Do we have to pay the deposit to access financial aid info?
Do they accept updates? And if so, where do I send it to?
Thanks!
When were you complete?II today, MD and MD/MPH
Current MS1 in the MD class. I had the choice between both MD and MD/MPH and can give insight on that or any other question you may have. Just shoot me a message
Unrelated but could you explain the grading system at UM? I heard it might change but could you explain how it works now? Thanks!
MSAR says August 8thWould anyone happen to know when classes begin in Fall? Planning on doing a big trip out of the country before.
Edit to this post: Found the academic calender for 2019-2020.Would anyone happen to know when classes begin in Fall? Planning on doing a big trip out of the country before.
Just got notified in the mail I have been awarded a huge scholarship!!!!
Email or snail mail? If you dont mind me asking, how substantial?Just got notified in the mail I have been awarded a huge scholarship!!!!
A lot of my classmates do not seem to completely understand it to be honest.
The transcript names each course you take the numerical grade you get (%), and "P" or "F" (pass/fail).
Like almost all medical schools, the school will do an internal rank to place you into a quartile for your MSPE (Dean's Letter) and your rank can be used for honors such as AOA.
Rationally, the percentage your grade is does not matter too much since there is not much standardization (in terms of residencies applications) among schools. As I said, the internal ranking is common to most medical schools (although many will not come out and say it).
The grading system can be irritating though. Just because of the personalities of people that tend to get into to medical school - if you understanding me.
It is rewarding when you do well and stressful when you are not happy with your grade. I've heard stories of upperclassmen that claim they do not even bother checking their grades, since they will be notified if they do not pass.
@Spider2YBanana
3rd year here just adding on to the above post. After a while, you do stop checking - especially during the clinical years where you have a thousand things going on. It really doesn't matter the specific numerical value so long as you passed. What matters more is how those values translate to quartile/class ranking but that's true for the vast majority of schools.
Unpopular opinion: There's honestly no point in checking grades altogether because there's nothing you can do about how other people perform. Do the best that you can in everything you do and where you fall, is just where you fall.

Have you already paid the $100 deposit? Just wondering if you need to pay your deposit before you can be considered for financial aid.Snail Mail. No email whatsoever. It covers about 75% tuition.

Honestly, if I felt like I did well, then I would want to check because it'll satisfy me. If I feel like I didn't do so well, I would want to check to relieve my anxiety and know that I passed.
I can't think of a situation in which I wouldn't check. Especially since I spend the majority of my life now studying for a test it seems like.
Dang do you live close??? That’s fast for snail mailI have not paid the deposit yet and I submitted the scholarship application Wednesday 2/13 and the award letter was mailed 2/15 so I believe it was the merit scholarship one is automatically considered for that I received

There's a scholarship application? Also got the letter too. Have you already submitted the scholarship application?
Almost every mon + fri in March! How many dates available?
That's fair. Definitely not saying you shouldn't but after preclinicals things become a bit more arbitrary lol
Also got a scholarship paper - are we thinking this is merit only and not need based?
For people who have gotten scholarship letters: if you don't mind me asking, approximately when were you accepted and what is your LizzyM?
Are clinicals not truly graded P/F with no grade anyway? I thought they said that at interview day.
No, you still get a numerical value. But again, they're overhauling the entire curriculum and there have even been major changes in middle of this year alone in terms of elective requirements/free time off so I'm not sure what they're telling the interviewees.
