2017-2018 Duke University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Another MS here stopping by to say hello and wish you well. I echo @JesusPiece that you can pretty much count on early March. Good luck y'all! And remember, Duke's great, but keep in mind that so are SO many other medical schools (like, most) in the country, FWIW. Regardless of where you end up, do your thing, follow your instincts, get some guidance, and you'll be able to do whatever you want. Individual effort trumps everything.

@JesusPiece and @peiwei789 Can either of you speak to what financial aid is like at duke? I’ve heard wildly conflicting stories, but overall I’ve heard duke is really generous.

MS1 - for need-based, they are bound by their formula based upon your EFC, but they were willing to work with me regarding which tax returns would result in the highest financial aid for me.

Also FYI to everyone, last interview is the 5th.

The 5th of February?!

@JeneralG see above. They are also generous with merit aid. If any of you is fortunate enough to have acceptances to multiple schools in a similar "tier" (USNWR, but also think reputation in medicine, however little these things actually mean in the end), be sure ask schools offering less to match schools offering more. Lots of advice on these forums on how to go about this!

Can someone link a forum that addresses this?

Unfortunately me, too...

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile
So weird, I spoke to admissions last week and was told they extended interviews into mid Feb, but I trust the current students on SDN... Moving on, I suppose!

why arent they rejecting us already if there's no more ii loll....

Checked my portal based on this thread... rejected. It had to be today or yesterday since I last checked all my portals on 1/30. No surprise here!

That MMI was the more stressful component of the cycle, imo.
Going to agree with this. Didn't go to Duke's, but the MMIs I did attend were ridiculous. I just hate them... you don't even have time to get comfortable with one interviewer before you have to move on to the next. Not my favorite thing.

Yep. It’s tough, considering a lot of schools (I’m almost positive including duke) have stress stations which are intentionally meant to stress you out. It’s hard to walk away from those!

I still haven't been rejected (per my portal) pre-II... some small part of me is hoping I could still be in the running for an II but I'm assuming that's nearly impossible now, right?

14 more days and probably six interview days left. At this stage we can only dream and hope for a miracle.🙁

I am honestly upset more about the time I spent on this secondary than not getting an II.+pity+

Sorry to crush any last minute hopes of getting a II, but the last interview is on Monday.

I called the office of admissions yesterday, and I was told that the last interview date is February 5th and all interview invites have been extended. It’s officially over.

Lets conduct our own MMI outside the duke Admissions office until the 15th
A woman has just had a baby. The baby was born with the appearance of an African American. Both the husband and the woman are Caucasian. Please enter the room and discuss the next steps with the woman.

Add this to your prompt list.

Lol we conduct them in like sketchy makeshift cardboard box rooms

Has anyone sent an update/letter of interest or letter of intent to Duke later than 1-2 weeks after their interview? I know the portal says we can only submit it within that time frame, but I have heard that Duke does one final read of our applications in February, so I was wondering if they would be receptive to one final letter (either update, interest or intent) now.

I asked about this as well as additional LORs recently and they said they don't accept them.

Same, part of me wishes they would reject me already so I cant stop wasting my time checking the portal.
