2018-2019 Tulane University

I don't know about that. If it was really important and necessary then they would make it a requirement for every applicant. The fact that they recommend it but not require it just makes me think that it is just used for research/reporting purposes for the time-being.

N=1, I chose not to spend the extra 10 dollars to send my CASPer score to Tulane cause it wasn't required. If they do use it for admissions as an optional/supplemental component, then I would think that CASPer has a higher chance of hurting you (aka it being a weed-out factor) than it would of helping you. Just my thoughts.
I agree with you definitely... But at the same time I think if you do very well on the CASPer, you can also stand out. So, it depends.

Oh most definitely it depends!

I am sure that an excellent CASPer score will probably be beneficial for an application. BUT, and this is just me, I still question the test itself and its scoring methodology. Although I think I answered all the questions well and explained my position in depth, I still don't trust how they score me and how that score will be viewed. I'd rather not have another unknown factor in the review of my application.

Until I I get a II from a school that requires CASPer, I won’t send the score to schools that have it as optional.

That's a smart way to do it. Though be careful of assuming that an II means a favorable CASPer score. There are some schools that use CASPer only for the post-interview decisions (some openly state it and there might be others that don't mention this but still do it).

submitted 7/20, marked as complete 7/27 and still not under review??

We don't have enough information judge. No one really knows how schools will use CASPer.

So I chose to play it safe. I took the test on the earliest possible date (after doing a practice test), and sent it to every school that I planned to send a primary, no questions asked.

I am now sitting on interviews from three schools that required CASPer. I was put on hold at another school that required CAPSer.

Was it worth the $40 extra bucks? You bet. The peace of mind that I get from knowing that I have done everything in my power to satisfy their requirements is priceless.

Who knows? Maybe the fact that I turned in my CASPer so early signals to the schools that I am an applicant that follows directions and is easy to work with.

It's only $10/school, it's not like it's a huge expense anyway...your flights for interviews are gonna cost a whole lot more!

To me, not sending CASPer is just needlessly adding stress to yourself. If they ask for it, send it. Unless you have an acceptance, you're not really in the position to question what these schools want from you, or why they want it.

I haven’t received a II from a school that requires CASPer. For all I know, I could have failed it even though I think I did well. Not sending it to schools that don’t require it is a smart move IMO.

^I see your point. Everyone's experience in this application cycle is different, so we'll have different conclusions from similar events. N=1

Submitted 7/17 and still not under review! How does a school with such an early cycle not review apps in order?

Submitted 7/25, the portal has checks next to everything except for "in progress".......meh

I wonder if it’s because each app is forwarded to certain adcoms and depending on the adcom’s review pace, people with later submissions can still get looked

Really wish I knew how early this school was... I waited 5 days for my friend to review my secondary before I sent it in. Complete 7/21, not under review 🙁
Uhmm there's no reason to be sad. I highly doubt that 7/21 is late considering the fact that some people submitted later than this. Just trust your application.

I think everyone who has not been under review needs to take it easy. You will be reviewed. Just trust the process.

I think we cannot forget about our health and well-being during application season. If you're feeling stressed, watch a movie, hang out with friends, go on dates, do something. Life still goes on.

When you hear back from Tulane later this year, you will just realize you wasted a bunch of time. Forreal, forreal.

Best of luck friends!

"Under Review" since 7/26 (5 weeks...)

Holding out hope that I had some unlucky timing and my II is being sent out with the next batch ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Boola Boy @UnderRepresentedMajority

Lol I'm tempted to just abandon my philosophy and send my CASPer score to Tulane now. Just got an interview invite from a school that started requiring it this year.

Hmmm what fun little sides game for all of us this application year: figuring out how CASPer is playing a role in an increasing number of medical schools, and then how the new AAMC/AMCAS policy changes regarding disclosure of information to med schools will affect things for us as guinea pigs.
:corny:

Really confused how they are deciding who to review if its not chronological

I agree! It makes no sense to me as well. At this point, I have lost my optimism to even get reviewed by this school.

Finally under review, submitted August 1st

My guess is when you get to be reviewed depends on when the adcom assigned to your app gets around to doing it. I’m sure apps are sent to each adcom member for review but if one is super fast compared to others, they’ll get through their pile quicker thus people who submitted later might look like they’re gettin II before you

it would be so freakin typical if my app went to a reviewer that used to work at the dmv

Was it ever mentioned in this thread that there was an essay about study abroad experiences? RIP...

rejected via email. =( went under review on 7/18.

I have an II for 10/4 and was wondering if anyone else is going to be at Tulane that day. It would be nice to make a friend before the interview!

Went under review yesterday, submitted 7/28. It seems like the the time period between submission and review is dependent on individual reviewers; considering it’s been a bit random

Submitted 7/8, complete like 2 weeks ago, under review as of today. How quickly do we find out if accepted or rejected? Do people get rejected quickly? my MCAT score is low for the school, but everything else is fine 😵 Anyone else low mcat higher gpa ?

I do, I'm also under review

After submitting my primary a bit later than I expected, I just submitted my secondary today. By looks of this thread (20 PAGES!), it seems I am a bit late to the ball-game. Tulane is definitely one of my top choices. Best of luck to everyone.

You're in for the best waiting game haha
