Does anyone know the best airport to fly in from and recommendations on hotels?

So some travel advice for everyones interviews.

Yes OMA is the closest airport. idk where else you'd even fly in.... Its about 5-10 minutes from downtown and campus. Uber will likely run you 10-15 bucks from the airport to a downtown location/ from a downtown location to the school.

There are a lot of hotels downtown for that, just choose your price point. Theres a local hotel called Hotel Deco which I have had family stay at and is nice, downtown location. Otherwise theres a ton of name brand hotels downtown/ around downtown (Hilton, Courtyard, Doubletree). I'd advise staying around downtown because then you can walk around and see what its like. Many med students elect to live by downtown because Creighton's campus is so darn close and because its where alot of local bars/restaurants are.

We have historically had a M0 (interviewee) hosting program where you can pay to stay with a med student who is supposed to pick you up from airport, drive you to and from interview, and drop you off at the airport. I imagine we'd have this again, but I'm also not in charge of this program so I can't say for 100% yet. You will stay at their place, often on a couch/ blow-up mattress. Obviously you won't be living in luxury, but it can be nice for asking questions/gaining insight about the school and it is a very cheap option. I dont know what the price of the program would be but I believe it was like $40-50 a night last year, so if your just staying 1 or 2 nights, you'll probably pay half the amount in lodging compared to a downtown hotel and avoid the uber fees.

If you decide to go the hotel route, I've always had awesome luck with hotwire

did you guys do your standard diversity essay for the second prompt, or did you kinda have to write a new, service based one for this essay? My diversity essay is about culture, would that still work?

Answer the question. Culture/diversity isn't always about service however diversity/cultural experiences can certainly inspire/inform/enable you to pursue service and offer a unique contribution to our service community at Creighton.

No I had a separate service essay that I used for a few schools

What should be in these service essays tho besides your service? Like what should the overall message be? Should it be "here, look at all the service I have done", or is there a different theme?

I signed up for this yesterday. It’s $50 per night and they do drive you to and from the airport and to and from the interview.

So mine is a combination of service and diversity. I don’t think that will work for everyone, but it answered the question in my case. I talked about unique service I have done and how it has shaped me.

Personal opinion, but Essays are more about the quality vs quantity of experience. talk about how your service has impacted you, what have you learned, how has it helped you grow, etc.

Still waiting for my CASPer results to come in. I feel so behind. 2° submitted weeks ago. Hopefully it isn’t too late for this opportunity.

I definitely don't think it's too late! Creighton seems to review apps really quickly since I got an II on Monday and I submitted on 07/27

Thank you! That is certainly reassuring. I would LOVE to attend Creighton. I also spoke with the director of admissions and he made me feel quite hopeful as well. Here’s to the waiting game!

Is CASPer required for Creighton? I don't see that on their website or application! 😳
Ugh.. no. You’re right. I read the wrong line of my spreadsheet. Just went and checked my app status and it says review of the secondary takes 3-4 weeks. Thank you for that. Reduced panicking now!

Does anyone know if the MD/Ph.D. interviews happen separately from the MD interviews? Or is the timeline the same?

Just got an email that my app wasn't complete, with the reason being that I either hadn't submitted the payment or my LOR did not meet requirements. Signed into the portal and my payment had gone through and my LOR was checked off as approved. It also said I was complete and under review. Anyone else have this happen?

No, I haven’t. But I have had to call the admissions office. The first lady I spoke with was a little rude tbh, but then she transferred me to the director of admissions and he was a very nice man that answered all my questions and chatted about the school some. If you give them a call or send an email, I’m sure they’ll be more than willing to fix it for you. I’m just going on 4 weeks since submitting my secondary and still haven’t heard anything. I’m getting nervous!

Hang in there. It’s going to be a long process. But you’ve got this!

@McNerdy Could you share any insight you have on research opportunities at Creighton? I know that they have great research going on with their staff, but on the website I primarily see the student research opportunities listed at offsite centers. I'd just like to know how easy it is for students to get involved with different projects there. Thanks!
PM me if you have any questions on creighton research

Just submitted Creighton’s secondary a few days ago but received no complete/confirmation email. Do they typically send it after a few days?

I never got a complete email and I got an interview. Submitted on 07/27, interview invite received on 08/05

Damn that’s a fast turnaround. When are interview dates?

The dates available for me were 08/23, 09/06, 09/13, 09/14. 09/14 was the only date that worked for me. Hoping it won't put me at a disadvantage, but if anyone else is interviewing then and wants to do mock interviews on the 13th, I'll be in Omaha then!

September is still super early! I'm sure it's no disadvantage. I will be interviewing on the 14th as well. I'm staying with some med students on the 13th, but I don't get in till fairly late

Submitted 7/12/19. I was so excited to submit that I made a mistake!!

"I will bring patience and kindness to those with I interact with at Creighton." - game over I guess!
Seriously though, I know making a mistake is bad, but this is my top choice school. Is it really gonna keep me out? I'm kicking myself!

Also just an FYI because I look as soon as I submit, the first recorded II was on August 9th last year.

I got accepted here and had a few typos. As long as its isolated mistakes vs a completely crap and unreadable essay i think youll be fine. It shouldn't be the sole factor precluding you from interviewing.

Still radio silence. Going on week 5 since submission of secondary:nailbiting:

Just roll with the process my friend.
For you and everyone, application cycle just started. Interviews go into March. Welcome to the waiting game. Time since your application really means nothing, although that doesn't help calm the classic med school application neuroticism. Trust me it was PAINFUL watching other people announced med school invites and me not get them, but just gotta be patient and confident in yourself.

Just for some perspective, each med school was likely bombarded with 5000+ secondary applications. Some med schools like GW and Drexel get over 10k. Think about how long it actually takes to review those applicants and then decide who to invite. Even if you invite 1500 of the 5000+ how do you decide what 30% of your application pool to invite? This is especially difficult when you consider that probably 99% all of the students applying are qualified to enter med school. Food for thought

You’re exactly right! A little perspective always helps. It is still painful to play the game lol. But yes, we are in it for the long haul!

Those you that interviewed on the 23rd @Lovely Penguin @loz1988 @T1SolRing how was it?
It was super chill, started with presentations and only two 30 minute interviews after, then lunch and tours. The interviews basically were just to get to know you a little bit and there were no tough questions, mainly asking about your attributes and stuff you do.

+1 to all of the above! Definitely know your primary/secondary when it comes to the questions, be yo self and then enjoy a dope lunch/tour. Creighton lowkey the goat for doing the tour *after* the interviews so we weren't all sweaty lol @Cornfed101

People always say this, but I have to admit I don't know what it means. Do people really not know what they put for experiences or something? Or is it more specific like "on page 7, line 2, what was the 3rd letter?"

No, I am sure you don’t need to know those specific nuances. No one is going to ask you that. But you should know really well what you wrote on your primary and secondary app so when they ask, you know exactly what to say and can elaborate further. What I do is have a good story for each activity I have done so when an interviewer asks about a specific activity, I will have something meaningful to say. You dont want to regurgitate whats on your apps

Sorry, my nuance comment was sarcastic, but your response answered my question. Thanks!

Haha, I thought there was something odd there with what you wrote but my sarcasm detector was off. It’s turned on now lol

@McNerdy are there many people with families attending Creighton? I was looking at the COA loan limits and they don’t give you a lot

I know it’s “based on” a single student COL, but other schools are definitely more generous in that regard

Excited to interview this Saturday! Any idea what % get accepted out of the interviewed candidates? I hate how MSAR only has matriculated %

I know the typical number is 2-2.5x the number of matriculated, but if someone that already interviewed was given an actual number that would be great!
