2016-2017 University of Pittsburgh Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
does anyone know if we have to do anything to accept the offer? Also, if we fill out the terms and conditions for matriculation form are we locked in?

Called admissions this morning to ask about this. I was told that when you complete the forms it's just to hold the seat, but it isn't binding.

Any current students know the average Step 1 score at Pitt? Was just curious and couldn't seem to find any information online.

At my interview a student told our tour group it is usually 5-7 points above the national average and quoted 235 for the year before him and he was a second year.

I remember someone saying it was roughly 1 STD above average on my interview day, which should put it roughly at 239-240, but then I also heard conflicting information saying it's closer to the national average of 230, so I was pretty confused. Could be differences between the years I suppose?

Would really love feedback/info from current students as well!

Did you see PSTP II on your portal or email?

I got the II in an email. I checked the portal and it still says application under review.
For your information mine is in the month of March. They will reimburse generously for traveling. Meals and lodging provided. I hope that helps.

Has anyone gotten the physical acceptance letters with instructions for holding a seat?

Not yet. I called the office this morning to inquire about how to hold the spot and they said just fill out all the tabs/forms in the portal. No deposit is required at this point.

For people who sent updates/LOI this week, what email address did you send it to?

Just sent my love letter. Fingers crossed. Hopefully some good news in the next few months!

Same here! I also called to make sure they received it, and for anyone wondering, they let me know that the waitlists aren't ranked and that the admissions committee will be revisiting the waitlists in "early spring."

That's interesting that the waitlist isn't ranked. Not sure if that makes me feel better or worse.

wow that's over 2.5x matriculation class size...
I feel like that's reasonable. Pitt is in an awkward position ranking wise, because it's not a well-known name. It's a top school with top applicants, but because of it's position people choose other schools.

seems like the same pattern happens every cycle

Ha ha. I was just explaining this to someone. They aren't pre-med and I kept telling them how much of an awesome school Pitt is and they had no idea.

Yeah I got mine today too (OH resident). Pretty basic information (second look dates, white coat, etc). No mention of scholarship/financial aid but that could just be me.

What's in it???

Same, just dates for second look (April 6-7), whitecoat (Aug 13), info about pitt-med research experience for pre-matriculants (PREP), and how to accept offer (fill out admission data forms on portal)

Sorry if this sounds neurotic but I'm wondering if anyone received any reply confirmation email or something after sending in a LOI? I'm just tryin to be sure that they received mine lol

I am sure they did. I sent one last week and got so paranoid I emailed and was told they received it. My guess is that a lot of people are probably sending them stuff haha. If you are super paranoid you can send an email.

Thanks for the info! I think it's probably safe to trust that they received it 😛

I got the physical packet as well. Nothing about scholarship though...It seems like their scholarships are very competitive!
