allows pets, and you can get on the waitlist as long as you're accepted.
Earlier in the thread, there were some mentions of other places (Navy Housing, Deer Run (?)) that are apparently a bit cheaper, but I don't know if they're within (desirable) walking distance or if they allow pets.

They allow pets, and depending on the size of the dog may be a better option.

Depends on the size of your dog. If you have a huge dog, navy housing may be a better option.

Did you go to Rosalind? What is your opinion on their clinical rotations? Do people match well? What do you like about the school? what do you dislike about the school?

Among other things, I've had this to say in previous years:

As a current student at rfu, I'll say that we get a great clinical education rotating in a wide variety of hospitals and clinics, including county, VA, and private. The pre-clinical years are miserable, but for me, I would have been miserable during pre-clinical years at any school.

That all being said, our match list and the specific high quality matches we got are reflections of the hard work of individual students at our school, as they are at any institution. Our school does well in the Chicago area, and students who excel on boards and clerkships aren't limited.

I also was accepted at meharry, and I chose Rfums because of location and cost. Both schools, I would say, are of approximately equal caliber.

I think the easiest thing to do is go to the search bar at the top, type in "rosalind" to the search word, and type "tantacles" as the user. I'm feeling pretty lazy.

The match list should also be available to you if you interviewed, and I believe it's also posted online.

Can you elaborate on what made the preclinical years so miserable? During the interview day, I thought that the current students seemed relatively happier than the students at other schools that I have visited.
