2017-2018 Quinnipiac University (Netter)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For all those who are reading this thread anticipating an answer and getting stressed that you haven't heard anything, I would like to say to keep patient. Right now I'm a medical student who, awhile back, interviewed in early October. However, I didn't hear an acceptance until sometime around January. There are things that happened in the background that are outside of our control when it comes to admissions, but until you hear one of the three final decisions you're not out of the running yet. So don't let others that have been accepted in your interview date stress you out because you still have a chance. For those of you who have been denied or waitlisted, know that Netter, and many other medical schools, are highly competitive and that it becomes a numbers game. If you've made it as far as the interview, you've achieved much more than many other people in the nation and deserve to get that far. Hopefully you will be accepted in other schools, and if not I know that it is not uncommon to apply in consecutive years. I was in that boat too, and feel for all of you but know that it is possible.

And of course congrats to those who have been accepted! See you all next fall!

Do any current students have input on what the schedule is like in terms of classes? How often are exams? Which specialties do you get to choose from in MeSh, and do you like the program so far?

Anyone complete in late August and havn't heard anything?
I submitted my secondary in early August, a couple days before August 10th, and I still have not heard anything from them. I was hoping for an interview invite since this is my second choice out of OOS schools. My LizzyM is 68.5 so I think I am academically qualified. There must something about my application that they are not impressed with. Maybe it's the lack of research experience. I just hope it's not the fact that I am from Texas. Albany rejected me fairly quickly and I thought that was because I am from Texas. Neither Albany nor this school have any Texas students in their school. I am really hoping they give me a chance though.

You definitely are qualified for both schools, and I don't think either is a research-intensive school. It's honestly hard to predict what schools like, especially when they're receiving so many applicants. My friend has a LM of 73 and got rejected by Albany, and already has an acceptance at Stony Brook (a much better school in NY). It's a long cycle, so hopefully you hear back from others schools and from netter soon. Praying for you bud! Chin up

In your first two years, you have class from 8 AM to 12 PM every day, which is a mix of lectures (recorded and not mandatory) and small-group events (mandatory). You'll also have class from 1-5 PM on Thursdays in most of your first year, and from October onward you will have MeSH on either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday afternoon. There is a summative exam at the end of each block, and blocks are usually about 5-7 weeks in length.

As for MeSH, you are placed into either a family medicine, internal medicine, or pediatric practice. The point is not so much for you to learn what a specialty is like, but for you to gain a good foundation in primary care skills and practice the clinical skills you learn in class on real patients. I personally find MeSH to be one of the best parts of my week, and it sets you up really well for clinical rotations and Step 2.

Is grading P/F ranked or unranked?

II today, but somewhat deflated after seeing how many they invite for so few seats. Does anyone who interviewed previously recall if they disclosed the number they plan to accept this year? Doing some rough approximate math from their past admission numbers places their post II acceptance hovering around 16-26% which, even though most institutes boast a low number and this is a << class size, seems somewhat absurd.

I wrote down the exact figures they quoted to us, so I can double check when I get home, but I seem to recall them telling us that somewhere between a third-a half of interviewees are accepted outright, and then of those not accepted, half are waitlisted and half are rejected. Does that sound about right to anyone else?

I don't remember being told but most schools offer 2-3x acceptances per 1 spot they want to fill. So for a class of 90, they would accept 180-270 people. I think they interview around 600 people so your chances are better than you think. I would estimate it slightly below 50%.

Anyone that completed here in early August get an interview invite? If so, then what were your stats ad when did you get the interview invite. I was completed on August 8th but haven't heard anything from them. Is it fair to assume that they have not gotten to interviewing the bulk of early August applicants?

I was complete 08/04 and haven't heard anything yet. LM 76 OOS

Well friend, you sure as hell will be getting an interview invite from here unless they practice yield protection. I was complete on August 8th and haven't anything yet so I was just curios. It seems to me like they are still going over late July applicants. So early August applicants are probably up next. Good luck even though your don't really need it.

Complete same date as you (8/8) and hoping for an II from them every day!

I don't think they practice yield protection...I feel like they truly view applicants holistically and take into consideration qualitative metrics

For the ones who received IIs and acceptances, did you guys state "primary care" as the answer to "What area of medicine do you envision yourself working in at the end of your training?" on the secondary?
I know that Netter is big on primary care but I chose to write about an internal medicine specialty because I was able to answer that more strongly...even though as of now, I have no idea what field I want to pursue.

I have been complete since 8/1 (LizzyM ~68/69) and I really like this school. I hope not indicating primary care did not hurt my already low chances.

I put emergency medicine. I wouldn't worry about it

I didn't state PC as my specialty of choice. Don't think it matters.

I put primary care but also wrote about how I am keeping my options open. I don't think they would discriminate based on what you put as your answer.

I stated Ortho on mine. Shouldn't impact your chances!

Went back and checked my notes from the interview. I underlined it three times because I was so surprised. We were told that 2/3 of interviewees will be accepted, and of the remaining 1/3, half will be waitlisted. So, if you've gotten an II, your chances of acceptance are good! They must hedge closer to 3x their desired class size, assuming that a lot of people will also get offers elsewhere.

Thanks a lot!

Congrats! What's your LizzyM. It sounds like they are now on August applicants and you are one of the first ones to get II.

Thanks! I was complete 8/8 so idk if it's that considered early or mid August haha. LM ~71 with no connections to the area. For anyone who wants to know, first available interview dates were in mid November

Do you think I would get passed over if my application emphasizes research? I have average amount of clinical/nonclinical volunteering (like the hospital, hospice, underserved populations etc., but nothing extraordinary) but over 3000hrs of research w/ pubs etc.. My LizzyM is low at 67 (515/3.3 with huge upward trend) but I am also instate (I know doesn't matter as much) and complete 7/31

Side note the dean worked with one of my rec letter writers when he worked at Yale so idk if that would help at all as I know the letter is very good

No, I have similar stats (higher MCAT) with about the same amount of research but no pubs and was accepted.

II OOS non-trad but went to Undergrad in CT. LizzyM of 68 complete 8/7

I was complete on August 8th. Sad to see them just skip over me. I was really hoping for an interview invite here.

I just received an II today and am trying to book my trip there (from LA). For those who interviewed- did the day go for 6 hours or did you end sooner than that?
Plus, can you give any insight about your experience?

The day did go for the entire six hours. Out of all the interviews I've been to, this one was the most relaxed and everyone was extremely friendly. I wouldn't worry about this one!

Has anyone been rejected yet?

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile
Oh yeah--rejected post-interview this morning. I have my heart set on another school I interviewed at and I'm not sure that I'm the type of candidate QU seeks, but still would've liked better news!

Really hoping this one works out for me! IS, CT undergrad, LM 66, extensive FQHC service in Connecticut, complete 08/29, and strong interest in community health (primary care/psychiatry).

Haven't heard back from QU yet.
