2019-2020 Albany

Guys, I just called them and they stated they had sent my secondary long time ago but I got nothing. They told me they had resent me another email in the morning but still nothing now. there must be some technical issue with the system

I’ve had an II on the portal for almost a week and still no email, hope it’s not a joke because my flight was $$$$
Schools who do this are incredibly frustrating.

The worst is Loyola. No email, and I just happened to check by chance. While I'm happy and fortunate to receive an interview, they only give applicants ONE WEEK to respond. Like, does it hurt to just send out a "Hey, btw, congrats on the interview!" automated email? It's not so much the no email thing that bothers me as much as the combination with a short response period smh.

How are you all answering the "If your school has a Premedical Advisory Committee but you are not using that service,
please indicate why" question? Not really sure why it's asking this and I really don't have a clue how to answer, I always just assumed using 2 science professor, 1 non science professor and then optional job/volunteering/etc letters were the traditional way most people submitted letter of rec? I don't even know what a premed advisory committee is haha i barely used advisors in undergrad. Thanks in advance

Well did your school have a prehealth committee in the first place?

Wow, only 1 interview date left on the portal and can't do that date.
Any chance they'll open up more slots before the deadline to pick a date?

Y’all I am worried about this MMI. Am I going to have to role play? How many of these stations are going to be curveballs? I’m high key freaking out, not going to lie.

Yeah. It starts out with role-play then a rapid transition into BDSM.

On a serious note:
Albany Medical College Interview Feedback
What did you wish you had known ahead of time?
"MMI's are pretty chill. This was my first interview and definitely over-stressed"
"I wish I had known that some of my interviewers would have been current students. This may have released some of my pre-MMI anxiety."

"MMI format with 8 stations to rotate through. 2 minutes to prepare with prompt, 8 minutes in room with interviewer."

Any general MMI prep should help you be adequately prepared. Just make sure you know your AMCAS and secondary apps front to back. But thats advice for any interview ever

If anyone wants to fill this out, I'd be forever indebted 🙂
I’ve been updating it faithfully.

Maybe this is a very dumb question but how are people getting interviews already for this school when the MSAR for Albany says they don't start reviewing applicants until September 1st?

Wait...how is there only 1 date left? Or am I interpreting this wrong? It just gave me a little flash of anxiety seeing that.

I have another question about the secondary. Fall of my sophomore year I W'd 2 our of my 4 classes because I was having academic difficulties and wasn't doing well. I brought up my grades after that, and since I was taking two classes, I wouldn't call it interrupted. For the prompt that asks about " inconsistencies" , need I mention it? I'm also assuming it doesn't count as interrupted attendance. Thanks again.

That's what I thought. Like People complete July---> Aug interivew dates. People complete by labor day--> Oct/Nov interview dates People complete by Oct--> Dec interview dates.

But this isn't actually the last interview slot, thank God. I mean I knew it wasn't but still. Felt really tense there for a sec, my advisor did say being complete by labor day isn't early and that mid-Sept isn't on time, and for a sec I thought she was right.

Anyone has trouble in receiving the secondary? I was told mine had been out ten days ago and they told me they resent it last friday. So far I still got nothing and I feel its been pretty late now

Hey, about your second question - I think it depends on how it looks relative to the rest of your transcript. If you have all As/Bs everywhere else and no other Ws, then I would consider maybe mentioning it with an emphasis on how you grew from that experience and how you improved. And I don't think it counts as interrupted attendance, which I think would be more like you had to take a leave of absence or something like that.

I heard some schools just take a while to hand out secondaries. Remember- labor day is early, Mid Sept is still on time. If just one program is after labor day its okay.

****. I was done with all the essays, LORs etc a few weeks ago but didn't realize I needed to hit complete. I thought it was just processing the day of. RIP being early.

Just wanted to reiterate:

For those who are taking a gap year BUT still working, you answered "No" to this question, correct?

"Has your college or university, graduate or professional school attendance been interrupted for any reason? If yes, please explain. Also, please explain any extended gaps in activity/employment in your post-graduate history?"

I answered yes and gave a brief description of what I’m doing with my gap year but I may have misinterpreted the question.

Right. there's no gap in activity bc you graduated but are still working.
For me I'm taking a "partial" gap year, taking two classes in the fall ( 4 creds each, 8 creds total). And I'm hopefully starting scribe-ing ( I'll have my interview soon) soon, and will continue volunteering in the interim.
Edit: Its still early in the cycle, even if you just became complete you are early. Mid sept is on time, oct is when you become late.

I started work right after I graduated in may and I put a description of my gap year job. I may have interpreted it incorrectly but it was so confusing and everyone on here was arguing about it (lol) so I figured stating that I was employed couldn't be a bad thing. I got an interview from here so it doesn't kill your chances either way.

Secondary Submitted 8/20/19

Verified 7/26 and no secondary yet. Is it time to email admissions? I hate to be annoying but it's almost been a month

Is Albany's selection mainly about "academic/professional" achievement? Their secondary questions do not address community service, clinical experience, or personal struggles. In fact, if you have inconsistencies or had failed cycle application, their more interested in hearing your justification.

  • If you have previously applied to medical school, but were unsuccessful, what do you believe are the major reasons for not being accepted and what have you done since to overcome these concerns?
  • Please explain any inconsistencies in your university, graduate, or professional school academic performance and/or MCAT scores.
  • Has your college or university, graduate or professional school attendance been interrupted for any reason? If yes, please explain. Also, please explain any extended gaps in activity/employment in your post-graduate history.
  • Tell us one thing about yourself that would help the Admissions Committee determine if you should be admitted to our program.

You have to push Albany to do things lol. I couldn't hit the complete button for 3 weeks because they hadn't downloaded my letter of rec that had been submitted right as my primary was verified. They downloaded it a couple hours after I e-mailed them about it lol.

They just want to know who you are and they want you to justify your mistakes and that's it. Service be damned.

I did Netter's right after this and was like " Woah they actually want me to talk about my volunteer experiences.)

The secondary prompts are pretty open ended, so feel free to incorporate any/all of those things into your responses.
