2017-2018 Rosalind Franklin University

Does anyone know if the medical school campus is in downtown Chicago? If not, how far from the city?

It is not by downtown, sadly. It's in North Chicago (which is actually a suburb). It's about an hour from downtown Chicago with no traffic, but took me about 90+ minutes to drive from the a little south of the Loop. However, apparently there's a Metra that you can take from the city --> CMS

I see. Trying to gauze how many students successfully matriculate into the M1 class after completing the SMP program/how strong the linkage is!

From my understanding, you are guaranteed an interview. If you are accepted, it's conditional so you still need to get A's/B's in your classes. Hopefully someone who was in the BMS program has more insight.

What impressed you guys the most? Just curious what my fellow interviews liked the best
One of the things I liked best was the variety of clinical sites. On the interview day, I also loved that we got to speak with M4s. that hasn't happened anywhere else for me

Also I would love to hear about clinical research opportunities here. I think I read that there're more wet lab research opps at Rosalind Franklin, but how hard is it to get involved with clinical research?

Also does RFU have their own affiliated university hospital?
No they don't

Has there been any decisions recently? I saw one post II rejection last week, but nothing else for Oct/Nov.

I'm expecting the next round of decisions either this week or next as I'm assuming the adcom will meet before winter break

Would they still send out emails during their winter break? Theirs is Dec. 18-Jan 1st.

Anyone know if they send out decisions for multiple interview dates at the same time? I interviewed on 11/10 but I haven't seen anyone 10/27 post any results yet, don't wanna get my hopes up if I'm going to have to wait until January.

They have in the past, I think, sent out decisions for multiple dates.
They told 11/10 that decisions would be out in 4-6 weeks, waiting until January would be around 7-8 weeks so I think they'd release those decisions this week.
That's just my optimism though 🙂

That's what I'm hoping, but IDK if they counted Thanksgiving week as a 'work week' that goes towards that time frame.

II 11/10 as well and I'm just expecting to wait until January. But maybe we'll get a pleasant surprise!

Wellll people complete after me are getting II's, so I'm assuming I'm going to be waiting to get a rejection in a few months. Au revoir CMS

Yeah I remember they said to email if 6 weeks goes by without hearing anything but there's no way I'm gonna be the one to send them an email 3 days before Christmas, lol

10/27 has not heard back. They release multiple dates based on the past. Just relax. You can call or bother them, but it won’t change the result or when you’ll hear back.

Wasn't planning on calling them, just polling the group to see if anyone knew. That's the whole point of this board, right?

What dates were interviews who haven't heard back yet? I only ever see people from 10/27 or 11/10 posting.

They say that they do interviews every ~2 weeks with 3-6 week turnaround, so people that interviewed in early October would theoretically have heard by now

Haha "theoretically"

Everyone after 10/27 is waiting. The Adcom probably meets soon and everyone after that will be notified of a decision. That’s how I imagine it working. Seems to make sense

Complete 7/25 with letters of rec in 8/3 and just got II as well! OOS rural white girl.
Cancelled my interview - Chicago is like a 7 hour drive, the school won't release any info on M1/M2 schedules because they are changing the curriculum (which I don't want to be a guinea pig of), and the chances of me matriculating are really low based on what MSAR says they usually have for a class in regards to age and ethnicity. My interview was 1/5 - hope it gets to one of you people waiting since August!

I’m thinking of declining my II for similar reasons (though on my case, nowhere near driving distance). I haven’t fully decided yet though, so tough to think of declining and I know it could be different once I’m there and I might totally love it, but I can prob only afford one more interview trip so gotta make some tough calls. Wish I had a crystal ball. I’m sure we all do.

MSAR info for those asking:
94 OOS matriculants/610 OOS interviews
97 white, 76 asian ..
67 people ages 19-23, 111 24-29, 13 are 30+
101 women, 90 men, 39% with a graduate degree
Statistically, I probably won't end up with an acceptance here, and I already have one where I currently attend undergrad so I will just stay here for convenience.

Also, at my interviews elsewhere, I have met M3's or M2's who were the first for a curriculum revamp and it didn't go so well for them.

Many of these things, including tuition and living cost, give me the idea that I won't end up at this program (in addition to me never living in a city above 80,000 people before)

Most medical schools don't send II by order of completion.

I have II on Feb 2nd morning. Will be getting there a day early. Anybody willing to split the cost of the days inn motel. Please PM me. Also I am male.

Why are they just sending out post II rejections? Do other schools send rejections and acceptances out separately?

historically it looks like RFU does it like that for some reason

Where did you get that from? Are waitlists and offers at the same time?

Probably no point in analyzing it but why not ??

Skip the days inn and go the one right next door, it looks way nicer and newer. The days inn "breakfast" was appalling, make sure you hit the McDs next door for breakfast.

Thanks I will look into it. Is it sleep in?

Yes, it’s right next door, as I was pulling in I thought “crap, why didn’t I just stay there” lol. One thing you should check is the shuttle though (days inn its just a dude in a random car)

Interviewed 10/27 and silence since. Expecting a no since it’s been this long. Any insight out there?

Waitlisted - interviewed in early Nov

It's normal. They just take a long time to review apps. Your interview group and early Nov. should hear back this week or the next since the last time decisions were released was end of Oct.

Is this basically a hold email? Just got it.
