2019-2020 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anybody with MD/phd IIs. I know Drexel considers our application for Md and Md phd simultaneously. Do they hand out acceptances simulteneously. Planning to write an email later today.

IIRC (I interviewed on 9/11), they said they meet every month and release decisions on a monthly basis, starting in mid-October!

The status page of the portal lists the dates that interviewed applicants can expect to hear a decision on/around:
October 21, 2019
November 25, 2019
December 23, 2019
January 21, 2020
February 24, 2020
March 23, 2020
April 20, 2020

It also says decisions are sent by email. iirc from last year's thread, people were getting phone calls. I hope there are no phone calls this year since I get too many spam calls to have to worry about answering one of them.

If it helps, the call would be from a 215 number (and more than likely a 215-991 number)

I havent related to anything on this page more.

Sorry for a noob question, but is this information something that's posted across the board? Since I haven't heard anything yet, I'm kinda nervous about any changes/updates.

You can go and check! Should be on your portal on the status tab

Oh yeah sorry! To clarify, I do have this on my portal. I was just wondering if it's the same for everyone, including those who haven't heard back yet.
N =1 as I can’t comment on this year having interviewed. But last year I got rejected pre -II AND I could see a similar status.

Aww dang. Thanks for answering! Whether it's a pre-II R or not, it's still reassuring to know what's up. I'll just go back to waiting patiently. :')

Not sure I ever posted one of these so...
Drexel
proscons
18 month preclinicalin house exams that are supposedly NBME like but I'm not sure how similar to step they are
flipped classroom (pro or con?)lost Hahnemann and don't have any fantastic academic medical centers anymore (hard to get letters from Chairs of departments if they don't have that) and no home residency programs anymore. You're going to spread out throughout PA for clerkships
location is close enough to Philly to have stuff to dono google drive with information like a lot of other schools have
P/F preclinical curriculumAnatomy lab is dungeon-like in the basement. Other facilities at medical school are eh
the large class size that's broken into houses so you get time to meet people which is nice but the huge class size could be a conYou're "given" (aka pay for) and Ipad to take exams on and honestly, I think a PC or MacBook would be better but this could be a pro if you already have a PC/MacBook
they claim to not rank students but you're ranked in the MSPE with adjectives (which is apparently about as bad as being ranked in quartiles since the adjectives mean certain things)
things seem up in the air with Hahnemann closed - they're opening a campus in Reading (for all 4 years after saying they weren't? edit: This could be a miscommunication but the lack of transparency scares me) Other people in academic medicine in the area are worried about the future and have warned me not to go there (alumni, a faculty member who teaches there, an md/phd at another Philly school)
students don't seem v happy and when asked why they went there they said it was the only school they got into (which is also fair bc 50% of matriculants only get into one school but I've yet to meet someone that chose Drexel over another MD school)
tuition is high (close to 60k) and housing isn't cheap, esp if you decide to live in center city

I have noticed that many schools have this House thing. It seems super nice to have a really small community to get close to within the larger class even at a school that is not necessarily as large as Drexel.

Who denied they werent opening a branch campus at Reading? Ive been hearing about this for years.

I think lots of schools have a house or college system, but how important it is (eg how much students buy into it, the role in plays in social/academic life) seems to vary a lot.

Not sure everyone will agree with these cons... I enjoyed interviewing here and didn’t think the anatomy lab was terrible. The Hahneman closure is also exaggerated, they were closing for a while. There’s plenty of quality rotation sites throughout the state available to Drexel students. Student happiness is also debate-able, the students I talked to liked the school. Seems like everyone should make their own decisions if they like the school (at least it’s a reputable medical school!).

absolutely - these are just my personal pros and cons that I figured I'd share!

A lot of people said HUH sucked as a rotation site anyway

Yep, I hear reading hospital is significantly better; at least according to my interviewer who may be biased
I have heard that reading is an incredible hospital. I have a friend who is a nurse there and says it’s the best hospital she’s ever seen.

It is. The hospital is enormous and has so many opportunities.

II earlier this afternoon! OOS, complete on 7.9.19. Frankly, I'm shocked but thrilled!

And to all of you wondering whether it is indeed worth it to compulsively check your phone for IIs during the middle of a lab meeting, I bring you glad tidings.
Congrats! mind sharing your stats?

Oh I see that now. But there’s no guarantee that early interviewees will definitely hear on October 21 because it says applications can be considered at any decision meeting
That’s why I said on or around the 21st my guy!!!
And @Talldoctor96 called and they said around the 3rd week of October (not early November like last year!)
