Has anyone figured out how TUSOM will respond to the absence of the multiple acceptance report this year?

Lol I doubt anyone will have that specific information without being part of the admissions committee or knowing anyone on the committee (and wouldn't be surprised if some schools still didn't have a "plan" to deal with the situation lol).

But as far as anyone, especially the experienced members on this website, can tell for the general state of things: earlier cycle, less outright acceptances (especially early in the cycle), more waitlisting, more targeted interviewing/accepting (they have less of an idea regarding yield for applicants that have no clear ties to the school/state/region), to name a few.

Hey guys, for those who have already had an interview, are the interviews open or closed file for Tulane?

Quick tip for anyone who is preparing for an interview here. I was interviewed today and you definitely want to pay attention to every word they say and pay attention to details. Be sure to pay attention at the beginning. They will drop hint on how to get acceptances.

Placed on hold yesterday 9/5. complete 7/23, under review 8/21. probably means an eventual R but we'll see I suppose

+1 placed on hold 9/4 LizzyM ~64. Can't see myself having much chance here tbh, but I am grateful they gave me the benefit of the doubt and are still considering my application.

Interviewing in a week, anyone know if the standardized patient exercise is individual or as a group with other interviewees? Cant find any information on it

can you elaborate a little more by chance? you mean from you individual interviewer, from the tour, etc.?

I submitted on 7/24 (not under review yet) but everytime I check the portal, it shows a different date for when they received the letters, should I call or is this normal?

It’s hard to find info because they prohibit people from discussing its details.

Put on hold 9/5. Was under review 8/2. GPA 3.91 MCAT 510.

Has anyone not heard from homestay yet? I have an interview in a week and I have not been assigned a student host yet.

For those who got an interview recently (within the past week?), when was the earliest date to schedule one?

They make you sign an NDA so no one can talk about it

Unsure if anyone has asked this question yet: I have an Interview next week. I’m a guy and want to bring something to write with and put stuff in that we may receive on the interview. Is a backpack too informal? Should I bring like a portfolio zipper bag style or does it really matter? Sorry for the long question! Just want to look as professional and prepared as possible.

Does under their 10% mean they haven't taken any students below that for that given year? Or no?

The 10th percentile score means that 10 percent of matriculants had scores either less than or equal to that score. So for the Tulane class entering in 2017, 19 people had scores equal to or less than 506.

Not necessary. They give you a folder at the interview. Just have a pen in your pocket

Do y'all think it's worth it to submit my secondary in the next week or so?

Thanks for the reply! When did they tell you they were scheduling you?

How is everyone preparing for the "standardized patient" experience?

Is it really the same thing? What’re you even supposed to do? Just introduce yourself? Do a physical?

The way I'm picturing it;

You have a person, either someone acting as longstanding patient or maybe it's an EM or urgent care scenario, and you gather a history from the patient. You ask what brings them in, ask about the specifics of their symptoms, take note of what symptoms are missing, and then go on to ask them about their entire medical history and what medications they may take on a daily basis. Just trying to build a clinical picture.

I can't imagine they'll have people do a physical. Though maybe you could say, "Ok now I will perform a physical, I press on their abdomen, what transpires?" and the interviewer could prompt you with a result. This is all my speculation, there could be specific rules and guidelines.

I work in an ER and often do take histories and present to the doctors I work with. That's kind of how I've prepared.

Lol so we're supposed to act like physicians before we got the training? Guess I gotta learn how to take a history then. The website just says "The interviewee will also participate in a "standardized patient" exercise in which they will play the role of a first year medical student interviewing a patient. "

Yea I suppose everyone has such different levels of exposure at this point. I highly doubt you can get significantly penalized if you don't know how to take a formal history. They're probably just observing how you interact on a personal level with a stranger. I think the fact that there is the medical backdrop is mote. It very well could have been a different prompt and the evaluation would be the same.

True. Then again there's only so many ways to interpret " interviewing a standardized patient like a 1st year med student' that doesn't turn out to be taking a history. What other options are there? Plus I wonder if we would do it in a group or alone

Nothing. I think all you can really do is to be aware it's a thing that will happen. I have a lot of prior clinical experience so I'll treat it like any other patient interaction. They'll most likely give us more details during the interview.
