2017-2018 Quinnipiac University (Netter)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Front page of the Quinnipiac website:

"The Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine is unique. At most medical schools, the intense needs of conducting research and generating income directly compete with delivering a thoughtful, first-rate education for medical students. Here, our singular focus is your preparation."

Still somewhat apprehensive about it lol...
They've posted to YouTube about research opps for their students though:

So maybe their message is, we don't distract ourselves with research so that we can focus solely on teaching you, but it's cool with us if you want to do research at another venue. ??

Thanks for the link.. hopefully everything works out.

Hi! I was wondering if you could give an overview of the interview day?
Sure. There were nine or ten candidates. The morning consisted of some presentations about curriculum and financial aid, followed by lunch with medical students. After, there were two ~45 minute interviews. The interviews were open file, standard questions (no ethics or out of left field questions), and friendly in nature. After the interviews, we all had an extremely pleasant group meeting with the dean. Finally, there was a student led tour of the facilities (gorgeous). I've interviewed at six schools now, and I can honestly say this had the nicest facilities, friendliest personable staff, and warmest and happy student body I have encountered. In no way should this be considered a "safety school". Many of the professors are from Yale, all of the instructors are carefully vetted, and have a 100% commitment to teaching (no research obligations). The school match list was also quite impressive, particularly for a newer school (Yale, Brown, Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth, UCSF, UNC, ortho, derm, etc). If you are receiving an interview, they are serious about you and everyone has carefully read every aspect of your file. Don't be surprised if you get called out by name several times throughout the day to talk about something in your file. All in all, very low stress interview day.

Just want to weigh in and say that everything you said is completely true! I have been to a few interviews and this school has left the best impression by far! Top notch facilities, extremely friendly admission staff and happy and warm student body. Would definitely love to come here (if accepted of course). Definitely holding my breath for this one around Oct 15!

Working on this secondary now. Any advice as to which questions I should pick? The whole chose 3/5 thing is messing with my head. Is it just a matter of what we think we can answer the best or do they seem to prefer applicants who answer certain ones.

I answered all of them and then chose what I felt were my top 3 responses to submit.

I wonder why you would even think this.. Its not a test. Just answer the questions.

7/21. Anyone that has interviewed here thus far have any advice or comments in general? Very excited to be returning home to CT.

They really try to make you feel relaxed and stress free from the moment you walk in. The interview was laid back and conversational, I wouldn't worry much about it

Did you already submit it? I interviewed here and I can tell you that they don't do research on campus at all & they are very focused on training primary care physicians. I think what you wrote is great but I'm not sure if the Netter people are going to like it! Fingers crossed for you though

Many current students are also involved in research at nearby hospitals and schools.

Congrats! If you don't mind, can you say if you are ORM / URM? Thanks. And best wishes for the interview.

Not URM, idk what ORM (over represented in medicine) lol that is correct.

Thanks biochem406. My question though was for Jerry since my LizzyM is close to his and I am ORM and wanted to evaluate my chances. Best wishes for your interview.

Just an FYI: I contacted the SDN MDApplicants people and they have added Quinnipiac as a school so if you are using the MDApplicants tool may be worth adding the school. That is all.

Anybody know the exact date when they will let us know? I probably shouldn't get my hopes up thinking it will be on the 16th.

Actually the graduating class had 21% go into surgery (gen surg, surgical urology, etc), 22% into EM, etc. Their goal would be more primary care, but the reality is that they expect 12-20% of their students to go into primary care. Hope this helps. Also, there is a newly constructed research building on campus for bench research for those who want to focus on that! There are numerous options for research with affiliated organizations for those who want it.

Are we thinking they will start notifying us today? I think last year it was October 18th?

Last year it was Oct 18th, which was a Tuesday, but is a Wednesday this year. I want to say Dr. Yeckel said probably not Monday, but I can't remember. Was so long ago. Haha. I'll give it a couple more hours, but if nobody has heard yet this morning or afternoon, I'm guessing not today... Another sleepless night to look forward to. Lol.

I got my interview invite from them around 5:00pm, so I am thinking they'll do the same with acceptances... one of these days....
I also thought he said he would be calling before the emails go out, so "look for a 203 area code". Could also be in my head, but if it's true, they might trickle in.

Oh god didn't know they can call too! I thought it was just email haha

Aaaaaa I feel like I can't wait much longer. I'm tempted to call admissions and ask them when the decisions are coming out, but I don't wanna look like the impatient neurotic premed that I am.
Someone called to ask last year or the year before, and they did give them an answer. (I've been neurotically stalking previous years' threads.) So if one of us wants to take one for the team...
