2017-2018 University of Iowa (Carver)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For the sake of variety, it should be noted that many students live outside of Iowa City in Coralville and even North Liberty. Many students study elsewhere besides MERF and the library.

If you live further away from campus what is the best way to commute? Is there a parking lot you can drive to and take the campus bus from there?

I think as a medical student you could get a pass to the Finkbine Lot (Lot 65) and they have buses that go between the hospital/ medical campus every 15 minutes until like midnight or so. I’ll double check and edit if it’s incorrect.

Correction: It’s Lot 65. Google UIowa Parking Map, you’ll see where it’s located.

As already mentioned commuter lots are available. But, it depends how often you want to attend class. Most of the time you only have to be on campus a few hours. Some people stomach the cost and park in the newton ramp for a bit. Some other people park on side streets and take the bus. I also have friends who park in the public health lot for free after 4:30. Some have a pass for the hancher lot and walk like 10 minutes. You can park for free in the dental lot if you leave after 9:00. There are tons of options.

The dental lot trick was key when I knew I’d be studying late at Hardin. Good advice!

Last year around this time, emails went out on a Wednesday. Who knows if that's an indication of us needing to wait until tomorrow. Hope not.

I don’t think today is the day. I think the portal would have changed to “uploading decisions” by now, and it hasn’t. I hope I’m wrong but maybe tomorrow if I’m not.

I am guessing if the portal hasn't changed to "uploading decisions" by 3 CST, then it will probably be tomorrow.

Wow, really thought today would be it. A bundle of nerves all day waiting for decisions to be posted, and then...nothing :boom:

This is beyond stressful. Continual F5
They probably finish around 5pm (just a guess).. someone said it took a few hours and I think, based on posts I noticed they were uploading relatively early during the process.

Rejected IS, just got the email

Rejected post-ii, OOS, 3.8+, 515+, ORM; Best of luck to those still in it!
Also Rejected by portal posting, OOS 515 3.9 but not from some fancy California school like everyone else at interview day. Also being 22 doesn’t help to be super competitive in the OOS crowd.

lmao calm down b
i was just wondering if you got an email too
An email told me to look at the portal, yes. If you haven’t got an email yet than you’re probably not rejected so stop being so anal.

To everyone rejected who plans to reapply, make sure to schedule a follow-up meeting with the folks at the admissions office. From talking with others, it sounds like they have great advice plus they emphasized that they really want you to talk to them before reapplying! Sorry to hear that tons of us got rejected today, but I hope you all get into other schools (at least this cycle) or have better luck next cycle!

Sorry to hear about the R’s
My portal has said it’s updating for a few hours now... so more decisions tomorrow it seems?

Rejected, OOS. All the best to everyone still waiting / accepted!

Rejected, IS, and was waitlisted last year. It must have been a bad interview. Good luck everyone. I got to go somewhere else now.

I was rooting for you my friend...you'll make a great doctor elsewhere =)
