2019-2020 Colorado

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Looks like the admissions tracker recently updated...514 interviews already. Looks like Colorado is almost done w/ interviews. Any ISers waiting to hear back? I think I'm ready to take the L at this point.
What is the admissions tracker?

on the admissions page it's toward the bottom right of the screen! if you google admissions tracker colorado, should be the first link
I wonder if there’s that big of a drop off between primaries and secondaries at most medical schools. Over 3000 less secondaries seems like a large amount to me.

IIRC Colorado doesn't extend a secondary to everyone. It's also worth noting that last cycle CU received 8,666 total applications versus the 10,400 they received this time around

They talked about this on interview day. They don’t extend secondaries to everyone.

Has anyone asked the school about how the new curriculum will affect our clinical rotations? The class of 2024 will be the first with the accelerated 1 preclinical year curriculum. I'm concerned about overlapping clinical rotations with the c/o2023 as described in the video below. They probably have a plan in place but I don't think I remember it ever being explained? I can't even find anything about what our c/o2024 curriculum is going to look like other than its a mashup of the old and new.

starting at 52 minutes here he talks about the overlap

Looks like last year they didn't know what aspects of the new curriculum they were going to phase in for us in the class 2024 since we are the bridge year (aka the guinea pig year).

First off, on the interview day they said that the new curriculum will be 18 months, not 1 year. I don’t remember them mentioning anything about how they will handle the overlap for clinical rotations, but I imagine that the transition toward LICs (I believe they said about 1/2 of our class will be doing LIC) will at least partially mitigate the overlap problem. Just speculation though!

Did you watch the video? I used their own words wrt to the clinical overlap. I'm just concerned that none of this was communicated to us.

Yeah, I did watch the video. I found it really confusing haha. My interpretation is that “rolling out” different pieces of the curriculum at a time means that we will have the 18 month preclinical and the classes after us will have 1 year preclinical, and then this will mean only a few weeks of overlap with the class above us? I could definitely be wrong though. The website does not have clear information. I do have very detailed notes from the interview day, clearly stating that our class will have 18 month preclinical. So if that isn’t true, then they were blatantly lying to us, which I (hope) isn’t true.

i am one pre-req shy. any hope for II at this point?

Right, I mean it's probably 18month based on the predicted 26week overlap period as described in the video. I sure would like to hear what they're doing to alleviate that overlap before I commit to going hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Also, we are getting a mixture of other aspects of the new curriculum and I'd like to know what our curriculum is actually going to look like before signing up for it, personally. The danger of overlapping clinical classes is only with the class of 2024 and the class of 2023, next years class is switching entirely to LIC as far as I know, though I'm not sure if theirs will be only 1 year. In that case, our class gets the short end and has overlap with c/o 2025 and c/o 2023.

There is also the Ft Collins branch opening next year which they might be planning to alleviate some of that stress with...but again, there is precious little information out there right now.

I think when he mentions the 26 week overlap, he means that that is what would happen IF they switched directly to a 1 year preclinical without phasing a year or two of 18-month preclinical classes in between. So with the phase in (our class) we will only have a couple weeks of overlap. Again though, I could be wrong. That’s just my interpretation. I agree with you that it is unclear and I wish we had clear information on this, especially for those considering paying OOS tuition (this is my IS school, so curriculum is factoring into my decision slightly less).

You're interpreting it in the most charitable light possible, I just don't see the evidence here to be assuaged. In the vid he says there are ways to mitigate the impact: but what are those, what is the actual impact? You say only a couple of weeks, but what is your evidence for that?

The 6 month overlap is easy to see. May 2021 is when c/o2023 starts clerkships and phase III for c/o2023 continues until Jun 1st 2022. Jan 2022 is when c/o2024 starts. The 6 month overlap is January 2022->June 2022. My guess is that some of this is probably going to be offset by existing and new LIC programs, but there is still probably some overlap. I'm not too worried about anything at this point, just wondering. The clinical sites at CU are amazing.

Thanks for letting us know. Any idea how much $ each of those 3 scholarship categories can award? Are IS students prioritized?
I want to say that I’ve read somewhere that scholarships can be anywhere from $1k-$10k, with the majority being in the $1k-$5k range. As for IS/OOS it would stand to reason that they would prioritize IS, but i actually haven’t found much evidence to support that. In fact, the few people i found on here from past years who acknowledged receiving a scholarship were OOS

Anyone who recently got interviews how many dates were left!?
Reallly hoping to still hear from Colorado

The only ones available to me on the calendar today were 2 dates in February. But I don't think that definitely means those are the only two left! They could possibly open some in March, but not sure.

Acceptance call today.
1º: 08/02
2º: 10/22
II: 12/04
Interview: 01/10
OOS, URM, LM 66.9

For those accepted today, have you recieved an email or found a change in the portal?

Congrats! That is a truly wild turn around time. Did they happen to mention why they made your decision so quickly, since the process usually does take the full 6-8 weeks?

I was told that we could expect an email/portal change in a few days, but TBH, most of the details of that conversation are a blur now so I may not be the most reliable source of info.

congrats!

Damn tho, that was so quick, <2 weeks!

Thank you, I agree that the turn around was quick. That is why I am asking if anyone got an email/portal update because I feel like I need proof, or that it may have been a mistake. It was also a blur for me, but the caller did say they would send an email, but I didn't ask when.

I was also a 1/10 interview and got no email/portal change. I also remember that at the interview they said specifically 4-6 weeks was around when we would hear. But I'm not complaining

Also accepted via phone call... Completely stunned, since I was sure I was the worst group interviewee of all time... wow.

Also, I hope lots of y’all from 12.13 are accepted, too, because the applicants I spent the day with were absolute GEMS.
Nope, I was the worst group interviewee of all time.. proof is I don't have an A yet 🙁

I agree all you 12.13 people were the bomb.

It was 2-3 days before I received the email... I'd started worrying it was a mistake too. lol

There is still plenty of time. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! (It sounds like not a ton of people heard from them yesterday, so I imagine plenty of folks from our date will hear good news in the future.)

Typically acceptance phone calls happen a few days before portal updates. A couple of days after that the portal updates with the A/WL/R decisions.
