2018-2019 Tulane University

Email received this afternoon, I am finally under review. Submitted 8/2

same, I was complete 7/20 and still no green check mark like wtf. Do they even go in order??

It seems like they're not because I was complete 8/1 and the person that posted before you got an under review when they completed on 8/2. I think there are more people before my completion date that haven't gone under review either. Not sure if they are screening which to look at, but there is no point in speculation I guess. Just have to wait and see, all I can do now.

Y’all. I’m gonna be honest, you shouldn’t put hope in Tulane or any other low-yield school. I know Tulane has a lot to offer, but sheer odds aren’t in your favor with 12,000 apps. As other schools have worked to increase their mcat medians, Tulane seems to have not, so they’re just gonna keep getting more and more apps as years go by.

If you get an interview, great. If not, there are other less low yield schools out there, some of which may actually serve you better.

I would add that if Tulane is a place that sounds right for you-whether because of New Orleans, the population seen here, or the types of pathology encountered on the wards, it is worth an application. As a member of the admissions committee here, I can say we actively look for students who will be a good fit. We look for students who, when are on wards at 5am, I would want to work with. Whether they have 99%ile test scores is less important. We look for students who will care for patients well, If you're really passionate about New Orleans, Tulane, patient care, and/or serving your community, it's worth applying because these are the types of applicants we actively seek and there aren't 12 thousand of them. If you're just clicking a box because your LizzyM falls in the range, sheer odds aren't in your favor because this is a much larger pool.

Best of luck and feel free to let me know if y'all have unanswered questions.

what is the post II acceptance rate? i was a bit suprised when I saw that only 600 out of 12000 were offered II which is about 5% while most schools are closer to 10%. Why so few II relatively?

Spot on. Fit must be of utmost importance with 12,000 apps

It's apparently around 60% with post-waitlist acceptance considered, but most people are still put on the waitlist after their interview. I don't think they could possibly interview and score more than 600 people in a given year.

there are quite a few schools that interview over 1000 applicants so over 600 is a possibility

Yeah, like Einstein, and almost all of them have very low acceptance rates for the interview.

Edit: I'd reckon they just pack more people in on the interview days.

yes but your original premise was that "I don't think they could interview more than 600 people in a given year" and I gave you counter examples that refuted your claim. naturally one would assume they put more people in each interview and have low acceptance rates in comparison to be able to do more interviews so that fact is irrelevent to your original statement regarding they could not interview more than 600 people. i am wondering is there a reason Tulane sticks to 600 rather than do the typical 10% and interview 1200 like other schools would do? a 5% interview rate is very low and uncommon for most medical schools

Don’t forget that Einstein also WL everyone and pulls from that. I’m sure that impacts their outright acceptance rates

I would say timing is a reason. There’s only so many dates you can have to interivew people on due to resources/people. Plus Tulane isn’t unique with its 600. Vcu and a few other schools also stick to around 600

Where did you get the information that "most people are still put on the waitlist after their interview."

When did you submit your primary? I got mine today and I was verified yesterday.
I was verified in early June. I just called and they said that they sent it early July. I never got it and check my spam/trash every day incase things like this happen. They resent it and I got it, but man I hope this doesn't affect my application 🙁

yikes dude...

Sorry, let me clarify. Has anyone who submitted their secondary in late July (25th and onwards) been given the green check mark recently? Just trying to get an idea of their progress with reviewing apps.
Submitted 7/27, got the green check last Thursday.

What are the odds of actually getting an interview from the “hold for interview” category?

Just got an email that said I was put on hold for an interview.

Can I get an F in the chat

+1 on hold! LM low mid 70s OOS ORM good luck everyone who got IIs!!!!! 🙂

So I guess I've just accepted that I'm never going to go under review here. Unless my file was so bad they didn't need to review me lol? But I have some other interviews, so I don't think my app is total garbage :/

What are your stats / when we’re you complete? If you don’t mind me asking. I was complete 7/28 and still havnt gone under review.

So I've been under review since the beginning of 8/2. I know they don't like to be contacted about things like this but does anyone else think this is a long time to be under review?

Just received my rejection email today, under review 8/2. Good luck to the rest of you who were placed on hold today!

So they send an email if you’re on hold? Does the portal change?
